Pre-Season Friendlies

Dave wrote: 01 Aug 2023, 16:42 This is an open forum, we shouldn't never find ourselves in a situation where by members are being advised to shut up and go away, and I mean never. We all all have the right to either ignore expressed opinions or counter them with your own argument, if you have to resort to 'put downs' always a sure fire way of telling the members concerned don't have an argument of their own.

In my own opinion, TUFC has reached a crossroads in it's history, not sure this has sunk in with some yet, TUFC may have one chance, one season to repair the unnecessary damage done by last seasons totally avoidable relegation, failure to make an instant return to the NLP, could see competing in tier 5 in the future become a pipe dream, and thoughts of ever returning to the EFL done for good.

It's thanks to a number of people at our club on and off the field stealing wage, for 18 months or more, of course there is time for all of them to turn the tide in their favour, and get every fan, every member of this forum back on side, but there is no more room for mistakes, miss judgment, what ever you want to call it, we as a club have to nail it, first time every time during the forth coming season.

Right to get this thread back on topic during the final hours before the new season starts for real . I went to the Plymouth and Southampton P.S.F'S and whilst we will all agree there's been some encouraging signs during pre-season, it's also highlighted a few things for me, the club does have some players who are a cut above this level in Jarvis, Ash, Collins, Stobbs, Lapslie etc, but our squad as a whole looks to weak to sustain a title challenge through out the entire season, so can see us having a strong team through out, if injuries can be avoided, and suspensions kept to a minimum.

Also highlighted for me, the club may have wasted a huge wedge of budget on Hall, never doubting his service to our club and football, but he simply doesn't have the legs or mobility for a full season, there are games where we'll get away with it, there will be games where the team will not, can only hope GJ picks and choses the times play him.
Well said, game management is crucial. The Dad’s Army brigade need to be rested for the Astro games.
Hall is a worry and with Dawson out the thought of Hanson and McGavin stepping in is a huge concern .
Neither have cut it in the NL , so let’s see if they can perform at this level of football.

It has to be us or Yeovil, the games we face each other will be massive. Hoping that this time around we can get the upper hand . And Big Frank does not come back to haunt us.
Injuries and game management will be crucial

Pre-Season Friendlies

Southampton Gull wrote: 01 Aug 2023, 05:40 You're in a minority, most fans realise last season has gone and are looking forward to the one that's coming. You're still spitting your dummy out while sucking on your Farleys rusk.

I couldn't give a toss whether you go to games or not unlike you using games attended as some yardstick to judge whether someone is a fan or not. In my experience the most genuine and supportive fans are those that live far far away from Plainmoor and the serial moaners are usually on the doorstep, like yourself. Throwing stones? You couldn't throw your lunch......
Looking forward 🤔 good luck to those that are and nobody will deprive anybody of that.
It is sure to be an interesting season for sure.
I hope you are not going to make any predictions as you did last.
Also I don’t consider Exmouth to be on the doorstep
And this forum is about opinions which as fans we are all entitled to. People do not have to agree or make any comment.
Thrown a few stones over the years but never heard of anybody throwing lunch …..maybe a Hants thrill at midday I guess. COYY

Pre-Season Friendlies

Southampton Gull wrote: 31 Jul 2023, 21:14 Polite response, you could lay that at poor management, poor recruitment, poor defensive coaching or even poor backing of the manager through the playing budget. There's only one person getting lambasted and unfairly ridiculed on a daily basis while his distractors belittle his achievements and standing in the game.
Johnson knows how a huge majority feel, he heard it himself at the supporters evening.
I am sure you are aware. We all know you are pro Gj and I respect that, or are you his agent and working with Osborne and Edwards

Still on Mr Sg I voice my opinion which I am entitled to. Yes I watch games , and I dont throw my stones at 2 am, I will be attending games, and the ones I choose will be my choice. As long this is a platform for opinion I will voice my views.
It is not all one sided and that I respect.

Soo many here think we are going to walk this Mickey Mouse League, anything short of a 0-4 away win will be considered a failure I guess :-D

culmstockgull wrote: 31 Jul 2023, 09:29 It would seem from some views that after one season Johnson turned Randell into a championship player, absolute rubbish, he was class before we ever got our hands on him, all we gave him was mens football for a season, lets remember who came with him the left back Law, how did he turn out after receiving Johnsons wonderous coaching, a number of names are touted as successes for Johnson, and I agree many have gone on to bigger and better things, but most had one thing in common, they were good when they arrived having been coached properly by their clubs., balance those successes against the likes of Kerr, lolos, Andrews,Crowe, Hanson, Marshall, tomlinson and the list could go on, at best he succeeds as much as he fails, which for bigger clubs is acceptable, at our level where money is tight not so good.
Short memories some of the comedians on here.....I forgot about Andrews, what a total waste of space, he spent more time either on his arse or injured, another huge Johnson success story
Some will be saying Gj got Ali Omar to the Champions League next :scarf:

Mr Tea808 wrote: 30 Jul 2023, 19:02 I can't speak for other fans posting on here, but I can't think of one youngster on our books (TUFC being his ONLY club), GJ has got hold of him, worked with him, progressed and elevated him to new heights, and he's gone in to become a good regular player??.I know of someone linked to SD College, and he's told me a few things about GJ and his total lack of faith in our youngsters, he's basically binned them off, has zero intention of getting any youth scheme off the ground, and wants to go out and sign a load of cobblers like his Marquee signings, oh hang on, they weren't really, but they were going to become marquee signings, he must have nuts the size of cantaloupes for us to believe his nonsense...
36 minutes from your posting Mr Tea808 and nobody can name one as yet. Says it all . Many here have opinions and might have watched us over the years, but many have not witnessed the shambles on a weekly basis as we did last season… they watch from afar

Southampton Gull wrote: 30 Jul 2023, 18:33 Precisely. Some just simply refuse to give GJ any credit at all which negates any opinions they constantly share. I'm sure Plymouth are extremely grateful for the time he spent learning his trade under the guidance of a manager they trusted with one of their valuable assets.
I wonder if your opinion of Messiah Johnson can work a miracle with the dross he signed last season in the likes of namely Hanson, McGavin, Marshall and Crowe all four who thanks to his recruitment have ballsed up this years budget

Southampton Gull wrote: 30 Jul 2023, 15:26 Covolan, Mcdonald, Cameron, Nemane, CLE, Randell, Sherring, Lewis blah blah blah. You could add Wynter and Little so I'd say quite a few developed well under his management. Fickle fans with short memories.
Randell now that is hilarious, do you honestly think Plymouthhave not brought him on to the player he is today.
Amazed you have not mentioned Lawrence as Johnson played such a huge part in his progress 🤣🤣
Saints had nothing to do with his development …all down to Downes and Johnson.
The rest judge for yourself with those rose tinted 😎 on.

Not good enough, as has been said so many times.
An experienced manager should have won us the league that season not ended in the play off lottery 🤷‍♂️
He failed us when the league should have been won.
And here we are now. Short memories by soo many.
Let’s blame the referee ?
No blame Johnson who did not strengthen and see us over the line as an experienced manager should have done…again my opinion 🤔
