Torquay United v Southend United Sat 18 Sept KO 3pm

As there`s no separate thread for Tony Scott I`ll comment here. Very sad to learn of his passing. I saw him play many times in the late 60`s in what for me will always be the "golden" era. He was exciting to watch, able to glide past opponents and his cross with the outside of his boot was a thing of beauty.

Expectations

I don`t know what to expect. Other sides will have strengthened so we`ll have a better indication after maybe 6 league games. I`ve certainly liked what I`ve watched and read so far. I do believe that overall this squad even better. We look sound defensively, we`ve got creativity and pace to burn in the middle of the park and out wide; midfielders that can hit the target from distance and in Danny and Dan we`ve greater firepower up front (Gilzean/Greaves). If we can avoid the level of injuries we suffered I`m optimistic that we can enjoy another good season.

Transfer talk.

Looks like a decent mix of youth and experience so far and some physicality in the shape of the No1 keeper and centre back. If the midfielders are anywhere near as good as Randell they`ll get a thumbs up. A striker or possibly 2 still to follow ?

Sutton United v Torquay United

Massive win, made even better by the news on Danny Wright`s Twitter page that "The leg is nothing too serious and hopefully I`ll be ready to go again in a couple days" COYY

Boreham Wood v Torquay United - Saturday 13th March - KO 17:20

Still a lot of football to be played. We`re two thirds into the season. Excluding away to Dover which is unlikely to take place Sutton have 5 of their next 6 games away from home before they play us. Plenty of opportunity for them to drop points. I know we`re experiencing a total drop in form at the moment but we`ve plenty of games to put it right. We`re still in the mix.

My Top 10 Torquay United Memories.

Many of the aforementioned and I`ll add 16 March 1968 Gulls 3-0 Bury. Old Div 3 top of the table clash in front of 10693 fans and the MOTD cameras. Looked nailed on for promotion to Div 2 (Championship now) but it all went bad in the season run in to narrowly miss out.

Clint Boulton RIP

Remember him well and saw the vast majority of home games he played for us. He was a very decent all round player, an accomplished defender and midfielder and a very capable striker when called upon. As said in the article he was very popular with fans because he gave everything in any position he was asked to fill.

Bugger, they`ll be missed but we`ve still got enough going forward. Hopefully they`ll recover before too long.

Guilty of not posting for a while but I`m still here and like many no doubt, watch the streams, read all the reports, listen to all the interviews and read what you guys post on here. Great to see fans back, I hope to see a live game early in the New Year. As for the team, I`m bouncing... seems we have a good balance of youth and experience, talent and physicality and we`re resilient. Equally important we have depth in the squad. Winning is a great habit to have and fingers crossed may it continue to the end of the season.

Gordon Astall

At 62 I`m too young to remember Gordon as a player but I do remember him as an insurance representative in the Torbay area around the mid 1960`s I think. A true gentleman. If I not mistaken he used to drive a blue late model Morris Oxford that had numbers 777 in its distinctive number plate. Any of you older than me please feel free to help me out here.

Torquay Talk

I enjoy supporters` "best team" picks, a bit of fun and without doubt highly contentious because its one persons opinion based on who they have seen play. Also how do we measure a players "greatness" that in itself is very subjective. Eunan O`Kane "arguably" our greatest ever player is a very bold statement indeed samuellejones. A fine player for sure but I`m surprised at the lack of response. I was anticipating a rush to defend Don Mills or Robin Stubbs, Lee Sharpe or Jimmy Dunne perhaps. I`ll be interested to see if your post sparks any reaction.

Ex-Gull watch

The late Justin Fashanu to be honoured. A figure that we will no doubt polarise opinion but there`s no denying that in his prime the lad could play. Past his best when he played for us 1991-93, 15 goals in 41 appearances. Met with a tragic and premature end.

Match of the Day 3rd April 1983

Thanks for that posting. I feel quite nostalgic being reminded of the old mini stand and the open Babbacombe end not to mention Mr Boyce and Mr O`Farrell. I`ve searched the web myself for coverage of Utd 3 Bury 0, 16 March 1968 featured on MOTD but without success.
