Torquay United unveil huge plan for 10,000-seater stadium.

tomogull wrote: 25 Jul 2018, 22:54 I think you're barking up the wrong tree on this one, M.Y. Have you considered why the quaintly named Nightingale Park has not already been plastered by Cavanna 'little boxes' when virtually the whole 'Willows' area has been? It is because it is the site of the old Barton tip and can't be used for housing - that is why it is designated as 'recreational land'. I'm sure the end game, as previously stated on here several times, is for Plainmoor to be used as a sports field for The Spires (Westlands) School and housing built on the Quinta playing fields (nice area) which are currently used by the school.

Little has been said/written about the problems that will be faced - drainage being one of them - IF an arena or whatever is built on the Barton Tip. Although this has always been strongly rumoured to be the 'preferred site', I think this is the first time - an 'exclusive' claimed by Herald Express - that it has been stated it is definitely the site. :B
P.S. No self respecting nightingale would ever be seen/heard there!
Good points, the area is prone to flooding and smells of methane. It also sides onto the crematorium. I agree, why has Cavanna and alike pushed outwards rather than develop this piece of land. Simply because their is no land their that can be developed on. My friend who is not a builder but an architecture believes that it could also be tricky to develop any type of retail or leisure complex on the land, and that the developers would have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that there would be no health risks to participants, attendees, workers, neighbors and so on. I don't think the council would let Plainmoor be built on, that said, we have seen some pretty strange decisions made my Torbay Council over the past few decades.

The way is see it is that this will not progress, club debts will keep mounting and he will drive the club into administration at which point we will yet again be faced with searching for a savior.

If only my piggy bank was bigger!

So why GI are named again and why they could have any say on Plainmoor doesn't make sense. I know CO is behind both but it just makes my head hurt as I assume it is designed to
So so true, GI as a company are nothing to to with TUFC, that is clear if you examine the hundreds of papers available if you have a companies house membership. GI let go in Sept 2017 and Osbourne was declared the sole Director at the same time.

The company is Riviera Stadium Limited, it is being funded, it would seem from Mr Osbourne and NOT as a GI offshoot. You only need to examine the shareholding. The GI directors would surely not just let Osbourne run with money that belongs to GI.

The more worrying thing for me is that whilst Osbourne may be financing the day-to-day at the club he is running up huge creditor debts. Last notification was £360,000 in debt. Cheers Mr Osbourne.... this has got administration written all over it!

If Osbourne walks then we have to repay the debt or face bankruptcy, if he stays we have to accept whatever the outcome of this property development may be. Let us hope that he sticks to his word of providing a base before we are chucked out of Plainmoor.

Not surprising, Owers has gone from saying we need a target man to I might loan a few from city... no target man was on display in the city youth ranks. Same old tripe, for some reason it seems impossible of late to recruit a big target man at TUFC.

Torquay v Bristol City U23’s Tuesday night.

Good morning,

A lot to ask from the guys in the first half, the formation could have been 4-4-2, 4-3-2-1 or 4-4-1-1 but I can safely say it was 4 at the back.

First Half

GK:

Shaun Macdonald - 5 / 10 - average first half, perhaps lack of games, poor positioning for free-kick and not commanding at all. Half the keeper of Bass.

Defenders:

Ryan Dickson - 6 / 10 - was played at left back, might just about do a job as cover here but was responsible for the first goal (gave away possession and then fouled for the free-kick that was subsequently scored) Some good passing.

Bawling - 6 /10 - looked energetic but lightweight BUT his distribution was better (Played at right back).

Gowling - 3 / 10 - looked disinterested and despite his experience and ability, wasting a spot in the squad.

Cameron - 6 / 10 - best of the backline.

Midfielders:

Hall - 7 / 10 - I thought out of all his PSF games this was probably his best. Not quick, but we know that.

Nabi - 6 / 10 - Has stacks of ability but also stacks of weight, just doesnt look fit and again with Hall makes for a slow midfield.

Banton - 6 / 10 - Showed glimpses of his footballing past, perhaps lacking confidence, does have a bit of pace about him.

Forwards (?):

Roberts - 6 / 10 - had 4 chances to score, 3 hit the target, gets about and good leap despite being small.

Pittman - 4 / 10 - did nothing really.

Keating - 5 / 10 - didn't really get the ball much.

Second Half:

This was clearly the team and formation we are likely to see come Chelmsford away. Strange though that Owers said: we wont win the league with one up top.... is that not what we have?

GK:

Macdonald - 6 / 10 - Made one very good save this half and was not at fault for the goal.

Burton - 6 / 10 - Made a good reaction save, in my opinion looked more like an academy keeper from the local school, would worry me if he got a spot ahead of Macdonald.

Defenders:

Essuman - 6 / 10 - the most vocal of the backline, pleasantly surprised as he is only a youngster. His efforts to organise were to no avail though as time and time again Bristol City got behind the backline.

Niate - 6 / 10 - he is what he is - a brute of a defender, should do well at NLS.

Cameron - 6 / 10 - nice to see a defender try and pass the ball, although City were just a touch fast and kept intercepting his passes.

David - 6 / 10 - would get a 7 if he could cross the ball, I do not dispute how good an athlete he is but his passing / crossing is awful at times.

Bawling - 6 / 10 - same as first half.

Wynter - 5 / 10 - late sub so didnt really have time to impact.

Midfielders:

Hall - 6 / 10 - got tired in second half.

Nabi - 5 / 10 - as above.

Dickson - 6 / 10 - much of the same but looked so much more comfortable in midfield.

Forwards:

Williams - 7 / 10 - Great finish for goal but should have scored 2 more... could be a force if he stays hungry.

Reid - 6 / 10 - lost ball time and time again. One good chance to score - didn't!

Olaf - no rating - Not enough time to do much but fair play to the lad, got stuck in and should have a bright future.

For some daft reason (still deciding the reason) I am going to try and watch every game this season, home and away! I travel with work so this may just work out. I have seen all the PSF's and really not fussed about the scorelines. I am more keen to see how the players gel, interact, the on-field atmosphere and of course the new signings.

The glaringly obvious is that we have almost a new squad. Not many teams do that. I imagine it will take several league games before the players really start working cohesively together. It would be unfair to expect instant squad synergy and clearly there are still one or two bad eggs that need to move on.

If Bass is fit then great, if not, MacDonald will probably do a job for a game or two. The key for me is balancing the midfield, there is no pace in the middle of the pitch and therefore we have to get that ball out wide. What we do have though is a midfield that can pass and create, something lacking since the days of a pre-injury Luke Young and before that Master O'Kane.

I will be going on Saturday and will try and provide an update.

If my posting gets a little boring to read. Happy to take guidance / feedback.

*If I missed someone out or made a few spelling errors - sorry.

Cheers....

Truro ground share back on?

MellowYellow wrote: 24 Jul 2018, 14:24 Truro City to give unhappy fans refunds on season tickets following move to Torquay United's Plainmoor.

Truro must vacate Treyew Road by July 31st 2018, (nine days away.) to turn their ground into a Lidl Supermarket.

In response to their unhappy fans who will now have a 160 mile round trip if the wont to see their team play, Truro have said "We will say now that any person who has already purchased a season ticket for Treyew Road will be offered a full refund should they not wish to take up the opportunity of subsidised travel".

Truro first home match (plainmoor) against Billericay on 4 August .... Anyone goings  Thought not! So 12 cups of teas and a pasty for the Truro fans it is then - aside from the Truro fans you have to feel for the Truro players and the opposition having to play in a ghost stadium.

O'well it will be are turn next - ground share with Truro whilst to await Clarkes new stadium.

https://www.cornwalllive.com/sport/foot ... ns-1815100
Perhaps...

....But it has been said within both club and council circles that no move from Plainmoor will happen until a new facility in Torquay is ready.

I am not sure this was ever the case down in Truro - although from reading some of the stuff circulating, the Truro ground debacle has been going on for some time.

Time to concentrate on and enjoy the footie, COYY

Masters sounds like a total crook!

He seems to have slowly dismantled Truro and now he shoves them off to Torquay to die.

Truro ground share back on?

If Truro struggle this season and more fans wilt then it makes you wonder if they will even have a team come 2019/20 and beyond... Historical papers from the football league say that 3 months notice minimum is required if a team wishes to move grounds or ground-share and this application has to be made before the start of a new season and can only be made once a league has been fully played out.

Obvious that this was known for months, blatant business decision to not tell fans, hopeful that those that have committed to a season ticket will travel.

Interested to see what 'heavily subsidised' coaches for home games actually means - Masters joins the club of crooked lower league club owners!

cambgull wrote: 18 Jul 2018, 08:15 Thanks for that CP Gull.

It's fair to say then, that we should really be contending for promotion. Anything less would be considered an underachievement.

On paper, our squad looks very competitive, and not even bad for the league above in my opinion.
I do like to feel optimistic but my optimism is surrounded with caution... I remember the season we beat West Brom who had lots of premier league players in their team that day...

We then when on to just about survive at national league level...

Fingers crossed.

However he made a few good runs and passes, ive seen more in 2 pre season games than i did last season
That is true, I can't argue that Reid did string together a couple of passes.

Perhaps this year will be more his level?
