Playoff Final Vs Hartlepool at Ashton Gate

As a fan for 47 years and lucky to get a ticket for today’s game with my son, I experienced the roller coaster of emotions that goes with being a TUFC supporter.
Credit to both teams for some exciting attacking football, keepers made some great saves with one from Lucas tipping over the bar I thought outstanding.
The game would certainly have had a different outcome if the ref hadn’t made too many decisions that were stinkers!
As well as the 2 disallowed goals I thought there was also a clear penalty. But sadly this level of refereeing seems all too common at this level. Surprised he only gave 2 yellows for the off the ball fighting incident, when we have seen straight reds for less this season.

The Lucas moment will be a another TUFC special memory for me to store away.
I enjoyed the day - great team effort and Yellow Army performance but not the outcome. Somehow I feel better we pushed it to penalties. Would be more gutted if we had lost in 90mins. I’m not going to dwell on the what ifs, why didn’t he…… At the end of the day it came down to a lottery!

Feel sad for the Gary, the staff and the Team who have dealt with and given so much this season.

As always the TUFC team and Yellow Army showed we know how to lose (and win) with dignity at the end, shame on the opposition supporters who don’t know what this means.

I’m sure our flock of blow-up seagulls will fly again next season

Chants thread

I also remember Mollie Malone being sung in the late 70’s.
There used to be a large bearded gent in a white coat, walking around the perimeter of the Saturday night 7.30 kick offs, selling Seafood from a basket. Cockles, mussels and prawns etc.
On reaching the Mini Stand the Mollie Malone chant rang out.
However the last line “singing cockles and mussels alive, alive O” —
Was replaced with “singing TU, TUF, TUFC Torquay”
Happy times!

I also recall an alternative version of the Willie Brown chant

Oh! Willie, Willie!
Willie, Willie, Willie, Willie ever score!

Rather unkind I thought, as he was a real fans favourite.
He scored one of the finest goals I have ever seen, whilst running at top sprint, he hit a bullet volley from 30 yards into the top corner. Mini Stand went wild only to see it disallowed for off-side!!
Another magic Plainmoor moment firmly fixed in my memory

Gordon Banks played at Plainmoor

I started watching and supporting the Gulls in the mid 70’s.
During the summer when Torbay was full of holidaymakers we were treated to some top sides visiting Plainmoor for pre-season friendlies and some great exhibition matches.

Around 76 or 77 (?) I saw the great Gordon Banks play in an exhibition match. Does anyone else remember this? Was it an all-star ex-international team v the Saudi Arabia national side, which were then managed by Jimmy Hill?

I remember one popside pundit shouting out - just watch Banks’ feet. The shots were raining in and sure enough his feet were dancing, constantly adjusting his position at lighting speed. He hardly had to dive all afternoon, he seemed to be always in the right position!
This was after his car crash when he only had the sight in one eye! Seeing Gordon Banks - a true legend in action is up there in my all time great football memories. RIP

Does anyone remember this match or who else was in the team? I think Jimmy Greaves, John Charles, Bobby Moore ?
