Torquay United v Ebbsfleet United 25/1/20

We must remember, any formation, team set up only works if you have the players to fit, GJ's default game plan, relies on having a fully fit, Wynter, Davis, CLE, Hall and Little, we don't have that at the moment.
Then change the default!! Show some true managerial quality by changing the formation and game plan to fit the players you have available?

Torquay United v Ebbsfleet United 25/1/20

I’ve said it before: GJ signed up a new striker who we pay full time wages to each and every week. The fact that he doesn’t even get a look in with a team performing to the dismal level that we sunk to on Saturday is outrageous. Give Olaf a game and please don’t tell me he’s too young or inexperienced. Before we know it he’ll be too old and inexperienced.

Torquay United v Ebbsfleet United 25/1/20

The good news is that should these quality tactics and formations keep us up, we’ll get to enjoy them again next year!

The loyalty to GJ is truly outstanding. Most of the content backing it up (along with the nostalgia) is totally irrelevant but still admirably supportive.
Anyway, here’s hoping for 3 points on Saturday!

And you cant categorically state we will go down either.
Form can change.
Reid might just stay.
Who cares about the NLS champs from 2yrs ago?
Who predicted Brighton or Bournemouth would be in the premier league after playing us a few years ago?
I never have said we will definitely go down. I’ve said we’re in trouble and I don’t believe our current manager has a plan to get us out of it. Teams around us will act in various ways to instigate a reaction and we need to be ready to do the same. We may already have enough points to stay up for all I know but wouldn’t want to put money on it.

some on here - as I've said before - thought we'd walk this league.....
whereas others would be happy - with the squad we had - a mid table finish.
thats what I was hoping for.
if we were to finish nearer the bottom, so be it, the important thing is to stay in the NL and we will achieve that - despite what some on here might think.
What makes you so sure? You cannot categorically state that we will stay up because we probably need to win at least 4 of our last 16 games. On current form, it is in no way a certainty that this will happen. There is no doubt more injuries to deal with and if an offer comes in for Jamie Reid he will be gone as well. We won’t stay up just because we are Torquay. The winners of NLS 2 years ago are back there now and the same could easily happen to us. Like you I hope it doesn’t but unlike you, I believe it is a worrying possibility.

We are in a relegation battle without a doubt. Trouble is all the people who think we are deluded to say this are obviously ardent supporters. This adoration automatically puts up a defence mechanism where they feel they have to try and undermine the people who are taking an honest and unbiased view of what is unfurling in front of them.
Plenty of teams with huge injury lists continue to prosper by facing up to reality and sending their teams out with clear game plans to counteract their current shortcomings.
By the way, all of us who post opinions which clearly suggest there are problems at Plainmoor are also ardent fans. We just don’t let that fact cloud our judgment.

3. GJ must think he's "good enough" - otherwise he wouldn't have a contract.
That was my assumption too. So when we’re in need of a goal why not throw him on for 20 minutes? He’ll learn a lot more playing football than he will keeping the seats warm whilst talking to disillusioned out of favour teammates.

5 at the back? It doesn't bloody work.
Substitutes are there to change the game......if given time.
Players don't look fit.
I could go on
Don’t worry wbw. A couple of new defenders in today so no doubt one of them will be able to play alongside Reid next week! Johnson also needs to man up and tell Koszela to go and train as a plumber because he obviously doesn’t think he’s good enough to play football at conference level.

Thank you forevertufc. courteous and sensible responses last The best season I had following the mighty gulls was without doubt whilst Leroy was in charge in our promotion year. Naivety was rife but the entertainment and results will be hard to beat. If we hadn’t managed to snatch relegation away from 3 other teams on the last day of the following season I genuinely believe he would have continued improving us. This is what I want to see again at Plainmoor and unfortunately I don’t think GJ is the person to achieve this. How about Liam Rosenior? Currently coaching at Derby I think.

Alex Ferguson eh? Joined St Mirren whilst they were struggling in the Scottish 2nd division after an unremarkable year with East Stiling. He was 33 at the time. Within 3 years StMirren were Scottish first division champions with a team average age below 20! I bet in 1974 the fans of St Mirren would not have given Ferguson a second thought. The owners of the club however must have looked beyond the usual uninspiring names that were being touted at the time. They researched and (I guess) interviewed Ferguson and other equally less known candidates, some of which they may not even have known, and subsequently appointed a future legend!

If I was putting a plan together it would involve somebody half the current managers age who is chomping at the bit to utilise his new coaching qualifications and exploit his lower league contacts. What people need to remember is that Torquay United is a club with huge potential. We should stop thinking that we cannot get anyone to work for us but instead concentrate on the fact that to manage our club would be a huge honour and opportunity. If we can sell football shirts to our own fans for£20 more than they’re worth I’m sure we can sell the chance to kick-start somebody’s career for a sensible wage.
Top of the league and impressive with it; Barrow manager’s cv reads as follows: caretaker manager for Chesterfield’s last 3 games when they were relegated out of the football league. There will be plenty more like him out there just waiting to prove themselves.
The alternative it seems is put on my rose tinted glasses and bury my head on one of Torquay’s fabulous sandy beaches!

Lots of people backing the manager which is fantastically loyal but other than insults directed at those posting rational concerns, I don’t see a lot of valid arguments to back up their shortsightedness. The continued claims about our injury ravaged team hold no water as far as I’m concerned. We had no injuries against Boreham Wood’s 10 men first game of the season and we were definitely less than impressive that day. Followed it up with a shocker at Solihull and another home defeat to Mighty Maidenhead. Three of our home wins have been achieved when playing for a sustained period against 10 men. With the odd exception, we have not played well all season and we have done nothing to correct a fragile defence other than to keep swapping the goalkeeper behind it. We owe a big thank you to Jamie Reid but should he move on during this transfer window, where are the goals going to come from then?
We’re heading for stormy waters during the second half of the season and I for one just hope we don’t end up sinking.

Forevertufc I am not a recruitment specialist and how can us mere supporters have any sort of clue as to who is both available and affordable. I’d love GJ to get things right and stay as manager. However, we need to take the blinkers off before it’s too late.

Good to see Koszela given another opportunity when we needed a goal on Saturday! Oh no my mistake! We don’t bring on an enthusiastic young striker who we are paying full tip me wages to each week to see if he can offer something a little different and maybe nick the points.
Decided to have a little look at the reasons behind Johnson leaving Cheltenham a little earlier. Wow! Deja vu is the phrase I believe! Have a read why don’t you?
