Squad 2024/25
I am confident that Messrs Wotton, Edwards and Warnock have carried out due diligence on new signings, but, playing devil's advocate, there are a couple of reasonable questions I would like to ask. I am not being negative, but would welcome some further information.
Firstly, we are told that Jay Foulston enjoyed a stellar season with Yeovil. If that was the case I'm a little curious as to why they didn't offer him a contract. That's not a criticism of the young man and I hope he has a brilliant couple of years at Plainmoor.
Secondly, I note that Oscar Threlkeld has played nine matches over the past two seasons. In view of the Kevin Dawson fiasco, I trust that the club has carried out in-depth enquiries to ensure that, notwithstanding unforeseen events, he will spend more time on the pitch than in the treatment room. As with Foulston, I wish him well.

New role for Gary
No doubt Cheltenham can look forward to a host of 'marquee signings', most of whom will spend more time in the treatment room and stand than they will on the pitch!!

New manager announced - Paul Wotton
Initially, I considered the prospect of Paul Wotton as manager underwhelming.
However, after learning that he will be in partnership with Neil Warnock, I take it back and see this as a very positive appointment.
Neil Warnock has his detractors, but, at this level, his managerial experience and contacts should prove invaluable.
Just need to begin recruiting a squad with the same commitment as the managerial partnership.

I realise that Torquay is in a 'Mickey Mouse' league, but I would like to see someone with more gravitas than Paul Wotton appointed. That is not meant to be disrespectful to him but he's hardly set the world alight managing Truro, who narrowly escaped relegation.

Bryn Consortium Take-Over
Not being a lawyer, is it definitive that the consortium is the new owner or are there further legalities that have to be completed before any deal is finalised?

I've said it before and make no apologies for repeating it, but if the infandous Edwards and Hayman are involved it's RIP Torquay United.

Torquay United v H&W Sat 20th Apr 3pm
Why would Torquay United want to sign any players from Taunton who have proved that they are not good enough to play at this level?
I hope to be proved wrong, but I remain highly suspicious about the secrecy surrounding the identity of the preferred bidder. As previously mentioned, other clubs are overt about potential purchasers/investors - e.g. Man Utd and Sir Jim Ratcliffe - so why all the cloak and dagger activities at Plainmoor?

The secrecy surrounding the potential purchaser is nonsense because there was more openness from the Soviet Politbureau than there has been from Torquay United during, and now post, the Osborne regime.
I read on an almost weekly basis of named prospective purchasers of other football clubs. If they can release information into the public domain, why can't Torquay United?

I'm reluctant to bring a touch of realism to all of the triumphalism.
However, it shows the dire state of Torquay United that fans are celebrating the fact that it has avoided relegation to the 7th tier of English football.
While not knowing the identity of a prospective purchaser - yet more nonsense from the powers that be - it is time for an almost entire clear out of the managerial and playing staff, who have proved to be, on the whole, incompetent at this level.

Staying Up - Relegation Battle
I don't wish to be the purveyor of doom.
However, in my opinion, it shows how far this club has fallen that contributors to this site are relying on the failures of part-time clubs to keep this full-time club in this league. I realise that the points' deduction has played its part, but as I have commented previously most of the players should be ashamed to call themselves professional footballers.
If a consortium involving Hayman and Edwards gains control then I predict that things will get infinitely worse.

Staying Up - Relegation Battle
It's an absolute disgrace that these so-called professionals may have to rely on other results going their way to escape relegation.
They have now lost 19 games in what is, predominantly, a part-time league.
I know it wont happen, for practical reasons, but I would get rid of the whole squad, together with Downes and the appalling Peter Johnson, if he is still employed. The club needs a complete clear out together with a major revamp.
