Wearne
Would loved to have seen him back with us next season. Easily good enough for lg2 in my opinion.

Retained list out!
I have to say reading that article today makes me more worried. Why would the club not announce signings, it just makes no sense? The only names I’ve heard are Kieran Evans on loan from Cardiff and Michael Kelly from Eastleigh. We all know we’ve lost most of our best players from last season and I can only assume we aren’t in a good position at the moment.

Retained List 2022/23
I hope I’m wrong but I’d be a bit concerned that he is still playing at that level at 25. I can think of a few big goalscorers coming from lower levels to go on to bigger things such as Charlie Austin, Lee Gregory Jamie Vardg etc but i I think they were picked up by pro clubs in their early 20s. Charlie Austin was also prolific at Poole but Swindon signed him when he was 20ish. Clubs scouting is so good these days surely other clubs have looked at him and decided against it. Anyway we are desperate for goalscorers so if he comes we really need it to work.

Retained List 2022/23
I tend to agree with this. I really don’t think the team from last season was that far away from competing at the top end of the league as shown by our results against many of the big sides. We lacked a proper goal scorer and options from the bench and after our start we’re just too far adrift. Little scored 15 last season and CLE 11 and the problem we have now is it’s essentially a complete rebuild of the side, instead of possibly being able to find 2-3 players that could have made the difference.MellowYellow wrote: ↑01 Jun 2022, 09:51 I also have a different take than DawlishMatt as I believe that Lemonheigh-Evans, Little and Lewis were the nucleus of our side and will be sorely missed. As for making the grade in the EFL they are at their prime to kick-on in their career and believe the will be a great asset to their next club. Whilst I can live with Wynter. McDonald and Wright moving on they all have nonetheless been great servants to our club and wish them all well in their future endeavours. In monetary terms aside from Notts and Wrexham I believe our offer to Evans, Little and Lewis was extremely generous and would not have been bettered by the other National League clubs. As for promotion contenders it goes without saying that we need players of a good standard but I'd happily take a young non-league Jamie Vardy over a football league journeyman like Karl Hawley.
The only positive I see is that the club have known for a while these players were not staying. Given they would have been the top earners and by our standards offered decent contracts there must be some room in the budget to recruit some decent replacements. I can only hope GJ has identified the right players and they want to come to us.

GJ confirmed Little, Lemon, Lewis, McDonald, Wynts and Wright turned down contracts. Was hoping we might be able to keep 1 or 2 of those.
Omar, moxey, Martin, lapsile, asa signed.

Have to laugh a bit at Wrexham, unfortunately means we are probably playing for a playoff spot at best next season.

Would be interesting if the deadline is 22nd as it puts big pressure on players to sign. The playoffs don’t start until the 23rd and the final isn’t until the 5th June. Most of our rivals won’t know what league they will be in what budget they have etc.
Unless the player has a firm offer or an offer from a guaranteed EFL team do they wait to see what happens or take what’s on offer. Sounds like GJ isn’t messing about
