Three Strikers

Better get used to looking at the National League South because that's where we are heading. Once again most of the game was stifled. Where are these Marquee signings? What happened to the 5 year plan? Is it time for change?

Nothing on the bench in attack again, not good enough!

Torquay v Barnet - Sat 18th February - 3pm

A good win and well deserved.
Both strikers scoring made a difference in the fine margin of winning or losing, we definitely need at least three strikers fit to be able to carry on the momentum.

Three Strikers

If a team can stifle another team it means the other team has no threat!
Scoring goals is the only threat and now we are down to Aaron and Tope as Lewis and James are sidelined, it's a good job we had four and not two strikers.
Without the training for the strikers "Gary's way" will always be stifled at each and every opportunity as todays result shows.

Three Strikers

So James Crole has an ankle injury in the strikers department where we NOW have Aaron, Tope, Lewis and James.
James Crole being out of action introduced Lewis Collins on the bench even though he was on the 'radar' and had only just joined the club.
This is an explanation of why JC has been missing but it doesn't say why you would play a player that you would take off before half time, you don't put your man on knowing he would be a weaker link because of a situation when he is stronger when the game progresses.
Were the tactics and lineup wrong? Well obviously because it was a losing game.
To put the onus on a young striker to stop a 'marauding' now seasoned pro who went from us to them when he should be playing much higher, and telling him, he's "going to be taken off before half time" must have been the greatest demotivational talk he's ever had!
GJ is always on about entertaining yet we've been on two strikers up until now!
We now have four strikers, perhaps I should of named this thread as so, but it's no good naming when there is no one who can attest the strengths and weaknesses of the forward line which is obviously missing.
We may just scrape through this season with the team and staff we have but it needs another attacking influence off the pitch.
Small margins are what it takes to win or lose and it's obvious we are missing a backroom link because it has taken until now to realise.

he was knackered, he had to come off - you'd be moaning if he had stayed on saying "why didn't he bring collins on!"

asking what else there is on the bench is rubbish too - who were you expecting to see on the bench today?
How the hell could someone say "why didn't he bring Collins on!" when not one of us has even seen Collins play!
If he was knackered what was he doing on the pitch?
Drivel, yes good word when used in the right context.

V Notts County
Is this management team clutching at straws?
Taking Tope Fadahunsi off after 30 odd minutes into a game where the only player to have one assist and a goal in the last two games, is like taking the Queen off a chess board 21 moves in!
Just because a STRIKER doesn't show his full game to a defender early on in a game, is the reason why a defender doesn't know how to handle him when he does.
When the opportunity presented itself and to be able to get back at least a point, there was no gas left in the tank and sweet fanny addams all on the bench! WHY?
I can't believe that Fadahunsi was unfit because if he was, then he wouldn't of even been on the bench, and if he was unfit, then who the hell is in control of the team?

Torquay United V Notts County Sat 4 Feb KO 3pm

So if Fadahunsi was taken off because he wasn't fit enough to play, who is looking at the squad before a game?

As Aguiar leaves us and Collins joins the belief that we can get one extra goal is there, the defense ain't looking too bad either!

I see the fine margin team of the NL just thumped Chesterfield 3-0, we won 1-0 because of the backup in the belief of the defenders and the strikers that is lacking!

Cheddargull wrote: 20 Jan 2023, 17:06 If it was simply a case of "fine margins" it would also be a case of some you lose, some you win. In other words it would simply be down to luck and in that scenario we would probably win as many as we lose. But that isn't the case, it is a question of quality in the team and in most positions we don't have that. It is also not about the number of strikers we have but also the quality of service they get from midfield.
Your outlook is too simplistic.
And yet it must be a game of fine margins as as you point out the game isn't totally random!
If it is a question of quality in the team then three forwards/strikers is better than one or two.
Too simple for many.

I do find it interesting that when presented with facts based from form cognitive dissonance kicks in for some.
It's a shame because what this does show is just how fine a margin or margins is or do for the whole club.
I believe this period is the most important a test for all those involved with the club, which includes the supporters, you see if the supporters can see how fine the margins are then they may well be able to increase their fantastic support for the team on the pitch.

gullsgullsgulls wrote: 19 Jan 2023, 19:10 A two goal swing is not a fine margin. You could apply this methodology to most professional football sides and they would be top of the league..!!
There is no finer margin than winning +1 or losing -1.
And I did say "margins".
If the squad apply both of these methods with 20 games remaining we should accumilate a final total of points being 70pts, just shy of the play offs.
If the squad only apply one of these methods the accumilation of pts will be approximately 57 pts, mid table.
And, if neither of these methods are taken up then we will end up with approx 46 pts, relegated.
Fine margins.

culmstockgull wrote: 19 Jan 2023, 17:19 We seem to have gone from a discussion amongst fans for three strikers to now having four, why, at most you can only play two in games. This season,
on occasion we have played with one, as a starting eleven if you want to play wyatt and de sousa plus three in the middle then there is no room for more than two, logically you do not get loans in to bench warm nor will their parent club allow it, so I stick with my earlier assertion that we will lose players during the january window, and not ones we can afford to lose.
If you're including Aguiar as a striker then that's not his position and I don't see where the fourth could otherwise be.
One could play three strikers at the end of the game or even beginning, so you can't only play just two strikers.
We have been playing with one striker because the options were limited, now we have a full squad which will be limited down to two strikers on occasions which is why need three.
Their parent club want the best experience with the most competitiveness the player can handle.
We will not be losing players that want to be here.

I've said before we only need one more goal and 3 Strikers.
We now have a full squad and therefore the anti needs to be changed.
We only need one more goal and we need one less against.
Fine margins which are achievable as Notts Co are proving.
Games with one more goal and one less goal for TUFC...
1-0 Oldham 3pts
2-0 Halifax 3 pts
1-0 Bromley 3 pts
1-0 Boreham W 3 pts
1-0 Maidstone 3 pts
2-2 Woking 1 pt
3-0 Southend 3 pts
2-3 Solihull M 0 pts
2-0 Wealdstone 3 pts
1-5 Wrexham 0 pts
2-0 Scunthorpe 3 pts
3-2 Maidenhead 3 pts
1-0 York 3 pts
5-3 Altrincham 3 pts
1-0 Eastleigh 3 pts
1-3 Notts Co 0 pts
7-0 Aldershot 3 pts
4-2 Dorking 3 pts
2-4 Chesterfield 0 pts
1-0 Barnet 3 pts
2-0 Gateshead 3 pts
2-0 Dagenham 3 pts
3-2 Oldham 3 pts
2-0 Yeovil 3 pts
1-1 Yeovil 1 pt
2-0 Halifax 3 pts
PLD-26 W-20 D-2 L-4 GF-55 GA-27 PTS-62
Joint top on pts.
Obviously this is with a full squad a better defence and better goal scorers, but this just goes to show there are only two areas we need to be better at, +1 goal and -1 against.
I will add, although we now have 3 Strikers/Forwards I don't see where the coaching of said three is coming from!
PS.
How many of you who have been at the matches think these scores were nearly there or should have been?
