Torquay United v Wealdstone - 11th March
No loss here thenStoneybroke wrote: ↑11 Mar 2023, 14:39 Was thinking of going to Plainmoor this afternoon but have changed my mind
Going instead Sunday 19th when Steve Elswood's band wagon rocks up at Plainmoor, probably the better footballing occasion. Gary could send some of his bunch along to see how to pass ,cross ,defend and most of all find the net.
See you there ??

Solihull Moors v Torquay United - 7th March
This i believe can be sorted by a small tactical tweek.toastkid wrote: ↑09 Mar 2023, 20:39 Donnellan isn't a bad player, but when we are not winning he has a tendency to rush forward, we lose the ball and there's a gaping hole behind him that gets exploited time and time again. Donnellan eventually gets back way too late.
The penalty the other week was also a shocking decision by him. And so, I suppose his problem is awareness and decision making. Risk vs reward doesn't get considered enough by Donnellan or several of our players.
When 1 of the full backs goes forward, have 1 of the defensive midfielders stay back to create back , that way we aren't being compromised at the back and this will cover us in the defensive transitions

I did read your post perfectly fine, saying he isn't good is very harsh, last year's team could have used him as he is very versatile and could have covered for a number of positions and do it very well.
He is consistently good for us considering the position we're in, put him in a better squad and we'd be saying he is good

Couldn't disagree more, Donnellan is more than good enough for this squad, plays pretty anywhere he's asked to and puts in a good shifthector wrote: ↑09 Mar 2023, 19:10 The fact that some people like Donnelan kind of shows just how poor our team is. He really is a poor player who looks competent in comparison to his teammates but he wouldn’t have got near even the side we had a year ago.
He reminds me of (for anyone who remembers the mid-80s) Steve Pugh. When Steve Pugh joined us in the 83/84 season he looked such a poor player. Then when Dave Webb got rid of all of our good players and signed dross from the local leagues, Steve Pugh was suddenly one of our best players because the others were even worse. Donnelan is the same.

Quick question, you think GJ was given the budget to replace Cameron, Nemane, CLE, Lewis, Armani, McDonald, Ben Wynter, Whitfield etc? My guess would be no, unless given the budget to hold players down for multiple years we face the same thing every year, we lose players to better sides and then have to bring in the players who have a 50/50 chance of being good enough, I imagine if we could've held the players down from last year and then got paid by those clubs we'd have had a budget to go and compete again.culmstockgull wrote: ↑09 Mar 2023, 12:05 Mr Tea, while I agree with the majority of your posting, and no one should have to tolerate the abuse Johnosn got after the last home match, but I understand the frustration of the die hard fans who have been marginalized and ignored for the last two seasons who turn up week after week with their hard earned cash to see what, a team that has class, a team with obvious exceptions that tries, a manager and staff that make things happen, honest post match reflections of the game.
Can we blame the owner, not in my book, he gives johnson a budget and I am sure additional support when needed, he relies on an experienced manager to deal with all football matters, and this season he has not been up to the task, I still believe the money available would have been the same or similar to last season becuase if you believe what Johnson says that he has the full backing of the owner and that must include finance. This season we went for quantity over quality and retained expensive players who were past there best.
We have four players out on season loans who we are undoubtedly still paying at least part or all of their salaries, players we know that on past experience will be released with best wishes at the end of the season.
All this adds up to mismanagement on a grand scale, the owner does not pick the team or the tactics, this is a failure at the footballing level.Johnson has to own it, only then will his legacy in years to come be remembered with any degree of warmth.
Until the owner really throws money to a manager (I'm not suggesting GJ) to go and build a squad decent enough for the level then we can't blame managers for not bringing the best players

Aldershot v Torquay United Sat 4th March KO 3pm
Based on the highlights it seemed that every chance we created was from putting the ball on the floor and playing, I would hope this might show to the staff that it is indeed possible to play good football and not smash it long every chance we get, hopefully something to build on for Tuesday

If this is true then I would hope we've been working on a couple of loans after Da Silva and Crole have returned to their clubs, I would hope for a central midfielder who can put the ball on the floor and manage the midfield and perhaps a Right Back so that Donnellan doesn't have to be used thereTUFCfan wrote: ↑02 Mar 2023, 22:08 https://x.com/GlenWilliams12/status/1630553838255067136
Hadn't seen it on the OS either, but this tweet from a Cardiff journalist says Crole's loan was cut short due to an ankle injury.

They would also hate being in a team with you most likely, players feed off our energy, when the ground becomes toxic after a misplaced pass etc, it doesn't help

Lapslie- say this every week but covered the whole pitch
Jarvis- bagged a goal and worked hard the whole game
Lawrence- kept both their strikers in his pocket the entire game
Donnellan- really solid at full back, defended well and got forward when needed
Moxey- same as Lawrence really, defended well and got some good interceptions and clearances in crunch time

Mark Ellis! (Permanently??)
Mark was a great defender against teams who hit the ball long but he does struggle when teams put the ball down and run at him

If your opinion is unchanged then you came to the same same wrong decision that the officials did.toastkid wrote: ↑05 Feb 2023, 08:19 So at the match, I was sat right in front of the penalty incident. To me it looked as if Nemane played a ball, then ran, Wyatt was slow off the mark, Nemane was away and Wyatt tripped him, cos he was gone. Now, Ive just looked at the highlights, and my opinion is unchanged. Stone wall. Come on guys be honest when its due. Clear pen. Say what you want about the lino, but Wyatt tripped the bloke in the box. It's a pen.
Wyatt comes across the ball and makes next to no contact, Nemane does this all the time and because he's small he gets away with it.

Just seen the highlights, Wyatt gets the ball and Nemane goes down with very little contact, shambolic decision which the linesman has bottled the decision

I took a friend of mine to the game who doesn't watch much non league football.
Asked him for his thoughts on the game and he said that it was a close game and could've gone either way, I then told him they were top of the league and his response was 'no way, they don't look good enough
