What a great game that was! Can hardly believe it was 12 years ago. Brett Ormerod was playing for them and scored, Habib Sissoko (now there was a player!) levelled it up for us at half time with a pretty decent volley - about the only thing he ever did for us - before Ormerod scored again in the second half. Then cue Eifion with two stoppage time goals - the second of which was a brilliant solo run and thumping top corner finish. One of my early Torquay heroes was Eifion - largely down to that game!

Would love to see that game again.

Re: Goals you'll always remember.

So many to choose from!

- Nicho and Eunan's screamers, and Rene's at Burton to name a few from this season.
- Hilly's goal against Exter in 'that' play-off semi final second leg at Plainmoor (absolute cracker).
- Thorpey's overhead kick and Sako's screambox from the 'dark' years.
- Either of the goals from Southend in the L1 promotion year, although my particular favourite from that era was Jason Fowler's beauty from 20 yards into the bottom corner at Northampton on the opening day of the season.
- And already mentioned, but definitely worth another, any of the goals from the 4-1 over Scarborough in 1998.

But in terms of a goal I'll always remember, for it's sheer significance, symoblic-ness and the awesome move that set it up - it has to be Sillsy's header at Wembley.

Re: Bodin back to Torquay!!

Delighted with this one - welcome back aboard Billy! Exactly the type of player we needed in the second half of last season, and certainly a far more worthy use of 70k than the last time we payed that sort of money for a player (Leon Constantine who's a free agent after 'ripping up' the Conference North with Boston, scoring an incredible no goals in nine games).

I think we might start the season with Howe, Bodin and Jarvis as our strikers, and only see another come in on loan if there's injuries. May well be wrong though.

Just one experienced CB away from a very exciting squad.

Re: Bodin back to Torquay?

Agreed - good to know we are making an attempt to get him, and also that we're not putting a crazy bid in either. 40-50k is what he's worth (at this moment in time) and if someone wants to pay massively over the odds for him, then fine. He's a young and still largely unproven player, and anything more than what we've put in would represent a fair risk.

I'd love us to sign him, as I think he's exactly what we need. Will we? It's tough to say. Billy has said that he wants first team football, and we can certainly offer him that. Considering the fact he didn't really trouble Crewe's first team massively, maybe he would see us as a more sensible move. And with his Dad advising him, perhaps that connection will work in our favour. But in all honesty I can't see him coming here.

Genuinely delighted with this! Great work Lingy. Thought Pokey was terrific before and good to have him back.

Full credit to Roadrunner for tipping us off earlier, too.

Re: Tom Cruise signs for the gulls

Lingy being a bit of a 'maverick' ;-)

I too remember him playing against us for Carlisle in the cup. Was a bit shaky but that was a couple of years ago. Could prove to be a really decent signing. Happy with this one.

Very interesting. Also worth noting that he's signed Scotty Rendell on a free today - once again showing his preference for going with what he knows (and who wouldn't as a manager?).

Don't know whether that signing changes anything with regards him chasing Bodin?

Re: New Goalkeeper

Interesting bit of confirmation on the Herald Express site this morning (no name attributed, but presumably written by Dave Thomas) that, as well as an offer for Craig Easton and a bid for Billy Bodin on the cards, Michael Poke is one of the players under consideration for our new keeper. Really good to see us aiming high! Article is here:

Re: Bobby to Peterborough?

Shame to see a player of real quality like Bobby go. Thought we might get another season from him, but you can't begrudge him a move, and he goes with everyone's best wishes. At least he's chosen a club where he'll get plenty of game time, and it represents a brilliant piece of business from our point of view.

Whoever his replacement is will have huge boots to fill...as we've seen this season, a squad challenging for promotion needs a quality keeper, so hopefully Lingy will pull another rabbit out of the hat on that front.

As much as I'd love it to be Poke, I just can't see it happening. He settled well into the area during his previous spells if I recall correctly, but I think he rightly sees his level at either a lower-end Championship side or, more likely I'd imagine, a team in League 1. Even if Ling could tempt him into coming back - would our wage structure be able to sufficiently accommodate what would surely be one of the top earners, even with a few nice transfer fees in the kitty? He would be worth pushing the boat out for, but not breaking the bank. Ling also comes across as very much his own man, and I'm sure he has a few of his own targets in mind.

But still, we can dream!

Re: It just got worse ... Bobby to Posh?

Would be gutting if this happened. Lingy did extraordinarily well pulling him out of the hat when we were in a similar situation last year, so we'll have to trust him to do the same if Bobby does move on. Poke's been released by Brighton...would be great to see him back here although I'd imagine plenty of L1 clubs will be sniffing around.

Atieno gone

He's off. Probably for the best. Few important goals but needs to go...especially if Jarvis comes in (which, reading between the lines of the article, sounds possible).

Re: No more football league highlights on BBC online?

Unfortunately the BBC is having to cut it's budget massively and sport is taking the brunt of it (hence the reduction in F1 coverage amongst others).

When you look at it, they were providing it online twice, unnecessarily, and treading on the toes of the 'Player' sites too (I hardly watched any of our highlights on there thanks to it being on the BBC website).

So while it's a shame, at least the coverage is staying on free-to-air TV, even if that means having to suffer Steve Claridge.

Couldn't see this mentioned anywhere - Bodin offered a new contract at Swindon, which may well end any chance of a swap deal for Eunan, dissapointingly.

Re: Torquay United v Cheltenham Town - 17.5.12

Sure I'll come round to the idea that it's been a great season eventually, but to be on the brink of automatic promotion and end up going out in the playoffs is absolutely gutting.

Great effort tonight, but summed up our season totally - so many missed chances which, had they been taken, would've changed the game. A clinical striker needed for next season.
