Ne plus ultra

Strange how the memory plays tricks. I thought I remembered that Fulham game well. I watched it on the Popsicle with a work colleague Fulham fan. I'd have sworn Scott Partridge got the winner but looks like I've confused that with his late equaliser.

Either way I remember Golden Goal being a slightly surreal way to win or lose any game.

Remaining Fixtures

Has this been mentioned before? I don't read everything.

By my reckoning, once we've played Bristol Rovers twice over the holiday period we'll only have four games left to play against teams currently in the top ten over the final third of the season. Only two against teams in the top eight.

That has to be viewed as an opportunity to progress up the table!

Torquay.v. Barnet

Surely the issue with time wasting is not so much that it happens but consistency in how it's dealt with.

As someone has said, Rice was booked last week for much less than was going on yesterday. The "referee" yesterday also did not appear to issue any warnings or encourage Barnet to speed up and not enough time was added to compensate. I have no problem with Barnet time wasting and doing all they can to protect their lead - I would "expect" us to do the same. I do have a problem with officials who take absolutely no action and do not compensate enough.

I also have a problem with players who cannot read a game enough to know that they are being "tested" and then fail that test in catastrophic fashion.

Maybe we should however think ourselves lucky that MacDonald was not also the recipient of a red card thus leaving us with only one central defender for the next three games... how many points have hot heads cost us so far this season?

That's my one post for this quarter. I'll see you all when my next electricity bill lands.

Stewards

I too witnessed this clown reprimand the youth team players in Block C of the bench. I was sitting directly behind them for the whole game. They were doing nothing wrong, were well behaved and causing no problems. One could even argue that their conduct and behaviour was a good advert for the club.

I often place my feet on the seat in front if it's empty and, in doing so, probably impose less wear and tear on it than the average backside of a paying punter. I did so today but was lucky enough to escape the attention of Agent 007. The lads in front of me were not willfully defying this "official", but simply forgetting what they'd been told and doing something I consider quite natural.

I don't think I'd have been as restrained as these lads were if I'd been the subject of his attention. Not a good advert for TUFC.

Re: Goals you'll always remember.

I always remember a Paul Gibbs goal in the nearly season of 97-98. A very late equaliser in a 1-1 home draw with Leyton Orient? Evening game. Hit from 25 or 30 or 35 yards - it gets longer as time passes. Still rising when it hit the back of the net. Probably would still be rising now if it hadn't.

Of course, it could have been a shinned 6 yarder; memory is a strange thing, but I don't think so. I've never seen any TV pics so only have my "real time" memory to go on. Would love to know if anyone else remembers it? Corroboration would help my sanity.

Re: Ticket Fiasco

I'm not a habitual "club knocker" and wouldn't normally mention this, but in the circumstances anyone ordering over the phone should perhaps be aware....

I purchased two tickets over the phone for the Chesterfield game and collected them on the day of the game. All worked perfectly.

HOWEVER

By chance I noticed on my bank statement that I'd been charged for the tickets not once, not twice, but three times. To be fair, the club have said they will sort it out, but if I hadn't noticed it on my statement I'd have never known. I'm not one who normally spends a lot of time looking at my bank statements as part of my personal mission not to become too depressed by life.

So, be warned. If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. Might be a good idea to check your bank statement sometime in the next few weeks.

Onwards and upwards.

Re: Can someone date this photo?

Didn't Newport County play in similar colours? I vaguely remember a boxing day match against them from the same era.

Good kit, but not quite as good as the one with blue shorts that preceded it.
