Mr Owers steps down

I havnt a clue who might be a success as manager of TUFC.

But for me it must be someone who will command the respect of the contracted players at the club now.

Someone who walks into the dressing room and the players immediately respect him and want to do well for him.

These things are sometimes hard to determine, and it isn't an easy decision.

And we have to be realistic about what we can offer money wise so for me as long as the above is fulfilled I will be supportive for at least 2 games :)

Gary Owers Steps Down

I am one of CO's strongest critics. BUT that statement was something I didn't expect to be honest.

Good luck to GO in the future and hopefully CO will appoint someone who can re-invigorate our season.

Does seem that CO does want promotion then :) Which I doubted.

A very good decision and it now does make me feel like going to a few games home and away.

Yorkieandy wrote: 08 Sep 2018, 22:32 Of course he's not going to tell you that he's NOT trying everything he can to turn things around is he? With all due respect to you Nick and i don't wish to offend you but part of the problem at Torquay is some fans simply being too nice and trusting for too long whilst people responsible for the clubs continued demise only need to trot out a line or two in casual conversation and they are believed and given far too much rope when it is rarely warranted.

It's the way i'd prefer the world to work though for sure. Everyone who says something genuinely meaning what they say and being straight down the line but human beings aren't straightforward and they often lie, cheat and manipulate in order to curry favour and divert flak.

Again though Nick and to other fans. No criticism intended. We all think differently .
Exactly!! Unfortunately in this world being too nice just doesn't work. I would guess we would all like it to be different but its not!

Hit Osborne where it hurts, boycotting is the only way to bring about change.

Cash is king to Osborne , if isnt coming through the turnstiles changes will have to be made.

Unfortunately with 1400 ish fans turning up every home game, even when the product is consistently shite, why change it.

No but with the loans each year, and I stress "loans" it probably does. If the attendance drops the loans increase, which means more pressure as almost certainly no one will pay million plus for a conference club if it gets to that.

Perhaps the penny is actually beginning to drop with some on here.

TUST should be making plans for AFC Torquay I will be contacting them as a member.

Those still going should now boycott.

Nothing is guaranteed, but for God sake lets do something. This is just painful!

standupsitdown wrote: 06 Sep 2018, 08:32 Osborne does not build stadiums so if he gets the freehold TUFC will cease to exist in any recognisable form. He simply has to be stopped.

Without the freehold he will have no use for the club. Either he puts it into administration, we are relegated three leagues but reform as an AFC, or he is persuaded to cut his losses and sell for a little more than he’d get from administration – which can’t be that much.

Either way we can then have a fan owned club. This must be run according to its means but with our support there is no reason why it can’t survive and progress in the way that the likes of Aldershot & Hereford have. Even in minor leagues fans would turn up if the team was moving upwards. As has been said, the difference is that other clubs are run by chairman who are in it for football not property.

I’ve no idea what players get paid but say 15 players get £40,000, that’s £600,000 / year. Halve wages by going part time and there’s the £300,000 saved.

The fans and town would need to get behind the club. If necessary an appeal could be made to fans throughout the country to fund a buyout – other clubs have done this.

The only future is stopping Osborne getting the lease, getting him out and staying at Plainmoor. Fans mustn't be taken in by his promises. Osborne has no interest in Torquay United and will kill the club.

Southampton Gull wrote: 06 Sep 2018, 09:11 That's almost exactly as I see it. I'm not sure why any of us on here given what we know of his history even entertain the notion of a new stadium. We're either staying in our fit for purpose stadium until he pulls the plug or he'll get his hands on it and do what he always does, string the fans along until he sees through the land grab deal and then leave us all high and dry. The events on the pitch are secondary for now, we should all be focussing on coming up with the funds to rescue the club WHEN he stitches us up. Osborne is still swaying certain sections of the fan base with all these ridiculous claims for the future, the only thing in our future is the demise of the club we all love.

NOW is the time to start preparing, in fact we should have started the second he took the club by default. I fear the fans that are capable of leading the drive to secure the safety of the clubs future are already too old and battle worn to summon up the energy to do what is necessary. Let's not fool ourselves, we're more likely to end up as a fan owned club than one with a benevolant Chairman so it makes sense to me to start raising the funds now for the fight ahead. If we could get the club on a sound financial footing then in time perhaps that benevolant Chairman could be found. There's a lot of fighting to be done before that becomes a possibility, isn't it time that the more knowledgeable amongst us come together and set things in motion? Are TUST up for it? I hope so but they need more people driving us forward.

Shangull wrote: 05 Sep 2018, 20:40 There are already excellent artificial pitches in the local schools. The restriction of use of Plainmoor would involve Plainmoor becoming Westlands sporting area which would prob include an artificial pitch and sale of Quinta for housing. Given Plymouths attempts at using Home Park for concerts and the low disposable income for these events at Plainmoor previously and their lack of success there's no clear route to financial success in this. Given the track record of GI the best route is prob to close the door, let GI stop investing and let's start from scratch and resurrect ourselves through community/supporters group ownership. in short it's a bloody mess but the reality is that it's probably impossible to run the club at any profit that would interest a genuine business person. if it had a chance someone would have stepped forward rather than the on going attraction of cowboys.

I would start and say that no one can for see the future, so its just guess work.

But my chosen option is 3b - Cannot guarantee anything but for me boycotting several months ago MIGHT and I say might have started the process towards that goal. Will that happen no, because as far as I can see most (excluding a few on here and the few hundred who don't go anymore) obviously don't agree.

But its a shame because I an willing to risk it, because the other options above except maybe 3c are terrible.

Torquay United v Hemel Hempstead Town, Saturday 1st September 2018

Would like to say well done for the result. Wasn't there and reading the posts it could quite easily have been the other way around. The worry is that it was seemingly inspired by 2 loanees.

"P.S. I am also going to secretly raise a glass to Clarke Osborne for his sheer audacity of fobbing us off with images based on a stadium built in India ten years ago as the 'Future of Torquay United'." I think that shows how unrealistic and improbable the whole project is.

"Maybe the secret to success would have been loaning the whole of Bristol City's U23's for the season" Hahaha not a bad idea

Be interesting to know how many on here comment quite assertively about matches but don't actually go. I think it would be good practice to divulge first when commenting if you actually went. Brucie supports Exeter anyway, he made that statement years ago.

There will be no action at all, its TUFC.

Maybe we should hang the guy who through the coffee. So for some of you its life imprisonment for chucking coffee at some one, ridiculous.

Whoever it was should apologise and lets move on for f sake.

Go G.O!!

You are always going to get stick as a football manager, ah unless you manage TUFC of course.
GO is the worst manager we have ever had, that's a fact.
Unless you have been on the moon, we are at the lowest tier of football this club has been AND we cannot still score.
GO was part of the relegation to this tier, he has a team that is full-time, and most if not all our opponents are part-time.
Some players were ignoring him on Monday, and some actually answering him back. So he has lost some if not all of the squad.
How f ing low or incompetent do you want this to get before the fans start to react, they are in fact the customers.
If you don't get results in football as a manager your job is on the line, unless its this setup it seems, quite extraordinary.
I don't think you can label TUFC fans as being inpatient, for Gods sake this demise has been going on for years.
