The responsibility is with those who'll be at the club long term, the owners and the fans, to ensure nothing that damages the future of the club takes place - but I suspect it's beyond that stage already.

Why do you assume I live there?Awayday wrote: Oh come on be fair, Crawley is a sh&t hole. For my sins I know it quite well being my brother in law lives there and my own brother lived there for a while. I do believe you have some Muslim guy going around hacking people with a machette at the moment. Also the Broadfield estate....hhhhhmmmm gorgeous. Although you do have that nice park with the big lake (ideal for pike fishing) and the petting farm thing. Although even the pub there has now closed down and boarded up.
At least you still have the flight path I guess.....
I love Torquay fans coming over all la-di-da. You live in Devon FFS. Ha ha. You do realise that the old 'English Riviera' thing is a piss-take? I've always found visiting Torquay is a bit like expecting a BMW for Christmas but ending up with a Daewoo. A knocked-off Daewoo that has no soul between the months of September and May, and at all other times of the year is stuffed with smelly Northerners, or Southerners will so little money they can't afford something better.
This line from Wikipedia sums it up nicely:
Jesus Christ.Unemployment in Torquay is high at 6.8% – this compares with 3.9% for Devon, and 5.0% for England as a whole.[15]
Many locals were employed in the Pontins holiday centre before it was sold off.

That's more like it. Someone's grown some bollocks instead of quoting (incorrect) stats.royalgull wrote:There is that numpte, I just don't like the fact Crawley are a complete nothing club that have come into some money and now act billy big time. Their average gate last season 1004. Nice. This year another 1500 or so people have turned up, funny that since they've come into some money.
900 tickets sold for Torquay, thanks for the money chaps appreciated. Again peculiar when on last season's evidence you didn't get that through the home turnstiles. Got to take away crowds into consideration there. And whilst altrincham may have brought 30, Luton, Oxford, Cambridge etc would have swelled those numbers.
I genuinely wish you absolutely no luck whatsoever, and when you are bust in 4 years, nobody in the footballing circle will give a toss, none more so than the folk of Crawley who'll all be travelling down the motorway to help fill Falmer for Brighton.
Bravo.
See you Sat.

i went to crawley in the Conference, about 400 Gulls there in a crowd of 800 odd. Then in the home game, There were more people in the Crawley town dug out than there were in the away end.
Absolute joke club living well beyond their means and will be bust within 3-4 years once their owners realise they can't get further than League 2.
The last year our ave attendance was below 1,000 I doubt you were even born... if your mental age is anything to go by.

How do you explain then the fact that our average attendance in 04/05 season was 2,017? Did we tell all of those fans to clear off and recruit new ones?MidDevon wrote:I might be from Devon but I can count to 250!
even your own website says you had under 700 for a couple of conference matches just 2/3 years ago
The point I was making is a valied one, the vast majority of your supporters on Saturday week would have watched Crawley for less than 3 years, most less than a year.
Once again I would like to point out that breathing in too much avaiation fuel can tarnish your memory!
Idiot.
And you accuse us of arrogance? Be delighted to alleviate you of all that smugness in eight days' time.

That's rubbish as well. There are thousands of non-league clubs. Any club even in the top 100 should be counted as 'big' in comparison to the total number.tufcgull wrote: and there is only one reason .. money.

Amen to Numpte's argument. All we've had all season are bitter, sniping, snide, jealous opposition fans keen on picking holes in attendances, the town, the type of beer we serve. People need to get over it, accept without prejudice a financial situation that any club in their right mind would welcome (if they know the truth about where the money comes from and the securities that are in place) and realise that football is all about 90 minutes on the pitch. As, indeed, will be proven next Sat.

I think you'll find we're refered to as a 'big club' in the context of non-league football, and rightly so.cambgull wrote: We are still a small club, dont worry, we've never really had ideas above our station. I'd love you to point me to the Crawley fan who regards us a big club compared to anyone at League One level or above.
Go on then...

Crawley average attendance this season: 1,700
Torquay average attendance this season: 2,500
If we're a "very small club", what are you? A 'rather small club', a 'pretty small club'...?

Re: Tickets please
Not sure about your abacus there. We haven't had an average home attendance of 250 since before the 1950s when Crawley was little more than a large village. The old ground you refer to always had crowds of around 500-600, rain, sleet or shine, up until our departure in 1997. Maybe you were one of the nerds to take in a Dr Martens Cup game?MidDevon wrote:I visited Crawley's old ground just before they moved whilst working away. The crowd that night was barely 250 poor souls.
I was also at Tiverton Town v Crawley Town in the FA CUP about 6 years ago. They bought 350 to Devon that day!
The point I am making is that Crawley fans should remember that the VAST majoriy of them never bothered going before. Being a Crawley fan is a new thing, some may even say they are jumping on the band wagon, and the massive majority of their fans have no idea what supporting a football team is about.
They are still a very small club in a very massive catchment area. The sprawl of Crawley and Horsham is certainly bigger than little Torbay.
They should in theory be getting the same sort of support as Yeovil used to get in non league...they don't because they have no foundations, and if they build their house too high, it could come tumbling down.
I hope that does not happen as those 250 fans wo have supported them in the past will still be there asking where did their footy club go.
I'd be interested to see what the ave attendance is over 15 years at Broadfield and would guess it's about 1,200. And yes, it's a large catchment area, but one that's already full up with Chelsea, Palace, Tottenham and Arsenal fans. Do you really think that Chelsea fans live in Chelsea?
You evidently need to read up on the new town movement to know why a large proportion of the Crawley public support other teams and only come out for the big games. That said, times are changing.
We'll just let the players do the talking on the pitch if it's all the same with you...

Re: crawley it is then..
A lot of you are belittling the support of a team whose average attendances are up 75% on last year, and who, the last time we played, were still in the midst of the post Majeed malais that saw us lose half of our fanbase.
You re on a different planet if you think we ll bring small numbers. This is our best cup run ever and people are well up for it. From early chats I genuinely expect us to bring 1,000 minimum.
As for matters on the pitch, already beaten Swindon away and Derby at home, so a trip to Plainmoor doesn t hold any fear for us at all given that we re by far the best team in the Conference this year. I fear you may get a nasty surprise, and given some of the arrogance already on show on this forum it will be richly deserved!
As for the TV thing, I can t see it, not with you guys having home advantage.

Not being 'up' for getting to the 5th round of the FA Cup. Hmmm okay.cambgull wrote: Really?!
I think we should probably worry about getting through each round before we worry about winning the one after. In all honesty, I really cant see Crawley as being up for it. They must be pretty disappointed by getting us in the next round and that could work in our favour. This is probably our best chance of getting to the 5th round ever.
