Arabs buy Rovers

The Al-Qadis look like the real deal as far as football owners go.

They haven't made any brash predictions about getting to The Champions League in 5 years and all the other guff that other owners come out with.

They've stated that they aren't going to be splashing ridiculous amounts of cash on players, but are going to invest in getting a proper infrastructure in place, by building a much needed "World Class" stadium, and also planning for the future by investing a top class academy.

There is a real feel good factor at The Gas at the moment, since the takeover we have won 5 on the spin, and are on course for back to back promotions.

The future looks bright.

Nathan Blisset

Hi Gulls.

Just wanted to say it's great to see Bliss banging in the goals for you.

He's such a lovely bloke and it's good to see him enjoying his football again.

Has he signed permanently for you?

Anyway good luck, it's looks like you'll be safe from the drop now.

And well done Bliss :)

Torquay United v Bristol Rovers match thread

Hello Gulls

Looking forward to todays game, Hopefully it will be an exciting spectacle! With a win for The Gas of course

We have got a few players back that we have missed in recent weeks/Months, notably Matt Harold and Mark McChrystal which have been a big boost

With our injury's clearing up we should have the squad capable of pulling away from the bottom, A new winger and a new striker in January will do very nicely though Wardy

I am going to go with a 1-0 Gas victory :)

Good luck for the rest of the season, and I sincerely hope you get away from the bottom

Wouldnt it be great for those Cobblers to go?

All the best, British Gas

After they've sold out their away allocation and put a few hundred in the home end I wouldn't be surprised to see them outnumber the home fans at every away game next season.
Why are you all being rude and grumpy?

I made a little light hearted comment, which has obviously got the majority of your goats up

A few have realised I was only messing about, but it has gone over most of your heads

Pompey hoardes wont turn up in their thousands, dont be silly

We have had Leeds, Forest, Norwich, Southampton, Leicester visit the Mem in recent years, who are better supported than Pompey, and we have never had away fans in home area's

It doesn't normally happen at most grounds, the only places I recall it happening is at Plainmoor, Exeter, Cheltenham and Yeovil, normally because home areas have not been sold out and Gasheads have taken advantage of that by buying tickets in the home areas

What Rovers have done in the past is increase the away allocation by giving them a section of terracing that is usually reserved for segregation

If Torquay were anticipating a large away following then wouldn't of it been sensible to allocate a block of The Bench or whatever for Gasheads?

Clubs like Walsall, Oxford, Swindon have all done this for Gasheads in the past

It wouldnt of affected the attendance would it? It was 500 or so below capacity

Anyway, Like i said I was only trying to be lighthearted, it obviously backfired on the majority of you, no offense was meant by it

I will look forward to another visit to plainmoor next season

If we are still in the same division in 2015, then you will be able to bring 2.5k of your own supporters to The UWE Stadium :-D

Re: Joke police

If Gasheads were taking the piss, then thats unfortunate

But in all honesty you need to blame your own club for that, for letting them in the home end

I know of a couple of hotel owners who supplied Gasheads with tickets in return for getting more people to stay in Torquay for the weekend

Why are you all getting so upset?

I agree with you, I made a little joke and you have all gone mental!

They did not, they spent the second half winding up Torquay fans, standing up, singing and waving at the other Rovers fans, taking the piss. If we had gone down today, things would have got very difficult indeed. I am surprised at what the police say, this does not make good reading at all.

And f**k off British Gas, you are truly a w**ker of the first order.

Thank you for your kindness Andy

They have a justgiving page where you can make donations http://www.justgiving.com/craig-sam

They have managed to raise £538 so far and are hoping to raise in excess of £3000

Once again, many thanks for your generosity, it is very much appreciated

Re: Capital One League Cup

Yeah I realised after I wrote it, that it wouldn't be the case, it will go to the highest placed Premier League team instead.

That scenario only happens in The FA Cup

Fair play to Bradford

Villa are an embarrassment to The Premier League

If Chelsea make a comeback and win the tie tomorrow then Bradford will be playing in The Europa League next season :)

Re: Rovers get new stadium?

It is hard to predict the future Richinns

I am sure mine and Kinky Johns predictions will differ somewhat, Gasheads and Shitheads rarely agree

Now The UWE Stadium has been given the green light it should see Rovers fortunes change, obviously avoiding the dreaded drop to The Blue Square is a must and all our attentions must go towards not letting that happen, once that is avoided then from the sale of The Mem, Rovers will have the funds available to push to get out of this awful division

After that who knows? The thing with this stadium development which is unique from any other is that in conjuction with The UWE the stadium will finance itself and Rovers will be debt free, which should leave plenty of funds available to attract far better calibre players without heaping debt on the club

So in the next 5 years hopefully Rovers will be in The Champioship, it may seem daft, looking at our current predicament, but you only have to look at the impact new stadiums have had on the likes of Swansea, Reading, Hull and Brighton and even smaller clubs like Wigan, those clubs are the benchmark

People make comparisons with Darlington and Coventry of how things have gone wrong with stadiums, but they are 2 completely different scenarios, those were built with no thought process behind them, and crippled both clubs with huge debts

As mentioned above The UWE and Bristol Rovers have a unique partnership

So my prediction would be Rovers in The Championship(Delusional? Only time will tell)

As for our red friends, I will let Kinky John fill you in with his predictions, but I will tell you that City are riddled with massive debts, due to them spending way beyond their means, with money they dont have, if they get relegated this season then they will have to trim the wage bill massively due to the wage cap, and could see them struggle big time, Steve Lansdowne's interest is waining fast due to him losing millions year after year, bailing them out! The future could be bleak, again we will just have to wait and see

How's things Dave? Hope all is well and The Trust is still going strong?

I will happily put another wager on with you for when we visit Plainmoor :-D
