Captaining the side tonight. A credit to his family and his profession.
Good shout NickGull, and he has scored as well, stronger man than me.

Feel very sorry for him, his family and the poor little lad.

Puts things into perspective.

NickGull wrote:Could be better, KJF. We haven't won since the first weekend in September. Spineless performances, moreso on our travels, at Shrewsbury - I was there and I've never seen a Torquay side look so defeated, there was no fight or anything, poorest I've ever seen. And now we seem to enjoy conceding goals so much that we've conceded 9 in a week, (2-5 then 4-1 today), which isn't good enough, obviously. We're slipping down at a fairly alarming rate in my opinion, and I can't see where the next win is coming from, personally. We have home games against AFC Wimbledon, who lost 5-2 at home today so we'll probably get the backlash on Tuesday), and Hereford, who sit 23rd, I think. We need 4/6 points out of these two, just to stop the slide. The feelgood factor has diminished around the club, as has the winning mentality - that was one thing Buckle had instilled while here, and it's something I miss, if I'm honest.

Im hoping for your sake that this is your bad run for the season that all teams seem to get and that things start improving for you soon. I hope this primarily because your a really good set of guys but just as importantly because Ive got some cold hard cash on you finishing above Bristol Wotsits.

Oh, and well done for also spotting my fiendishly well hidden message in the original post that was masquerading as a story of childhood trauma. Id have gotten away with it if it wasnt for you meddlin kids. :-D

McInnes shone in a poor league (the utter p**h i have to watch week in week out) with the supposed big two Celtic and Rangers in a spot of bother themselves, ones under-preforming and the others facing administration, with their owner suing the beeb. Don't get me wrong though the guy has got natural talent in terms of management but your directors are taking a bit of a risk. The reason I say this is because BC is only his second management position, and although gaining promotion to the SPL back in 09 and retaining that status, its all he's really done of note! For me he's still a rookie sorry but thats just my personal view! Here's a wiki page bout him to back my stats up - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_McInnes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Thats a fair shout Scottish Gull, to be honest I didnt know anything about the guy until we were linked with him. The problem is I think all the potential candidates we had for the job (Mark Robins definately, Dave Jones and Sean O' Driscoll possibly, maybe) came with a certain degree of risk. Its produced alot of hope amongst many City fans but like you say, he is very much a rookie in the managerial business. I suppose at the moment at least we cant get much worse. Its going to be interesting.

I think you have been quite charitable with your description 'a spot of bother', we have been utterly appalling. Whether we can turn it around will depend on what the new boss can do and if he has the ability to spit shine and polish a t*rd. Tomorrow will be interesting as we are already 5 points from safety. Lets put it this way, I wouldnt rush down to the bookies to put money on us getting promotion. :-D

Hows things going for you guys?

Kinky John's Drunken Storytime

Can I ask you all please to gather round, sit down, relax, take the weight off...Uncle Kinks is going to tell you all a little story about favouritism and fairness.

Are we all ready? Ok then, here we go. Take a look at the picture below: (edit, I havent got a clue if you can see the picture or not)

Thats me and my brother in our teens and I know what your thinking, yes!!..we are a good looking pair of mofo's, thing is, my brother (on the left) is a bit slow, isnt quite as handsome as me and has a serious inferiority complex. My mother adores him though, much more than me. I think she felt guilty for dropping him on is head as an infant, she believed she was at fault for all his problems so he always got preferential treatment.

When it was his 13th birthday he was given a Sega Master System, I never got snazzy presents like that...I thought to myself "this isnt fair"...I chose my moment carefully, approached my mum and asked her if I could have a Sega Mega Drive for my birthday, her response was "(sigh)yeeeeees darling" so I punched the air with delight. 7 months later, on my birthday, I rushed downstairs to unwrap my first ever computer games console and what did I find...F*** ALL!! Nobody remembered my birthday again so I thought "sod this load of old b*ll*cks!" and turned to Cider...yummy yummy Cider. The moral of this story is something about treating people equally or stuff along those lines. Capeesh!

yours

As for Bristol C*ty, yes you are correct they were in the top flight, but they did it with money they did not have and lasted 2 years, and within 5 years they were bankrupt and languising rock bottom of the whole football league. Firstly, hope your feeling better BritishGAS

Secondly, I agree that we have spent too much money in the pursuit of top flight football and that if Lansdown ever decides to pull the plug we are in deep sh*t, however when we were last in the top flight (weve been there twice btw) we lasted 4 years not 2. I know its not the first time that you have blatently lied on here but do a bit of research mate cos at the end of the day, it may not be much to write home about but its better than y..

Re: New Bristol Rovers Match thread

My brother-in-law came round to Kinky Towers this morning (gashead but nice lad). After I had tethered him to the fence he gave me his lowdown on events at the Minimal ground yesterday. In a nutshell "ref was crap, fair play to Torquay they played well though and their fans were loud as f*ck, gave as good as they got mind, can I eat this funny looking mushro...".

City and the Gas dispatched with ease in recent weeks, Torquay is the new Southwest footballing powerhouse perhaps?

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Im gonna listen to us get hammered by Cardiff. Dark clouds over Brizzle.

Congrats Gulls :-D

Southampton Gull wrote:Shocking start mate, fancy doing a report for us?
Shocking is a good word for it Dave (if you dont mind me calling you Dave), shambles is a better word though.

Its been clear for a while to pretty much every City fan that we are seriously weak in defence, for what ever reason we havent brought anyone in to improve our back line (imo we need 2 quality defenders to do this) and if we dont do it soon we are going to struggle this season. As we have Pitman and Stead up front I think now is the time to cash in on Nicky Maynard and bring in players of a similar mould to Stephen Caulker who was brilliant for us at the back last season.

Of course you always hope for the best at the start of a new season but given our glaring problems at the back many of us feared this type of result, we didnt start off too badly in fact on the overall balance of play I think 3-0 slightly flattered Ipswich however 2 bad mistakes by David James and Keith Millens reluctance to change things around until it was too late contributed to our downfall. For the second year in a row we start the season with a 3-0 defeat at home, last year it was Millwall and whilst Ipswich are on paper a better side what worries me is that we will face much better teams this year.

Here is a pictorial guide of my Saturday:

How do feel about your first game mate, are you happy with the fight Utd showed to pull yourselves back from being 2 down or do see it as 2 points dropped?

Good Luck, 'innit'!

Does what it says on the tin.....As a Bristol City fan and occasional visitor to this forum I would like to wish you good luck for the forthcoming season.

For those of you coming up to Bristol next week have a safe trip, Gasheads arent a bad bunch if truth be told and they will no doubt make you feel welcome.

And if we cock it all up this season and make an utter pigs ear of things like we were threatening to do last season we might see you at Ashton Gate next year.

You never know.

Cheers. (D)

Re: PSF: Torquay United vs Bristol City

Well done today lads!

I couldnt make it in the end, my wife isnt too well so me going off on a jolly to the seaside wouldnt have been too wise. It looks like we put out a strong side so this result should bode well for you, friendly or not you've got to beat what's put in front of you and most of those City players will be lining up in the Championship next month.

Im a tiny bit gutted because obviously I want to see City win every game we play even when there are no points at stake however, on the other side of the coin, I hope this result today combined with more 'friendly' wins will give TUFC confidence for the new season and hopefully see you make a strong start to the new campaign. We obviously have a lot of work still to do. Still, on the plus side, I think you beat us 3-0 last year so I suppose we have progressed :rules:

Fair play to you, Cheers guys (D)

I must admit Im not familiar with 1 and 2 however my mother in laws, latest husbands father (follow that?) lives in Brixham and supports both Torquay and the Gas. He's mentioned Robin Stubbs to me in the past.
