Re: Our own Anthem
Not sure if it would work during the game but read the second half of my post and click on the last youtube link. That you could sing along too before the game and its short and sweet.

Re: Our own Anthem
I always like to hear Robert miles children before the game. Always thought that was our adopted anthem. Great little song for the build up to a game.
Avicii's "you make me" makes me think of Torquay, just listen to the start of the song... I hear it as... we are one, one for sure. All united, we want some more woohoooo you make me! Can anyone else think of a line to go after that? Heres the original.

Re: Richard Hancox
Now you say that I vaguely remember the gesture he made to the popside and that he was very much disliked. Mind you it must have been when I first started going to games, when he seemed to get jobs made out of thin air and being told the story behind it all. I remember myself not being his number one fan.Neal wrote:He was married to Batesons daughter and most people thought, me included he was not that good a footballer. He then got jobs such as stadium manager, yes stadium manager and we were not convinced he was the right person for the job, if we actually needed a stadium manager at all.

Feel free to remove this if this shouldn't belong on the main board. I've just been looking at youtube and it looks like he(I presume it is Richard Hancox) has uploaded a few videos, from when he was at Torquay. Heres his channel

just thought a few maybe interested as there are some good clips of Plainmoor and a cracking over head kick that even Rooney would be proud of. Anyone got any memories of the goals?

Re: Torquay in the Prem - Dream or Disaster?
For me its more the Premier league as a whole that I dislike and not really the players. I agree that PL players are paid well over the top and that money put into grass roots football would do wonders but to tarnish all of the players the same would be wrong. I think there are a fare few that do a lot of good and are complete opposites to the players you mention. I would thought that a good hand full of players even in leagues one and two couldn't care less about the club, fans etc and are a up there own arse and Torquay have probably had a hand full during the past.
What I dont like is that sponsership has just distroyed top flight football. Look at Serbia and the fine they recieved for "inproper conduct" (No mention of racism), compared to Nicklas Bendtners fine for showing a companies name after scoring. This shows to me how much sponsers have introduced crazy amounts of money to top flight football in general and not just the PL. People talk about salary caps but that would have to happen world wide, what players are going to stay in the PL with a salary cap. The money would just end up in someone elses back pocket.
To awnser your question, it would be fantastic for Torquay and Devon in general to have a PL economy wise, but to have to put up with all the crap that comes with it i.e high ticket prices (a cheap ticket for Arsenal is £62?), all seater staduims, prawn sandwich fans and Sky putting your fixture list together. So at present, I would say no.

To the "casual" fan I would say bring what ever yellow pages, balloons etc you can and make as much noise as possible!! Maybe be should have a shout out on the main board for any of the above to be brought along to the game?Parry wrote:Oh right thats good! Good luck to them. But still, I think the more 'casual' fan should also get involved by yellow pages cuttings, balloons etc.

Re: Torquay vs Exeter- December 22nd
A group has been set up Parry to improve the atmosphere. Their first game was Dagenham at home and I've got to say it looked good. There has been a bit of money put in the pot, to order a large number of flags. So there are ideas for the city game. Maybe Walshy will be on to give you an update, Heres their website.Parry wrote:I personally can't wait for this fixture. It's looking like Exeter will just about sell all their allocation so they should make a good noise from the away end. Hopefully the pop side will swell a bit for this game aswell.
Anyone with any ideas for enhancing the atmosphere, i.e balloons, yellow pages, songs etc? Lets make some noise!

Anys idea would be welcome, I would of thought.

I was just about to suggest that! Some great clips from their video, just to remind everyone.happytorq wrote:They should use the first 45 seconds of "The Bay" by Metronomy, as in intro.

Fair play, probably better than doing it off football manager etc. He doesnt look to bad but we will have to see how he fits in.

Don't take this personly but was some of your data off football manager/FIFA?cambgull wrote:Not the most amazing scoring record but seemed to be used on either wing for Inverness. Some things that do strike me is that he's got good acceleration although I don't think his top speed will be a huge amount faster than anyone with decent pace and he seems to have a very good first touch with decent instincts. He has been playing against better opposition though so he could be very good in League 2. Hopefully something will come of it as he seems to be a decent player in the Wilfred Zaha kind of mould, likes to hang back and run at players.

Re: Ready for criticism
It's not about filling the staduim but using the fans that you've already got. In the spanish game you mention, I'm sure it wasn't a full ground but you can pretty much garentee that there were a group of supporters that stood for the whole game. who gave it 110% for 90 minutes and had some sort of visual display for when the players came out and during the game. Yes some English clubs do the same but its no way near the standard that you will see in Spain, Italy, Germany etc. Im not saying that English clubs will ever be on par with other european clubs but if we can all convert are passion for the club into singing and visual displays. It will not only look good but people might enjoy it whilst joining in and it might even get results on the pitch!stevegull wrote:I disagree with the criticism of English football as a whole. Sure, the atmosphere at Plainmoor isn't always amazing but if you look elsewhere in England then I think we put the other European supporters to shame.
For example, I was watching some terrible Spainish team play Barcelona in La Liga the other day. And this fairly poor Spanish side (sad i forgot the name) couldn't even get close to filling their stadium. And this is a common problem in Spain's top league. Even when the 'big boys' of Barcelona and Real Madrid come to town they can't fill their stadium. Then look at teams like Blackpool and Reading who have risen to the top flight and filled their stadium consistantly, even when Wigan come to town!
I also think the Stoke fans represented English football fans tremendously well in the Europa League last season. They were loud to the very end, even when Villareal played them off the park. They were happy to be there; and loving every moment.
Sure some clubs like Wigan don't fill their ground but I think this problem is far less common in England. Foreign players and managers always make reference to playing in front of packed stadiums as their reason for loving the English game.
Back to Torquay though and it would be nice for a better atmosphere and I wish you every success; no matter how hard it will ultimately be. Just make sure you don't alienate those 'old boys' that have followed our club for many years. They are the lifeblood of our club.
