Re: Martin ling

Admired her taking it on and trying to be honest. She could have done the whole politician thing and spun/reframed all the questions or spouted a load of BS but...well unfortunately, it was embarassing for the club. The failure to answer questions altogether and the lack of professionalism don't make us look great to prospective signings.

The club clearly owes Thea a great debt and I'm glad she's stepping up to the plate. She's obviously well outside her comfort zone but I'm sure she'll learn, hopefully quickly!

Re: Ling v Buckle

Sorry if ive missed this on another thread but were the rest of you as stunned as I was to see just how low bucks was prepared to stoop in his recent interview with radio devon? I like a joke about buckle but also believe its old news and should be put behind us. I guess its like getting a cracking new missus and banging on to her about your old one! Anyway, I found it refreshing then to read the headline of this interview suggested the mighty buckle was actually offering praise for his successor! Very humble indeed I felt, particularly in light of having lost his own job. I should of course have known better! As anyone who heard the interview will know, this was yet another selfish, self-inflated stunt to further the mans own (wilting) career. It basically claimed ling is doing a great job BECAUSE of the foundations buckle had laid. Rubbish. Paul buckle, you left this club in a complete mess and many fancied us as relegation candidates pre-season. The king of the berks didnt stop there tho, shining light on lings poor spell with cambridge after a good spell at orient, in an attempt to try and draw comparisons to his own success at torquay before his failing at rovers. So, praise for ling then? Hardly. A complete weasel of a man. Absolutely no class. To me a managers relationship with his fans is also important, not purely results and the honesty and character ling displays week in week out means hed have to go a hell of a way to put him behind buckle in terms of managers weve had. As ive said from Dingers first interview, I like the cut of the mans jib and that was before the results came! Buckle, shut your mouth and listen to how a manager like martin ling conducts himself-you have much to learn.

Re: Martin Ling

Clueless? Having had Lubos Kubic and John Cornforth at the helm, I think we'll take our chances with Dinger. Has done a cracking job so far in the face of cynicism (my own included) and very little time

Re: Truro City

It's a route. Only Truro maybe but you can as they say, only beat the teams in front of you and when added to the rest of our fine pre-season things are looking very good indeed. I think Martin Ling has done an incredible job in such a short space of time! All hail Martin 'The King' Ling!    :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:

The plans are done by the architects and are not affected by the replacement of the contractor. No plans will be changed/redrawn, the new builders just need to get their heads around them

Re: Grandstand delay

There are no worries on this. The contractors were wanting a big pot of cash set aside for the duration of the project and TUFC weren't prepared to do that. New contractors in and it will crack on as scheduled...

Re: Youth players

Looks good - hopefully they'll also update this to let us know about any players that we let go, instead of people looking back in a couple years time and trying to work out which ones have gone missing! Best of luck to all of them though, will be great to see some youth players finally making it to the senior team! :-D

Nice one. I'm happy with that. Fingers crossed Martin 'The King' Ling has amassed a half decent squad - quite an achievement given the general mood a couple weeks back!

Re: PSF: Torquay United vs Bristol City

Trojan 67 wrote: Agree with Dave, a very entertaining first 45 minutes. As alluded to in a previous post, Oastler is definitely a rightsided back four player. In fact, for the first half it was a 3-5-2 formation with Oastler still able to push forward to support down the right flank. Robertson in the central role and Ellis to his left looked comfortable. Where was Nico ? In the advanced wing back role and looked very sharp. Put in a superb delivery (as usual) for Ellis to head back across the box for Atieno to slam home. Yes please Dinger, give Taiwo a contract. Mansell and Lathrope worked hard in midfield and anyone who says Manse can't pass, he played a couple of first touch beauties yesterday.

Bobby in goal, to me, looked like a very fit Tommy Lawrence (The Flying Pig).
Got a good kick on him and quick to roll the ball out to Oastler. Dealt very comfortably and nonchalantly with a dodgy back pass under pressure.

McPhee worked hard down the right flank and whipped in a few crosses. He'll be a real threat in a more advanced central role. Billy as usual did his puffing best and held the ball up well. His weight will drop off as he now has competition in Bobby and Howe for all the pies.

Finally, there's Stevens. :@ To be fair, he had a reasonable 45. In particular, he cut in from the left and sent one just over the angle of bar/post. In another from the right, he chipped an advancing James and the effort fell just outside the post. I would like to see more of what Stevens can do down the right side because I know eventually, Mr Angry emoticon( :@ ) will appear on a regular basis if Stevens is only given the left flank.

To sum up the first half, the 3-5-2 formation restricted Bristol City's forward movement.

I'm off now for a fried breakfast, will be back with the 2nd half later. :engflag:
Ha, ha!

Put me in mind of Big Nev against the green scum some years back. 0-0 after the portly Welsh Wizard threw his frame about the goal for 90 minutes of backs-to-the-wall pressure down at Home Park! Lets hope Bobby can emulate 'Super Nev!'

Suggest we forward a copy of Metronomy's music video for their song 'The Bay' to McManus, and indeed any other potential siginings - they'll be down here like a shot!
