Re: Hereford United v Torquay United - 5/5/12

I have got to agree with gullintwoplaces, I could not believe some of what has been posted here, yes we are all entilted to our view, but please base it on fact.

Some observations;
To many I suspect forgot what it can mean when your season can depend on one game, we have been there, talk on this site about our winning easily , against a team who we beat easily at Plainmore, oh 1-0 last minute goal

Hereford were up for it, yes we lost yesterday, were we really that bad in the first half, poor but it appeared evey defensive error was punished, 10 minutes we were in contol, two errors had we are 2 down, but how did we not score from those corners then another error and 3-0.

Martin learned from Wimbledon, Howe off, he can only last 60 minutes in his current state, and go for it. If I can remember many years ago we called it attack against defence at school, we could and probably should have at least drawn that game.

We had commitment from all round the team; 10 players in ALL div 2 have played 45 or 46 games this season; 5 of them are ours!
Anybody who says they do not care or are not tying needs their head examaning!

We are one of the smaller clubs in this division who are doing xxxxxx well.

In summary;
If the players played the way some of the posters on here write we would be following Hereford; get behind the boys and support them, we are not talking about big time charlie's but blokes who are busting a gut for this club!

(Good I have got that of my chest now)

Re: MEMORIES

[quote="ROADRUNNER"]yes i remember all that, snow covered pitch on boxing day against the cornishmen beat them 2-1 in front of 15,000 ish crowd around 1968, quote]
68 or 69? yes - taken out by St John's Ambulance, woke in Teignmouth late no brakfast straight on the bus, xxxxxx cold, sitting under the stand as we scored, happy memories!

Others include; West Ham old boys, Bond & Brown, "Billy" Kitchener et al, missing one home game in 67/68 due to a Family Wedding and finding out it was on Match of the Day!!!

Who would have believed in those days; 5 Wembley's & 1 Old Trafford!

Right now let's create some new memories for the next generation, Hereford here we come!!!

Re: Oxford United v Torquay United - 9/4/12

Agree much of what Jeff reported.

The Eunan "offside" needs to be looked at on camera, whatever this shows, this was heading to be a potential season turning decision or rather an excuse that could have been used, "big" clubs get the decisions etc, but no after 25 minutes of we got it out the system and the 10 men showed great commitment to pull back a point. Perhaps Oxford not having a sub keeper helped but going 3,3,3 with Ellis up top sohed commitment of the highest order.

Well done Martin & the boys.

Re: Your best ever XI.

Based on the performances of the players when actually playing for gulls over last 45 years (not loanees}, my side would be;

GK; Mahoney (southall was past his best but would be on subs bench)

Full backs; Paul Homes & Billy Kitchener (Gibbs, Gurney & Baxter in the shake up)

Central Defence; John Benson, Matt Elliott, & Jimmy Dunne, (Benson playing in front of the other two) (Gritton, Saunders, Brown, Boulton, Moore, Thomas in the shake up)

Midfield 3; Rodney Jack, Alex Russell, Mark Loram,(Lee Sharp, John Smith, Mitchenson also considered!)

Front 2; Robin Stubbs & David Graham. (Cooper, possibly Lee but Roberts was only a loanee so not considered)

Can argue these as the 60's side gets better with age!!
