What Are You Listening To?

Martyr Defiled - **** awesome. The double kicks on the bass drum are magic! Sounds like a machine gun. Love the break bits inbetween too.

Sadly Phil, you haven't convinced me with the second tune. I'm all for calmer musical interludes but that one is a dull to be kind. ;-)

Well Done Wimbledon

Dave_Pougher wrote:Great performance, even (although it almost pains me to say it) Akinfatboy played well
Seen him twice already this season and he's been bloody awful. Just goes to show.

The pleasing thing for me about Wimbledon tonight and generally most of the cup games is that i think the English leagues are the most competitive in the world and there isn't as big a gigantic gulf between league 2 and the bottom of the Prem than you would at first think. At the end of the day it's 11 v 11 and usually the better players will come out on top but there are so many occasions when you can't really tell who are supposed to be the better. Usually it is the last third of games when the lower league players suffer from a lack of fitness and they get found out as they leave gaps.

Great to watch though. I think the FA Cup is slowly getting some of it's magic back, if not with giant killing but definately with more interest and more intriguing ties.

Ched Evans

There are so many interesting sub issues in the whole Ched Evans situation.

First of all is the fact that both the Sheffield United and Oldham Athletic boards actually came out and said they were unexpectedly surprised by the overwhelming feelings of anger towards them even considering employing Ched Evans. Nice to know that being completely out of touch is not exclusive to politics.

It has become a bit farcical but IMO the clubs who to this point have considered signing him have only pulled out due to the the threat of financial loss ie fans threatening not to up, sponsors threatening to cut ties etc and NOT because they at first felt a strong moral obligation to do so.

I also believe that if Evans was for example Messi or Ronaldo or any high profile Premier League player then he would find another Premier League club in an instant. Why? Because he would be too much of an asset to be lost and those big clubs could take the hit on sponsors pulling out / fans not turning up and easily find others to take their place.

Money talks in both instances and let's not kid ourselves that morals have a place in football anymore.

I've learned a lot from more enlightened forum members on here about similar cases, Luke McCormick for example i was particularly angry towards when he was released but if i am to be a fair man then both he and Ched are free to continue playing football. They have done their time and whilst i find both abhorrent the law is the law and they must be allowed to continue with their lives.

That said, no football club is OBLIGED to offer Evans a contract. He can ask around and try and get fixed up sort of like applying for jobs like postman or whatever and prospective employers aren't allowed to discriminate BUT they aren't obliged to give Ched a contract / interview either. That is not banning him or hounding him, just their own preferences.

If there is a club out there who are willing to risk it though then it would be very interesting to see fans reactions and how far associations with that club will be stretched.

So in my response to Gullscorer, i actually believe the main reason for clubs not signing up Ched is because of the potential lost revenue from sponsors etc and not because they have listened to complaints from fans and the world and his wife on social media.

Bring back Bobby?

Jarvo is still at the club but hasn't featured much at all since he was stupidly sent off for a two footed challenge in the home game with Shrewsbury in October. Russ Wilcox's debut may i add, not the best way to please the boss.

Until then he had been a fairly regular starter under Worthington although he never looked like scoring. His work rate was ok. He is not even on the bench nowadays and as i haven't read anywhere that he is injured i would have to suspect that Wilcox wants rid when his contract runs out in the summer.

Torquay.v.Alfreton Sun 4th

How did Mr Hawley play yesterday folks? Same old 'couldn't really give a monkeys' attitude or was he genuinely trying to earn his wages?

Did he get any abuse?

He's an interesting one is our Karl. A Knill signing yes but i actually think that it Hawley's whole attitude that stinks and not so much his ability. Having seen him many times (that goal up at Morecambe being my ONLY good memory if his time at Torquay) i had to seriously question his desire and application. Like many players that arrive at Torquay, they are maybe at last chance saloon and the fact that Hawley is now plying his trade in front of 600 people at Alfreton who are certain relegation fodder says so much about the man.

I really don't understand why players who are given this last opportunity (where did he bloody think he was going to end up if he failed at Plainmoor? Real Madrid?!) give up and waste it. It's like the heart isn't in it anymore. Hawley has ability but he pissed his career away many years ago and although you can perhaps blame Knill for not seeing the terminal downward decline in his career i think on this occasion the buck has to stop with the player himself.

A brief note about CH. Learning all the time i know but after the win over Halifax his team were being talked about as having belief and that play offs are a definate aim. Then he says he wants to win the FA Trophy for Thea despite resting loads of players.

The he blasts the team as 'rubbish' for their performance at Braintree whilst at the same time apportioning no blame for the result to himself, he not for the first time berates officials for poor performances apportioning no culpability at his door. Finally he publically blames Ajala as the reason why Torquay didn't beat Alfreton.

When he first took over i thought he was being too nicey nicey and that was partly the reason for him having no motivational effect on players. Now it appears he has gone the other way. If he takes the credit for the wins then he has to take the flak for the defeats instead of blaming players (young players under pressure as it is) , officials and the fixture calendar. Are there areas in which CH has to really sort himself out or is everyone still happy that he is a young manager doing a difficult job in tough circumstances?

Constructive thoughts anyone?

Not quite but i had quite a shock upon hearing this! :O

No offence to my fellow Yorkies but he's far too good for York and far too good for league 2 IMO. I don't quite know what happened at Posh. I know they used to go gung ho every week and leave gaping holes all over the shop at the back on a regular basis and i remember watching Posh highlights regularly and he would be really overworked and exposed time and time again due to bad defending. Still pulled off some awesome saves though. I just think he was partly made a scapegoat for this.

I want to see Bobby rediscover his immense Torquay form whether it be for York or whoever because he's such a great bloke, a hard working pro and of course he is Austrian. ;-)

Well, football is indeed a funny old game.

Anything but a bore draw.

We battered them for the whole game and the York keeper didn't have a real save to make. Gawd knows how they are in the top 8. I guess if their strikers don't fire then they don't either. Easily the worst side to come to Bootham Crescent this season.

Reuben Reid is like a cross between Rene Howe and a shit Diego Costa in manner and style. He was dreadful today. I thought Anthony O'Connor was pretty solid but overall they were totally devoid of any ideas whatsoever today. Completely clueless.

Credit to their fans though, they took around 550 ish and i didn't hear any booing or anything and i felt sympathy with them in the end because i and i'm sure you Gulls know all too well what it is like watching 90 minutes of clueless rubbish even without a man advantage and then having to make a long journey back home.

So overall, on the contrary. I really enjoyed the game. Surprising how much excitement can be gleaned from being a man down early on and expecting certain defeat to willing the team on to even try and win it in the end.

Can't say i'm surprised by your response. If one comes on the t'internet and offers up criticism then it's naive not to expect a bit of resistance so it was fully anticipated. I would most certainly have benefitted from THOSE words of wisdom these past few years but that said I would have hoped for a more resilient 'we'll show you' or 'we'll be back in the football league bigger, better, stronger and more together than ever' response but again, ultimately to me it doesn't really matter.

Here's hoping for a Gulls revenge mission against my near neighbours tomorrow. They only got 600 and odd for their home match recently so expect to be able to count their fans on one hand. Maybe two.

Oh and please don't let bloody Hawley score.

I hope you enjoy the game as much as i did today.

For what it's worth i respect you as a football fan with faith in his club and willing to sit through shit like Billy Bodin every week. As a human individual personally i don't like you despite having never met you but i cannot fault your commitment and dedication to TUFC. We can't get on with everyone on the planet can we? It's just that the seriousness of the plight of TUFC as of 3/1/15 transcends all petty grudges. TUFC need a safety net for when it collapses and i would hope that yourself and other stoic diehards will provide this. Initially though a realisation that such a thing is urgently required would be a good starting point.

Don't rely on others to get it right. Do it yourself.

You can still keep slagging me off. I'll be fine with that................so long as TUFC survive and prosper.

Post anything you wish in response to this and i shall not respond but i shall have a chuckle to myself purely because of samsara. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter.

oh no that didn't happen because i'm a TUFC supporter and i always will, gargs vs york, can only pray for a dull 0-0.

Cheers mate!

You happen to support a club that through every fault of it's own will not exist in 10 years time. Apart from about 3-500 pro-active diehards you have NOTHING to protect yourself from the inevitable. Disappearance from the footballing planet. Perhaps Plymouth will welcome you with open arms once you've realised this. I did try and rally folk in the community thread but as usual a lack of response. Carry on bickering with Bristol Rovers fans and trusting that the board know or even care what they are doing.

None so blind as those than won't see.

Move on like i have and admit that TUFC are a lost cause OR keep it zipped and get off your arse and give your all for them. Give your time, money, sweat tears and sanity and prove me wrong. Prove that you can motivate a core group of fans to revive a dying club and give those behind the scenes a massive kick up the arse. Make a difference instead of making babyish remarks on the internet.

Believe me Mr Roar. If only it was as simple as defecting because another club said nice things about me.

Bodin to ANYWHERE is surprising. :O

Shocking 'footballer'.

Anyway, i'm looking forward to seeing ex Gull Anthony O'Connor tomorrow when he plays for the gargs up at York. Thought he was one of the better additions brought in by THAT man. Apologies...still can't bring myself to mention or even type his name. Also i believe Reuben Reid spent a brief spell on loan at Torquay in 2007.

Torquay supporters are great in general but you are a total a-----e.
I wouldn't worry yourself Friendlygas. In 10 years Brucie might very welll be still be taking the piss out of you for being a non league club whilst he spends his saturday afternoons playing cribbage at the local wishing he still had a football club to go and watch.

Neal wrote:The refs aren only bad in the conference. your having a laugh!!!! Goto ANY fans forum of ANY club in ANY league and you will see the same moaning, blaming the ref and officials for not being consistent is a past time of all football fans who just cannot stand not winning!

Of course they make mistakes, but they do not single out Torquay Utd, some seasons you get a few more go against you, but it from a statiscal point of view it will work itself out over several seasons. Just like injuries do!
:goodpost:

Spot on Neal.

Anyone watching 'professional refs' in the Prem these past few weeks will see that the overall standard of officiating in ALL divisions in England is horrendous. Those who watch MOTD tonight keep an eye out for Liverpool's penalty decisions and some others. It's every week across the board - not exclusive to Torquay matches.

Having watched all bar one of York's home games this season i can also safely confirm that the refs in league 2 have been absolutely atrocious on nearly every occasion. Our Boxing Day game at Accy saw a York defender harshly sent off for which the crowd were going mental yet the ref somehow missed 2 pretty blatant penalties that Accy should have been given.

On this occasion these inconsistencies occured in the same game but bad decisions go FOR AND AGAINST EVERY team in football, just some sides are seemingly on the wrong end of more.

You just have to be balanced enough to see this and mature enough to accept it................................. =D

Perhaps congratulations for a hard earned point would serve CH and the team best (which to be fair to Brucie he did so - inbetween calling people 'twats' and 'feckin' idiots') and not more anger and rage against something that nobody can change. :scarf:

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!! :scarf: :scarf:
