Interesting turn of events. Exactly the same thing has happened here in Oz. The CEO (equivalent to chairman) of the Melbourne football club (aussie rules footy) stepped down today after the team was thrashed in the first 2 games of the season. The coach (manager) has kept his job. The reason given for the CEO leaving was the supporters lack of belief in his ability. I thought the buck stopped with the manager when team performance was woeful, but seems not. At least it only took the first 2 games of the season here, rather than many months for TUFC.

Secret squirrel stuff happens on boards I suspect. The fans are never given full disclosure.

Just thought I would share this to provide a comparison. :)

According to the OS, the directors are:

Simon Baker - Chairman
Cris Boyce
Mark Boyce
Thea Bristow
Tony Carter
Eric Coote
Ian Hayman
James O'Dwyer
Brian Palk
James Perry
Bill Phillips - Managing Director
Alex Rowe

That's a lot of cooks!

When I said in an earlier thread that the board are out of touch, Budleigh replied as follows

"In the main the directors are in touch with the fans; they are fans. Anyone who sits near a certain director in Bristows Bench would be in no doubt that he goes through the same emotions, with the same concerns, as the next supporter.
Indeed, has there ever been a time in the club's history when the directors where as accessible to the rest of the fan base as now?"

....and that is the problem, directors think they are in touch, the few fans close to them think they are in touch and yet the likes of myself and Plainmoorroar both think not

and this links very well into tauntongulls post who says, quite rightly, the inactivity has been startling

All of the Directors listed above are directors of other companies, most of several, and yet there is not one charismatic figure amongst them who can talk to the average supporter. Any well run board would have identified this long ago and considered it so important that someone to represent the fans would have a voice on that board.

It may be the case that the board are fed up with our inept team earning too much and would rather the team drop into the conference and go part time and stay in the black....whatever the case all is certainly not well and the rumours of a board room rift over the last 18 months could well be true.

However well or badly she does in the role, Thea couldn't have got off to a better start than by speaking out against cr*p PC terms such as 'Chairperson'

'general manager Andrew Candy assuming the role of chief executive' - Good news

If simon baker is shifting down why do we still need Phillips!!

Wow. A bizarre turn of events, and one that I'd have thought was best left until the end of the season, to ensure maximum focus on the next three games.

Very appreciative of all that Thea has done for us, but is now the time for someone who, as the 'Meet Thea' article says, will "hopefully catch on quick, and not score too many own goals"? I'm not sure.

Strange timing-a few days away from one of the most important matches in the club's history.
Why not wait until the end of the season? Will Andy Candy now be paid rather than volunteer his time as he does now?
Is the Thea Bristow appointment logistical-ie to place her in the key investment decision-making role given her stake in the club, with the Vice-chairs and CEO overseeing the day to day direction/decision making?

I'm genuinely struggling to see the logic in this decision. Why now, with three matches left? Just seems bizarrely random.
