Yeovil Town

I can remember when yeovil were a little club in the conference with a terrible ground on a sloping pitch, now look at them, they might just get into the Championship throught the play offs, but for a long time looked liek they might make automatic promotion, why am i bringing this up?

Well, it pains me, why can't United do this, look at the crowds yeovil are getting, in a town with surely les than half the population of Torbay. Do they have a very wealthy chairman, i confess i haven't researched this. They went up to league 1 and stayed there, something we haven't managed to do for 30-40 years.

Yeovil town season ticket was 40£ cheaper than one of our early birds for the bench, IMO that's ridiculous when you think that there is (very slight) possibilities of them being championship and us being non-league! mad!

the ones that get me are cardiff and swansea, both in league 3 in 2001 or 2004, now in the premier league, madness!!! haha, looking back thru the tables, we got promoted in 2003, swansea came up the following season as we dropped down again!

amazing seeing the fortunes of clubs who've shared berths with us, we're lucky in some ways, lloking at darlo, stockport, boston, halifax etc, but then again the two welsh teams, hull, peterboro, yeovil etc

They should be moved back to the Welsh leagues.... freeing up two relegation spots in League 2.... (((cough!)))

While we're at it, why don't we just remove all teams with more than 3 foreign players and totally annihilate our league system?

They both clearly have a lot more money backing them than we do though. Although i would absolutely love it if we could replicate Swansea, I mean, think about it, we must have close enough the same population to draw from, we're on the coast in a an area of beauty, just like them, and in a part of the country that is just as inaccesible. Why can't we do it too, aim high and think positive.

Not just Yeovil, i remember when Doncaster were in the conference with crowds similar to our own now.

Maybe the problem is that as a club we just lack ambition? Even though the last couple of seasons we made the playoffs, i never really got the feeling that the club genuinely wanted it.

Watching late kickoff the other night with Neil Warnock saying he would do what ever he could to support Plymouth and Torquay, when the presenter said to him "i guess it would be hard for you to turn down any offer from either club?" he replied something along the lines of, "no disrespect to Torquay, but Plymouth are a massive club with real premier league potential" In other words we have no ambition and no potential is what i basically got from what he said. League 1 is probably our limit, although the players have tried hard this season to reach a premier league.

Anyway, i'm just being bitter due to the fact that this season has been a nightmare. COYY!!

Liverpool can start by sacking Luis Suarez for his second biting offence, his first was whilst playing for Ajax. They won't of course, they will concoct some story to excuse them from getting rid of him. The Prem. League should also give him a lifetime ban from playing in their league. What a great role model for young kids to follow!!!

Thing is for Yoevil they clearly do not have alot of money, they had already closed the mini-soccer section of there youth set up, they have annouced now they are to close there entire youth set up completely to save money, which does not give them a platform to build from.

What will they do if actually when a big team comes along as they will and take Paddy Madden of them, Yoevil are surviving of a system that we may have to look at closely as a team with limited funds. The loan system, said many a time I am not a fan of it, but I now see it's the only way forward, carry on building 23 man squads of our limited funds we will go back to the conference sooner rather than later.

Will they benefit being in the Championship?

That all depends on them Danny, if they spend money they don't have trying to stay there, then the likely anwser is no.

If they work with what they have and manage to consolidate for a few seasons, then maybe they will. Who knows.

Even if Yeovil go up and come straight back down again, at least they can say they were in the Championship at least once in their history.

Given Torquay United's club history, I can't see the Gulls ever doing that. But I may be wrong..

For every Yeovil there are plenty of Coventrys, Portsmouths, Plymouths etc. If it was that easy every club would do it.

Whatever short-term mistakes the Board have made this season, you can't fault their long-term vision and investment. We have the infrastructure that if we ever did move up the divisions then we can compete. You always felt that when we went up under Leroy it was in spite of Bateson, not because of. At least we now have a platform off the pitch to succeed. We just need to get it right on the pitch now.

Hmmm, Yeovil. Well done to them, of course, and I take away from them absolutely nothing in what has been a great effort this year, but I think I'll reserve judgement on the question of why can't we do that when it's oh-so-simple until they have had a season in the Championship and not gone into administration. Have a look at Pompey, why, other clubs were asking, can't we do that, just go out and win the FA Cup. Well, the answer, it seems, is that Pompey spent money they didn't have. Same story with Plymouth. Yeah, Championship football, yeah, woo, go you Green Army, until it all comes crashing down and you're left staving off relegation to the non-league.

L2, with an occasional stab at L1 is where Torquay United belongs. Unless, from somewhere, we get another 20,000 people interested in coming to see us every week, we will never be a solid, in the black, Championship club. I most certainly do not want to make like Stockport or Plymouth and have a dozen years of horror and toil for the sake of one year of playing Leeds and Notts Forest. The juice simply isn't worth the squeeze.
