Is he not supposed to be the next big thing in goalkeeping? Did I hear we had some U17 international or whatever on our books? It's only a tiny fragment of a memory, but I'm sure it wasn't crack induced.

Yeah he's not been the best when I have watched him, I cannot see h ever being better than ricey. I just spoke to a player that said if ricey was in goal tonight we would have been ok. :(

I was there. We were terrible. Connor Thompson had a shocker for the last goal.

Surprised at the strength of the line up but the only players to come out with any credibility were Angus (who got a knock so went off) and Morris (to an extent).

None of the others looked out of place at that level, which is a shame considering the likes of Cruise, Craig and Macklin all played.

I thought Macklin made some good runs in the first half but was no where in the second, Craig didnt get on the ball as much as I would have thought. My outstanding player; for one I keep mentioning too in the U18, is Jake Hutchings- this lad is going to make it without doubt.

Bloody hell. Sodding C. Thompson the difference. At fault for three of their four goals. One of the worst goalkeeping displays I've ever seen. Cruise looked disinterested, Tommo and Mackers appeared to cause problems with their pace.
A 1-0 Torquay win somehow transformed into a 4-1 loss by a keeper and a bored left back.

To give cruisey some credit he had an injury last night and was asking not to be played but was put out there, he was struggling a bit.

I think that if Ashley yeoman was playing it may have been a different story, macklin has all the pace in the world but is sadly lacking a crucial element in football... A brain. If his pace cannot beat someone he has no plan b and so some extent the same could have been said of Thompson last night.

How did Jake Hutchings play in your opinion last night, I suppose it's hard to take anything out of a 4-1 defeat but when I have watched he has looked very comfortable. Speaking to people at the club they are saying that he will be part of the first team squad next year.

i shall enlighten you with the story of the infamous coombe match. i wrote this on another thread a few months back when indeed wivelgull mentioned this game, here is the story of a match that will forever be engrained in the psyche of any gulls fan that was there on that fateful day-

Are you refering to the match in 1989 v exeter where the circumstances were - the week before kenny veysey got injured, torquay then pulled kenny allen  out of retirement the following tuesday and played wolverhampton wanderers at molinuex in the sherpa van trophy southern area final 2nd leg. #

wolves were an all conquering, dominant team in the old division 4 the previous year winning the title and were doing the same in div 3 with steve bull and andy mutch an awesome strike force. torquay were 2-1 down from the home leg after steve bull who was an awesome prolific goalscorer scored 2 goals in the last 5 minutes.

everyone expected torquay to get a hiding.torquay went 2-0 up at molinuex inside the first 15- kenny allen then went on to play a blinder as did defensively the whole torquay team winning 2-0 and going on to the sherpa van trophy final.

the following saturday plainmoor was rocking :scarf: and the stage was set to greet our heroes amid a party atmosphere at plainmoor. an easy yellows home victory against our bitter rivals exeter city was expected. then a goalkeeper who was an unknown was selected instead of kenny allen.

:| mark coombe - the name will go down in torquay folklore as producing one of the worst or unluckiest (depending on your point of view) goalkeeping performances in torquay united history and it had to be against "them" on derby day.

:'( All the joy, good feeling and bounce from the pre match atmosphere had gone out of the torquay supporters by the final whistle as we got a 0-4 drubbing. :@ with goals gift wrapped (#) to an average exeter side by our keeper. veysey was sidelined for the rest of the season, coombe played on in the league matches, allen played in the sherpa van final.

torquay fans were on coombes back after the exeter game and although he dropped a few clangers he did look at times a half decent solid stand in keeper. i think he returned the following season for a while also. :scarf:
this was a game which will go down in legend as one of the darkest moments in our history. twas truly a moment which will never be forgotten by all those who were there supporting the intrepid heroes in yellow.
You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

Blimey that's hard work, hats off to anyone who can watch all 11:57 without wincing or squerming!!

The keeper had an absolute shitter for the last 2 goals, but not much he could do with the first two.

The first one was stuck in from no more than three yards pretty much bang centre of the goal, if that isn't goalkeeper territory, I'm not sure what is.
