I found the article very informative, and the fans comments underneath engaging and thought provoking. Certainly is a very sorry state of affairs at Home Park.

Question - as much as it is horrible to see clubs go under, would it help us as a club if Plymouth were no more. By that I mean, we would have one less club in the area (a) attempting to attract our youth (b) trying to entice players down here.

Or are we just "little old Torquay", who would never attract "big name" players down here regardless of how many other "bigger" clubs we had near us?

However, never nice to see a club go under, especially someone like Argyle who I like.

A new club would form in their case and an AFC Argyle would still be the biggest club in Devon, I doubt it would make much difference to us at all.

AFC Argyle, genius. Keep Home Park, but have them playing in the Evo-Stik league with 11 fans per side. Still be better than Rotherham though.

The Evo-Stik league has only really got famous because of FC United, there isnt really anything special about the league apart from that.

They're not really ever mentioned though, only in conversations about old league clubs or in the same sentence as FC United.

I've heard that there is a 70% chance that this weekends game will be their last at Home Park, and that Ridsdale thinks they'll go bust.

That is a shame, especially after they had seemed to pay off most of the tax bills. The trouble is finding the money to run the club after that, it was believed to be around 4 million including the tax and running the club til the end of the season.

That was the figure given on one of the BBC Sport articles, that obviously includes all running costs, wages, all the fines (accounting to over £1.2m) etc. I know when Dan McAuley was in charge he used to put in £100,000 of his own money every week just to keep the club running.

Well, mine was a joke, but ok. That seems a lot of money to run a L1 club, albeit a big one. This does seem to raise the question of whether we could possibly hope to avoid immediate and devastating relegation back to L2 should we get promoted any time soon?
