Us Brits Are Useless.

Post by cambgull »

We can't seem to get anything right.

In my local town, we've all been getting very excited about a Cinema complex which was due to be finished in September. It would also have several restaurants and bring in valuable money for the town. This has been a project nearly 10 years in the fighting for it due to being a town with 30,000 people and something entertaining has been long needed.

Now, the very clever people building it managed to build it 87 centimetres too close to a wall, they have had to halt production and now they are going to rip down the whole thing and start again. Complete berks. How do you build something nearly a metre too far and not notice? I was always told in wood tech class, measure twice, cut once. How do we manage to ruin everything we do, yet some johnny foreigners come in and build a massive skyscraper in London with awkward shapes and without any balls ups, yet we fail at some square, relatively short buildings. This is why China and India build everything now, they are cheap and do the job right.

I know exactly what you are saying Luke, here in Chesterfield there are roundabouts being dug up and replaced with new ones which are far more dangerous and complicated to work out to the point where if you actually sat down and analysed where each lane of traffic was to end up then you'd be a fool to build them like they have. Traffic lights are being put in all over the shop again, in dangerous places and they only help to stop the flow of traffic in areas that were problem free in the first place. It happens all over Luke and i keep saying it but i'll say it again. These 'managers' responsible for designing and implementing these atrocities are getting paid fortunes and for all the qualifications they might have, the one critical aspect that they all lack is pure common sense.

Here in Chesterfield they have been planning a multi million pound shopping centre for years to be situated on a car park in the middle of a large roundabout but the large Co-op department store opposite has closed down leaving the units empty and they now have shelved plans until they find new businesses to fill in the vacant retail space. They don't want people to visit this shopping centre and be faced with a load of empty shops on the other side of the road. I know exactly what should have been done and what needs to be done to keep the plans on track but they don't seem to and they're on hundreds of thousands of pounds! Too many cooks and all that.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

The Co-op department store will have been one bought by Beales, who bought out all Co-op non-food stores around 2 years ago. Beales decided not to put a shop in many locations as they were in the worst parts of town, etc. One of these cases is Derry's Cross in Plymouth, which some other users on here may know. The argument of empty shops across the road is a pathetic one, as a new mall will draw people to that part of town and therefore, into the empty spaces around it too.

Here's to the British being idiots!

I'll see your slightly ropey Cineplex and raise you the greatest Olympics the world has ever seen.

I win.

Matt.

On the plus side, if you're ever short of cash, you can freelance for the Daily Mail... :~D

It's not Brits that are useless, it's people.

Yeah, with a mahoosive stadium they can't use only fit for West Ham and not to mention the Milennium Dome which nobody wanted but yet they still felt compelled to build it at mahoosive cost. Oh and the HS2 train link......................... :na:

Maybe this should be in the politics thread as i suppose it is they who made these calamitous decisions and not ordinary working Brits.

Thing is Andy, I don't want ordinary working Brits running the country, because ordinary working Brits aren't fit to run a country. In the same way that I want my heart surgeon to live in a massive house in the country, drive a Roller and have a First Class degree from Oxford. If he went to Birmingham City Comprehensive and lives in a 2 bed semi in Dulwich, then he's probably not smart enough to be trusted with my life.

Yes but it's this very detachment from reality that your favoured choice of leader has that makes them not fit to run the country. You can never appreciate how hard life is unless you have lived in relative poverty and had to struggle for the basics and as these people have been spoon fed food and then money throughout their lives then they will never be able to sympathise and empathise with hardship and thus feel a relentless determination to make life better for hard working people who can't even afford to buy a 4 pack of Skol once all the necessary bills have been paid.

I'd like someone running the country who just uses common sense for the greater good and as i've said before, it really can't be that difficult. You don't need degrees from Oxford or Cambridge you just need to be a decent orator, a good communicator and have a sense of what is fair and what isn't.

I dare say also that if you were to collapse at a Torquay game God forbid , then the ambulance staff ensuring your survival would no doubt be resident in a 2 bed semi in Dulwich as that would be all their meagre wages could afford. I'm sure you'd trust them though Matt. :na:

I hope not.

Ambulance would take bloody ages to show up.
