Henry Cecil dies

Post by AustrianAndyGull »

Legendary flat trainer Henry Cecil has died today after losing his battle with cancer. Although he was a toff he didn't like the media and wanted to keep himself to himself and he was always a very reserved man who understood his horses. In a world full of poncy hooray henrys, Cecil was one of the few trainers I respected and he had the last hurrah by training Frankel. What a superstar.

RIP Henry Cecil and and thanks for the memories.

Such an archaic blinkered view of the industry makes me chuckle. Now if you had said greyhound cruelty about the greyhound racing industry then I would have 100% agreed with you but not so sure about horse racing.

Maybe you should look around you in fields and on roadsides and see horses tethered by a rope next to traffic often without water or shelter and ask those horses if they would swop horse lifestyles with the racehorse.

A very small proportion of racehorses get injured whilst racing but unlike the greyhounds, the majority that have a long and cared for career do not get tied up in sacks and slung on bonfires when their racing days are over and they are no longer profitable (as I know from my line of work happens). Horses once retired are found homes and although I think that the individual trainers are often two faced by not looking after the horse once it has retired they do find somewhere for the horses to go and indeed some even are kept by the trainers themselves.

Do you eat meat geezer? Take a look at the farming industry and it will become clear that your argument doesn't have a leg to stand on (a bit like some of the injured racehorses if you excuse the morbid example). Farm animals suffer intense suffering all over the UK on a daily basis from birth, to their husbandry and environment and through to the bitter end. Next time you are having a bacon sarnie in a caff or a pie at half time then just think so long as it's not a racehorse then it's all ok.

Of course you could be a vegan in which case you have my utmost respect and apologies.

You might not get an answer though..

Or even if you just eat dairy and not meat. It is still the same. Dairy cows are constantly bred to hold more and more milk for a higher yield and the damage that is caused to their bones and joints by carrying around all this weight until milking is great. Not to mention the discomfort the animal suffers dragging a zillion litres of milk around with it in a bag under it's belly. Think about that next time you have a cuppa (unless it's a black one of course).

Andy are you really that naive? ever heard of Godolphin? talking of speaking fluent horse, which I haven't yet mastered, ask the race horses at Godolphin if they chose to take steroids, who knows what else they do! also what the hell have greyhounds got to do with it?

I dunno Nick. A lot of these 'forgotten' horses make more sense than the inaudible grunts made by their owners.

The bloke at Godolphin was found out and punished. You will always get people doping horses but it is not commonplace. You just said that you think horse racing is cruel and I just commented on how hypocritical people are when they have shallow views like that but then go and have a kebab. It's like dog and cat owners who do the same. It's horrific if they see a dog being starved or abused because it is a companion animal but then they will go and have a KFC and eat a chicken which has never seen the light of day, has been pumped full of hormones and growth enhancers and then slaughtered in a less than sympathetic fashion. These chickens are the lucky ones. Often the sheds are that vast that if a chicken has broken it's leg, been pecked to the brink of death or ill then it hasn't a hope of being spotted and removed. It just suffers and dies. People should think more before going on about cruelty. That's all i'm saying.

Oh and while we're at it. If you think you are ok if you just eat eggs. What happens to the egglaying progeny that are born male? Obviously they can't lay eggs so they get gassed.

Nice

Anyone for an egg?

The other thing about meat is that it is gradually killing all of us and we are just too stupid to understand this. Animals are winning because when humans eventually die out then there will be animals and organisms stronger and more adaptable than we are who can then live in peace just avoiding predation and raising their offspring until evolution occurs once more. Then it all begins again. Happy days.

And those who say 'we are the dominant species so we can do what we want' need to be culled in all honesty. Just like the badgers. PROBLEM SOLVED BY KILLING THINGS - WELL DONE GOVERNMENT.

I have no problem with a bloke going out into the countryside and hunting his own rabbit for the table. Up until that point , the rabbit has lived a natural life and has been predated like it would have done by a hawk or whatever. Fine.

If people had to do that then many would be at the brink of starvation. If it is packed in clingfilm and on a shelf then it's ok for folk.

And I have NEVER eaten a spinal column in a bap because it wouldn't fit into a bap. It might fit into a baguette though. I have NEVER made pigs smoke, fed beefburgers to swans or been flattened by a cow dumped on me from a bridge. I have also NEVER had scared 60 foot high chickens in big sheds where nobody is allowed in nor called farmers big posh sods with mutated plums in their mouths, nor have I got donkeys without hind legs because I've fed them chips. I don't go MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! I've also got 104 friends. I like to 'stick to my own' and if I see a lovely field with a family having a picnic and there's a nice pond in it then I fill in the pond with concrete, plough the family into the field, I blow up the tree and use the leaves to make a dress for my wife who is also my brother.
