I'd be surprised if any of the current matchday squad are involved. Ideal game for the youth team to step up and play against men.

I went to Tavistock tonight. A comfortable win by the youth team who could have got many more. Yeoman scored a hatrick, including a penalty and also missed another penalty. It was 1.1 at half time thanks to the penalty and then a Tavistock free kick which missed all the players and went in from 30 odd yards

I spent most of the match trying to work out if the Tavistock defence was just plain slow or plain dirty. Either way Ray Spears turned them inside out throughout the 75 minutes until he came off in what was a man of the match performance. Constantly hacked at, he keep going and going and going , as indeed did most of the team who worked their socks off.

What was good to see was that the youth team are starting to play in a similar style to the first team. Never givng the other side time to settle on the ball, great fitness and superb one touch passing. At times it was really good to watch.

It was good to see the improvements at the ground with a football foundation grant meaning facilities are excellent.

We had a very friendly welcome from all the staff at Tavistock, there was an excellent programme, and they fully deserved the 250 odd crowd, whom I imagine spent way over £1000 by the time they got in and has teas etc.

Well done to all the youth team for a great win.

When clearing the snow off the pitch last month the Youth Squad put in a magnificent shift. Some of them are big strong lads over 6ft tall and glad they stood up to Tavistock and turned them over with a convincing result.

It was the 2nd round of the Devon Cup.

Torquay are now in the last 8 and play Buckland Athletic away in the next round (Date TBC).

Normally fringe players, those back from injury and younger pros play in these games, alongside "senior" youth players, but it was a youth team this time out for obvious reasons.

It is a totally fixed draw nowadays with the top 4 (Argyle, City, Torquay and Tivvy) all having byes and also all being drawn away from home until the semi finals.

I would recommend everyone to pop along to these matches, the home club always is really welcoming and well organised as it's a big match for them, and there is a feel good feeling about the matches, plus its a great chance to see other members of the squad play.
