My boss just asked a good question.

If we do beat Crawley, do we want a big money earner (Arsenal or Man Utd away) with the realistic chance of being knocked out or a small game like Hereford or Stevenage and a much higher potential of getting into the 6th round but less revenue.

Me personally if we are going to get a home tie again, I would want Hereford or Stevenage. The way I saw it was if we are at home Hereford and Stevenage are only going to get as many tickets allocated as Arsenal, Man Utd or Chelsea. However if we are drawn away I would like to go to Steveange, take a 1000 or so with us, out sing and out play them and enjoy the 6th round draw.

I'd rather be having this conversation on Saturday, but IF we are in the bag, i really hope we get one of the big boys this time. We've waited long enough, and our cup exploits in recent seasons deserve proper reward. Whoever we got, there would be no guarantee of progression, so to get this far and be rewarded with another League 2 side, home or away, would be a real kick in the nuts. Lets have a trip to one of the big 'uns, have a memorable day out (players and supporters), bank some TV money and afterwards, focus on the Play-Offs.

Lets face it, with our luck in the FA Cup the fifth round draw will be Man Utd vs Crawley. Even if we win on Saturday I won't be getting excited...

Quite simply a 6th round draw would put us 90 minutes from Wembley as the semis are played there

You need to ask yourselves what'll happen if we lose, the worst case scenario.

If we play Stevenage away, we lose, we have made it all the way to the 5th round and collected the sum total of £300,000. Not a bad return, but remember, the filth got to the 3rd round once in 100 years and got promoted to L1 on the proceeds.

Or

We draw Man Utd at OT and lose 45-0. So **** what, we'll be crying all the way to the bank with out cheque for £250,000 for telly rights and £750,000 for ticket sales, boo-flippin'-hoo.

Big game please, we can say this all we like, but in the end, we could play tiny clubs all the way to the final and still earn less for it than getting stuffed by United in the next round.

Once we've got the money from this years tournament, then we can mess about trying to win the damn thing, right now, it's an income stream and one which can be best utilised with one massive game.

Or not as the case could be. That said, the cup run money so far only reduces the loss in income due to this season's attendances. Then there's the cost of the grandstand rebuild and our contribution towards it.

What gives us the chance of further progression is making ourselves heard on Saturday throughout the whole game even if we go behind.

I was about to say that it just doesn't appeal like it once did, but then I though ... it's the FA Cup ... it's the semi-final ... it'll be a Prem club as opposition (surely??) .... it will be a massive day out. I'm starting to come around to the idea.

Ticket sales have been high, still dont understand were all these fans have appeared from. I have only missed the last two home games and that was due to work so have decided if cant get in then United have lost my money for the rest of season and with the kids and wife thats over £50 quid with snack and food all lost. Dont think we gonna win this anyways, we always tend to get a jack the lad attitude with lower clubs and under perform.

That was my point Trojan. If we're discussing this on Saturday, it's because we're through. I'm not particularly superstitious, but don't like us to get presumptious. I still remember the terrace at Colchester, when before kick-off a banner was unfurled in our end saying something along the lines of 'Well done Gulls on a Great Escape!'

Agree with you Fonda, there could be a lot of bitterly disappointed TUFC fans on Saturday but we won't be two of them, we might only be normal disappointed.

It's why any disappointment is dissipated from the system relatively quick. There'll be a Saturday night in town to enjoy and win, lose or draw I'll enjoy the Saturday night. It goes without saying that a win will give the evening a better edge.
