Gullscorer wrote:Where in south Devon can I get a decent pint of bitter (cider too, for that matter) served at or near room temperature. I remember not so many years ago you could get beer served from traditional wooden barrels at the Two Mile Oak. And I once had a perfect pint of bass at the Dewdrop Inn, Kingsteignton; the fresh taste and feel of the bubbles from the still active yeast remains clear in my memory. Is that still possible anywhere these days?

nah then.

do thee sein a favour, jump 'in't car to Yorkshire, and thal find some reit good ale me ol' cock.

Just like to say bl**dy well done to the Old No.7 Pub in Barnsley for being voted "Yorkshire Pub of the Year" by CAMRA.
It now goes forward to the national comp for Best UK Pub next year.
The pub is run by the Acorn Brewery in Barnsley and they serve 7 real ales and one cider via handpump.
all nice drops too...... (D)

That sounds good. But I'm trying to balance the cost of getting there against the number of extra pints I could buy closer to home..
Cheers..!! :-D

I've had a tipple of the old Acorn myself and it's not a bad drop. My favourites are still Tribute and also anything really by WOLD TOP BREWERY near Filey.

Why doesn't England produce any lagers? We have CARLING which tastes like p*ss and probably IS p*ss. Austria have loads like Schwecater, Steffl, Stiegel, Ottakringer, Zipfer, Gosser et al. Why does such a great brewing nation have to rely on foreign lagers like Stella, Fosters, Budweiser and the like? How hard can it be to brew and promote a new English lager? Disgraceful really.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

also (and yes I know its not real ale) but how expensive is carling?? :-o

its the second most expensive lager in one of our weatherspoons (Joseph Bramah's) at £3.15 a pint....only wife beater (Stella) is more expensive at £3.40...........all the other lagers - about 6 of them - are less than £3..............including an Efes 500ml bottle at £2.70...........

which is nice......... =D
