Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

does anyone really know what happens behind closed doors regarding players?
if knill didnt think pearce wasnt "quite right" due to his illness, then giving him a rest, in what were testing conditions, looks like a good decision.
of course if we had lost 3-1 then the moaners would have been on wanting to know why he was dropped.
Andy, I know you were there and wasnt to enamored with the display, but to be honest i dont care if we played like barcelona or the keel inn, we got 3 points and dont give a sh*t about anything else.

"If Pearce was angry"
Any jot of evidence of this?
Or standard one person says it and everyone goes along with it

Cheer up Andy!!! We're TWO GAMES UNBEATEN! AND ONLY 10 POINTS OF PLAYOFFS !!! ![Glasses :)](./images/smilies/glasses.gif)
I think pearce deserves a bit of a rest after what he's been dealing with - and we all know O'Conner is capable at this level.
We got our injuries back and now with some winnable games coming up we can start to pull away!
P.s i'm not actually saying we'll make playoffs - but you never know ...

According to the first reference to the dropping of Pearce on this thread, he wasn't 'angry'. He was 'not happy'. And of course, any player who was dropped would not be happy about it, but no doubt he, like most players, realise that managers have to make these decisions and that there's usually a reason, but occasionally the choice of player for a particular game or position may come down to just a manager's gut feeling or the tossing of a coin. However, a truly professional player such as Pearce will accept it and get on with the job of preparing for the next game as part of a professional squad. Any player who cannot do that probably does not belong in the squad. I cannot believe Pearce is of that ilk, and I'm sure he'll be back..
The same thing that will happen at nearly every other club in the division.AustrianAndyGull wrote:
I've just read your post Chris above and my worry is what happens when these loanees go back?
Apart from Morecambe and Mansfield every side in League 2 has at least 2 players on loan and 9 sides have 4 or more loanees.
Loan players have been a staple for lower division sides for many years and I'm not sure why you think this should suddenly have become a problem?

3-1. I'm happy and I am proud of myself, the others that were there and the players and Alan Knill.

Well done Torquay. Great to get three much needed points yesterday.
Am I right in thinking that everyone was in agreement in the summer that we had a difficult couple of months at the beginning of the season. Add the injuries to that and a bit of poor form and you have a reasonable excuse for where we are.
Let's stay positive and hope we can grind out some more results over the coming weeks. We've shown good football in patches, so I personally think we'll get there sooner rather than later.
Agree with the above comments though, that we need some consistency. Not sure loan players are too much of a problem but the balance needs to be right.
Onwards and upwards.

Yes, but Knill assembled a squad in the summer which (to his credit) he realised was just not good enough. Either that, or he is not a good enough manager to get decent results from them. So I would guess that we will be using loan players for the rest of this season. I.M.O. the danger is that if these players hit form then their parent club will want them back to have a look at them after their month or two loan period has expired,( much the same if Yeoman was getting loads of goals at Bideford then Knill would want him back). Our ex loan player's manager may then decide to get him a further loan with a L1 side to see if he can perform at that level, as there would not be much point in sending him back to us.AustrianAndyGull wrote:Because loanees IMO are there to add something extra when the sh*t hits the fan at the business end of the season or to fill in for injuries and suspensions when most needed. Not to take the places of perfectly adequate and capable squad members. I'm not sure why you think THIS is a problem?
I can accept a long term loanee such as a season long loan but not giving your squad players a chance just so you can stick someone in for a month or two is not the way to go IMO.
