Pokey was pretty good against Plymouth on Tuesday, so I wouldn't object to him getting some game time. No reflection on Ricey, just think it might be a nice one to give to MP.
Azeez will play, because despite last week, he's a good player. If we're dropping everyone who was shit in the Cup, then we're playing the reserves this week, no point in picking on anyone in particular from that performance.

No, there is a point, some players tried last week, most were just poor, Azeez was stand alone, he was shockingly bad, quite possibly the worst individual performance I've seen from any Torquay player since Dean Mooney played for the club, that said lets hope he plays Saturday, and put's it right.

I've seen Azeez 3 times now and in 2 of them he has been 'on the periphery' shall we say as the kindest way of putting it. He did ok at Wycombe and scored but has since disappeared completely on the pitch it would seem. Like Matt says, give him the benefit of the doubt as everyone was poor on Saturday and see if he can get up for this game. I'm sad to be missing it because I think it could be a very open, entertaining game for once given the way Chesterfield like to play.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Lets not forget that he is being played out of position, infact possibly a position he's not played in before he came here. He is a striker, not a midfielder.

While that is true in specific terms and, of course, is a mitigating factor in his overall lack of setting alight the division, it doesn't serve to excuse him from his inability to manage even the most basic tasks, inherent with the nature of the job. Namely, passing straight, working hard, jumping, tackling, running and other simple, day 1 lesson 1 type things which he singly failed to bother with against Rochdale.

Still, that's in the past now, saturday is a whole other thing entirely.

I guess we should give him the benefit of the doubt. However on Saturday I saw a player who couldn't pass, couldn't beat any Rochdale players and was never in the right place to receive a pass from his team-mates. On that basis, I don't think it would have mattered what position he played in. If he does play on Saturday I just hope that he improves, massively.

Agreed playing out position can be difficult especially for an inexperienced player, however also agree with the above two posts, and to add, Saturday when he appeared either unable or not bothered to run 2 yards for a perfectly good short pass made by McCallum was to me unforgivable.

However also agree, he like everyone deserves another chance.

Azeez will play, because despite last week, he's a good player. If we're dropping everyone who was sh*t in the Cup, then we're playing the reserves this week, no point in picking on anyone in particular from that performance.

Matt - How did Sully do in that game? Does he look ready for a starting place in the first team as I have suggested?

Eerm, no, probably not, if I'm honest. He wasn't outright bad, he just didn't do a lot. He was vastly outshone by the new guy, Daryl. That said, he did finish off one subline run with a shot which forced Cole into his best save of the day. It was a powerfully struck beauty which would have come extremely close to beating a lesser goalie.

I think sully is a player who is good against teams who will sit off him a bit. Plymouth reserves did, as they have every time I've seen them, press the ball very, very aggressively. This is fine for both Mozika and Craig, who have that beautiful skill of making their turn into space with their first touch (taken for granted by Premier League players, but not often seen in L2), but for guys like Sully, who need a touch first, then to get on their way, it represents a significant problem. He'd be a lovely sub, against tiring defenders who aren't willing to close down instantaneously, but starting against big lads who will take advantage of even the slightest hesitancy, he might look a little inadequate.
That's not to say, of course, that he couldn't be coached into becoming a very good player. He clearly has the natural attributes, he just needs a little bit of something else. I reckon a loan to a Conference side might just sharpen him up enough and give him enough football to get him back and have him genuinely competing for a first team place.

gullintwoplaces wrote: No problem with trying Sullivan, but I certainly would not put Azeez in, azeez performance against Rochdale was worse than abysmal. I am usually an eternal optimist, but I see nothing but another defeat in this game. The Rochdale performance shocked me, I didn't think I would see a Torquay side play that badly.
Don't blame Azeez as he had to sit in and pick up their wide player you have to blame the manaqger as he must haqve known how Rochdale played and should have pushed a player on to give Azeez a chance to get forward. The managers strength is he gets good players but can't fit them into a good formation get him to come and have a chat with me! can't make it Saturday hope we win but have not faith in the management at the moment but I feel that Knill has got good players to the club but he does not know what to do with them !

Nah, I don't accept that, Arc. It wasn't any decision of Knill's that meant Azeez couldn't manage even the most basic things with and without the ball. Playing Jordan Chappell in goal would be a dreadful managerial decision, but it wouldn't excuse that player's inability to pass the ball 15 yards out to Tongue.

I will be down for this one and will be bring my mate John from Newton Abbot so I hope for something a bit better than last week. Were we really that bad??? Was it like back to the past and the turgid stuff dished out in the mid 70's? Awful games to watch in front of 1,600 all stuffed under the old popside and the atmosphere of the bloody moon. Hope it's a whole lot better on Saturday otherwise the crowds will drop away and then it's financial trouble time once again!! At least I can drag another non attender back for at least one game but how many of the local support won't bother? For what its worth I will have us down for a moral boosting 2 - 0 (fingers and everything else crossed) so see you guys in B & L for a pre match pint and dog pie.

P.S. still prefer Plainmoor to the Kassam any day!!! up the U's (OUFC), yeah! right up em :scarf: COYYS :keepie: :scarf: :goal: :-D

Wow. Forgot it was actually that good.Thought some matches had the atmosphere of Pluto. All lonely. and oh so cold!
Oh I dunno. I have sat through worse in my 50 odd years. Oh boy, have some of those years been odd.
