Look at it objectively, if it weren't us, but another team, Grangetown FC, who were in the relegation zone and they were travelling away to Hoopersville FC, who were 6th (and within a win of being top) in their respective division, would anyone really say that the "only acceptable result" for Grangetown would be a win? No, of course not, you'd have to be insane. Yet, replace those teams with Torquay and Scunny, and people lose their minds.

They're at home. They've scored more and conceded fewer than us. They're 4th and we're 23rd. They have twice as many points as us. They've taken 17 points from their last 30, we've taken 6. What part of any of that suggests that we ought to be going there and getting a win and, moreover, that not doing so will represent some sort of failure.

Take it down one place each. Northampton away at Burton. Who here would be saying that Northampton absolutely have to go there and get three points or the manager should be sacked? No one, not even too many of the catastrophically deluded AC Northants fans would be saying that.

Yes, all games are, on paper, winnable, but we have to be realistic and say that, if we're judging where we are and how far we've come in the last few weeks, a loss to a side within touching distance of the top spot is hardly a decent barometer, nor an indictment that we haven't improved at all. Target the more realistic games. Southend will be tough, but I'm not sure that D&R will be so difficult. If we can keep playing as we have been these last couple of weeks, then I think we can win that. Equally, I think we should be looking to continue the run with a victory over Rovers.

We cannot expect to go from looking like one of the worst sides ever to grace the FL to expecting to beat a top 6 side in the space of 14 days and two reasonable performances. It's too much too quickly. Realistic expectations lead to, generally, happy supporters. Unrealistic expectations do not and expecting a victory at Scunny is unrealistic, given our present state. Not saying we can't go there and win, just that it would be an upset if we did. The bookies will agree and it will be interesting to see how many of you are willing to back your stance with a punt on us with Wills or A. N. Other.

Matt.
I have rarely in my life encountered a person who talks so much, and says so little.

Perhaps he subscribes to the old theory about a million monkeys typing randomly for all eternity, except in this case we are waiting for a succinct and accurate view on a footballing matter.

Keep bashing away, FL. Miracles do happen!

Matt - there's expectation and hope. Logically, there's no way we will beat Scunthorpe but then again, logically Exeter should never have won 4 - 1 (or was it 4 - 2 ?) up there. That's the beauty of football - it's unpredictable. We might get an unexpected penalty for a change or their keeper make a stupid mistake like the Morecambe keeper did last season. I hate to bring this up - but do you remember last season when Harrogate came to Plainmoor? Not only were they not in the same league as us, they were two leagues below us. Logically, they had absolutely no hope of winning. I'm not expecting a result ....... but I'm hoping for one. I'd also add that if Knill keeps to the side he put out against Argyle, the team will get stronger as they play more together. There seemed to be much more of a team spirit and commitment on Tuesday night.

Quite right, Tomo. My concern is that those who cannot separate the two are usually those with the loudest voices (or fingers, if you will).
