Retained / Released List
It was indicated to me yesterday that the released list would come out pretty damn quick after the season finishes on Saturday, possibly even as early as Monday evening or Tuesday.
The full retained list could obviously take longer as I am sure we will offer terms to players who may wish to consider offers elsewhere, and despite all of the rules, some discussions no doubt would have been going on between various agents and various clubs.
Good to learn that things will be happening pretty damn quick, and hopefully we will have a very clear idea before the season ticket deadline of the 9th May.....because I for one will only renew if I see 2 or 3 names on that released list

I don't really expect too many surprises when the retained list is announced, I think a lot of the decisions are pretty obvious really.
Of the out of contract players, I don't expect the likes of Poke, Bodin, Cooper or Labadie to be hanging around, not least because we cannot afford them and in some cases they will want to find another League club. I expect Craig, Cruise and Thompson to be released as they haven't been close enough to the first team under CH to expect another contract. The tougher decisions are whether his old "mates" from the Conference days are offered anything or not. Personally I think the time has come for Manse, Nico and Stevens to all be moved on but I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of those (Manse) gets offered a new deal as he has featured regularly while the others have not.
Of the remaining out of contract players, I would fully expect Rice, Yeoman and Lathrope to get new deals as they have served the club well under Hargreaves.
All the loanees will of course return to their parent clubs ... O'Connor, Stockley, Coulthirst, Goodwin and Cargill ... although I wouldn't be surprised in the least if we see two or three of those again in a TUFC shirt next season ... sadly it won't be O'Connor though as he is too good to be playing outside the League. Young Coulthirst would be excellent on a season loan but it may well be that Spurs won't feel that level of football is appropriate for his development. Young Cargill and Goodwin are more realistic targets I would suggest but even their respective clubs might not want them playing at Conference level at this stage. As for Stockley, his contract at AFC Bournemouth will be up soon and he is clearly not a Championship standard player, whether he feels he is a Conference National standard player is another matter though. Not sure whether Greavsie would want him or not to be honest.
Of those under contract, I suspect one or two may be told that they won't be figuring in Greavsie's plans and are free to find other clubs ... whether they can or will find alternative employment is difficult given the season we have just had though! I would expect Aaron Downes to be on this list (Greavsie clearly doesn't rate him as highly as some of the fans do) together with perhaps Chapell (has hardly featured under CH) and Harding and Hawley - both too expensive for the level we will be playing at - but will probably be difficult to offload.
Of those that we would like to keep, but probably won't be able to, the only name in the frame is Krystian Pearce who I expect to be sold for a fee.
I would therefore expect the basis of our squad to look something like this ...
Rice, Tonge, Hutchings, Lathrope, Mansell, Harding, Cameron, Benyon, Hawley, Yeoman and Sullivan ... With perhaps the likes of Cargill and Goodwin on season long loans.

Good accurate post CP and I agree.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

so we paid £75k for bodin and now he can leave for nothing?? we have an awful track record with players signed for a fee. wasnt constantine our last big one, cash splashed after he impressed on his loan debut, and then nothing from him after we shelled out
still keeping the faith
I think you are right - that is what I see happening - not that I would necessarily want those players.CP Gull wrote:I don't really expect too many surprises when the retained list is announced, I think a lot of the decisions are pretty obvious really.

I think Rice has done well but I am still not convinced that he is the strong keeper one would think of when thinking about the spine of the team.
It would be great if we could keep Pearce - we have had some great defenders over the last few years, from Todd, Robertson, Ellis, Saah, Downes, Pearce and it is unlikely we would get anything quite as good if Pearce departed. I would make him captain, tell him that he will get in the England C team if he stays and maybe develop his career further than if he stayed in League 2.
Like you, I am imagining Mansell will stay, although his twitter page hinted at the possible need to find a job at the end of the season. I think it is probably time to move on, although I wouldn't be as upset as some, if he remained involved. However, it is certainly time for Nicholson and Stevens to go but when Nico does go, I hope he is appropriately acknowledged for the role he has played in our team. He has been a good servant for the club.
I would love to see O'Connor and Coulthirst here again but it's extremely unlikely but I think Goodwin and Cargill could be. It is depressing to think we are still going to be lumbered with the non-scoring forwards that are Hawley/Benyon, taking up space in the squad and a salary that could be spent on one player who would be more effective.
I wouldn't be surprised to see us become a bit of a nursery team for Plymouth and Exeter and some of their fringe players like Tyler Harvey or Jamie Reid etc come to us for periods of loan.

When put like that, there's not a lot of quality there. Lathrope and Cameron are the only ones that stand out. We need a lot of work this summer, which is alarming, especially given that the manager said yesterday that there won't be wholesale changes. For this reason I wouldn't get rid of Downes, Pearce or Chapell until they have been replaced.CP Gull wrote: Rice, Tonge, Hutchings, Lathrope, Mansell, Harding, Cameron, Benyon, Hawley, Yeoman and Sullivan
Poke or Rice
Tonge - Downes - Pearce - xxx
Chapell - xxx - Lathrope - Cameron
Benyon/Yeoman - xxx
That would be a reasonable starting point, and if we did lose some, we should be looking to get a fee that we can use for a replacement. I don't think Poke's reputation is that high outside of Devon, and his injury record is appalling. I wouldn't rule him out yet.

Good post CP. I agree but I really rate Jordan Chapell. I do hope Chris Hargreaves views the videos of early season because I believe Chapell would be a big asset next season.
Rice, Tonge, Hutchings, Lathrope, Mansell, Harding, Cameron, Benyon, Hawley, Yeoman and Sullivan
Terrible conference south list that is. Expect bottom half finish if we end up with that lot. Only rice, lathrope and yeoman worth keeping. Just think of the wages that lot will cost as well, diabolical.

Hargreaves said in his interview yesterday that there won't be wholesale changes so sadly we can expect most of this lot to stay. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Nico and Stevens get 1 year deals too.

Hawleys arm injury is a concern apparently its really, bad break - i therefore hope we can pay him off at a reduced rate!Gulliball wrote: When put like that, there's not a lot of quality there. Will be interesting to hear about Labadie, i heard as a rumor as he was found guilty we didn't actually have to pay his wages during his banned spell! - I don't know how true that is but I unsure if he'd stay!

Good call Chris (CP) with your summary. That CH has stated there wont be wholesale changes suggests a number of those who posters on here would like to see the back of won't be going.
For me Poke has blown his chance and will be released; Rice is becoming our Number 1 on merit.
Mansell will be kept and probably due to financial constraints so will Danny Stevens.
I,too, hope Goodwin and Cargill will return either as our players or on loan. Sadly Pearce (Player of the Season?) will be sold and after recent eye catching displays Cameron too could go for a fee.
I stayed behind after the game yesterday and I can tell you the players were gutted.
As Alan Knill could have said yesterday: great win and performance, relegation feels like promotion!
