Billy Kee will be better than Elliot Benyon....

Post by royalgull »

Is my opinion.

Massive fan of Benyon, fox in the box type player and I think he'll do wonders at Swindon and maybe as far as Championship football. But I think Billy has a bit more going for him. His all round game at 19/20 years of age is lightyears better than Elliot's at that age, like Elliot they've both been brought up well by good Championship clubs, but after being bit part, Billy is now playing regularly in LEague 2 whereas Elliot was very much bit part for 2 BSP seasons.

Some of the finishes that Billy has produced in the last couple of games have been seriously high quality and goals that I don't think Benyon would score, in particular the one at Barnet on his weaker foot.

As Billy gets fitter and learns the game over the next 12-18months I think we've got a serious star on our hands here. He's scored bucket loads of goals for Leicester reserves which suggests like Benyon he's got that natural instinct to be in the right place at the right time, I just think he's got a little bit more about him at this time.

One thing is for sure it's important Billy is signed up for the next 2-3 years because when he goes I imagine he'll go for 3 or 4 times more than Elliot did.

All the very best to Elliot, I think he's a cracking player but I think him going, Billy getting more gametime and the feeling of being the number 1 striker is the best thing that could have happened to us right now. He's thriving in the role.

I have been thinking the same recently. No disrespect to Benyon at all here but I do feel Kee is a better finisher than Benyon and will score a better variety of goals whereas Benyon is more 'the fox in the box' type goalscorer.

I think we got reasonable money for Benners and with Kee around you feel we can cope with his loss fairly comfortably.

One thing Benyon does do better than Kee is does work a damn sight harder for the team and runs the channels better and if Kee could add a greater level of these attributes to his game then he really is going on to bigger and better things over the next few seasons.

I wish all the best to Benners - he gave all for Torquay when he was here, and if football was a fair then he deserves a big future in the game. Unfortunately we all know football sometimes is not - as if it was we would be playing Man Utd and not scummy Crawley!

Firstly no diss-respect meant to Benyon who a great servant to Torquay, and i will allways follow his career which will hopefully take him to bigger and better things.

To me,its fair to say that kee and Benyon are two very different players its already been mentioned about Benyon being "a fox in the box",however i thought Benyon was at his best on the shoulder of the last defender, lacthing on to a defence spliting pass, being played as a loan striker with the ball often being played long did not suit Benyon, and to me the fact that he 13 league goals i think, was in away a minor miracle.

Billy Kee is more about phyiscal presence,he will huslle and bussle, not scared to chase back, and put himself about,is he a better alround finisher, yes,i believe he is,but there is another difference between the two,Kee is not scared to shoot from anywhere, one sight of that goal and he will let on fly,and sometimes it will go wrong, and the players/fans will moam, you will hear"why did you noy pass",however i really do think there is nothing wrong with a slightly selfish striker who when given the chance just takes ashot,he shown already a few times, buy burrying a shot from around the 18yrd line.

also think Jake robison brings more than Benyon,Benyon worked hard ran the channels, but always in straight lines,Robison seems to be able to go left or right comfortably, and has fair bit of skill, also as we saw against hereford given a claer run on goal knows how to finish.

I agree that he will be better than Elliot, he is thriving in the lead striker role.
Would like him to stay with us for another couple of seasons, build up his value and help us with a promotion push when we're ready.
Plus he has a name that screams star.

Must say- I agree. The only thing stopping Billy would be his work rate. I believe this is down to his fitness anyway. The main advantages Kee has over benyon is his strength, a younger age and his ability to score outside the box! I don't quite remember when Elliot did that.

Absolutely no doubt about it. I said all along that this season would make or break Elliot in terms of his becoming a real top drawer player and, despite his goals, he has not been sufficiently superior in L2 to convince me that he is ever going to be a great deal better than he is this very day. His move to Swindon really does not represent a significant leap forward and there is still an outside chance that he could pass us on his way down this summer.
Billy seems to me to certainly have the making of a very, very good striker*. Time will tell.

Matt.

*He's so good, in fact, that I'd be surprised if the truly mighty Northampton Town didn't come in with a 7 figure bid for him in the summer. He would have the chance to play with their Premier League quality midfield. What's that you say? They're just a slightly shit L2 side and probably won't amount to more than a hill of beans? Surely this can't be right?

Surely if he had known they had signed Josh Walker, then he would've gone?

It does make you wonder, that if Billy had played all season, would he have a higher tally than Benyon achieved???? :-/

Hmmm, this post could tie us up in knots.

Had Billy played alongside Elliot in the 4-4-2 for which we have all been begging for 6 months now, Elliot would have scored more goals himself. How many more, no one can say for sure. Would it have been sufficiently more to negate the effect of billy's extra pitch time? Again, no one can say. The thing about which I am sure we will all agree is that, had we played with Billy and Elliot on the pitch together from day one, we would have a not insignificantly greater number of points on the board than we do presently.

Matt.

I think Kee is almost an all round better player than benyon at the moment more versatile, physically better and has a wider skillset, but i do not believe he will score more goals than Elliot. Benyon was in the right place in the right time, and he put away those chances. Billy on the other hand is frustrating, was anyone there at herford at home, where he had an open goal and missed from 4 yards. Next game against Stockport, scores a scorcher. He scores screamers, but misses sitters. Kee will be a better player, but Benyon was a natural goalscorer, if anyone steps up as our No.1 goalscorer id expect it to be robinson or zebroski.

There's a former Torquay United player who that trait reminds me of. Hmm. who was that, i wonder..
