I don't know about iPhones but I was having trouble listening to the online commentary on my Android phone so used the VLC app, works a treat.

Steve Breed still has some way to go before he's as good as Gordon Sparkes and Julian Gaunt..girlygull62 wrote:Same commentary team as Saturday

Gordon Sparkes good ??? You are taking the P are you not ??
He is just a complete and an embarrassing clown . Loves his own voice far too much and is so sycophantic when he interviews any Plymouth manager. Ridiculous muppet.

Steve Breed has always been a fine summariser, and he would be an excellent commentator, save for one basic shortcoming which in my view negates all the positives. And that's his irritating habit of raising the pitch of his voice at the end of most of his sentences. If everyone spoke the English language that way, the world would be truly Pythonesque...

Some of us had trouble last night receiving the commentary on mobile devices, especially the Kindle. This is my conversation so far with Amazon about it.
Initial Question: Reception of BBC radio services. I tried to listen to a match commentary on BBC sport online last night: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29111592
The Kindle had a wi fi signal, and I had BBC sport app, Radio Player BBC iplayer all installed, but was sent to the App store on every attempt at connection. Could you tell me how to receive this service?
10:18 AM BST Venkat(Amazon): I'm sorry about the problem you have with the app.
10:19 AM BST Venkat(Amazon): Lets try clear cache and clear data on BBC Sport, which should resolve the issue.
10:19 AM BST Chippygull: no. it didn't I tried that.
10:20 AM BST Venkat(Amazon): Okay, as you've already tried that and as you're still facing the issue, lets try clear cache of amazon appstore.
10:21 AM BST Venkat(Amazon): From home screen, swipe from top of the screen > tap on more > tap on applications > tap on installed applications > tap on appstore > tap on clear cache.
10:21 AM BST Chippygull: OK. I'll try that.
10:21 AM BST Venkat(Amazon): Thank you.
I am currently in touch with the BBC to see how this could be resolved from their end.

Fate: A police dog called Bryn bit Torquay player Jim McNichol and the time while he was receiving treatment was added onto the end of the second half.
I think the issue is with the BBC and not Kindle because I have an iPhone and the commentary doesn't work on that either. It was fine for the Welling game earlier this season, but they must have changed something in their back-end since then.
As for the commentary team last night, I really enjoy Breed and Mulhern. It doesn't bother me that Breed gets a bit high-pitched - it's passion and makes it sound more exciting. Try being a Torquay fan and commentating on a goal without your voice changing tone - almost impossible.

I've no problem with Steve's commentary when a goal is scored; all commentators are alike in that respect, and what you're talking about there is the dynamic range of a voice.
It's the calmer passages in between, for example when he describes players passing the ball, when the last word of a sentence is increased in pitch, so that every sentence sounds almost like a question, which is the problem for me.
As I said, he's otherwise an excellent commentator and summariser. I know nobody's perfect, but I find this so, so irritating.. AArrgh...!!!

Inneresting!! Here's my email to BBC :
Hello,
Please could you tell me why some football commentaries are able to be received on Local Radio online (eg. Lincoln v. Torquay (30 th Aug), Radio Lincoln, Torquay v. Aldershot (23rd Aug) Radio Devon) and some are not: Torquay v Nuneaton last Saturday and Chester v Torquay last night? All I was getting was a loop about rights?
So.. I tried to get the BBC sports website commentaries : I tried to listen to a match commentary on BBC sport online last night: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29111592

I couldn't hear the commentary on iPlayer last night, using a Samsung S5. BBC Radio Devon sports show which definitely wasn't a sports show.

Indeed. It was a load of syndicated hogwash about fly-tipping, that strangely was also on Radio Merseyside at the same time (i.e, no Sport Shows there either!!).

Gordon Sparkes! Are you winding me up or what? :-o That buffoon makes me want to smash my bloody radio when he blabbers on. He cant even barely speak English at times. I appreciate he has a broad accent, no problem with that, I love our regions various Devonshire accents (got a slight one myself), but when the t0$$er goes on about his precious Argyle he just irritates me to the point of wanting to do a double Vincent Van Gogh.Gullscorer wrote: Steve Breed still has some way to go before he's as good as Gordon Sparkes and Julian Gaunt..

Give me Steve Breed, Paul Mulhern, Dave Thomas or Chris Fleet any day.

I listened to the match loud and clear here in Phuket. I've installed Hola and the Torch browser, go to the bbc commo page and after a couple of fails it loads fine. The only game I've missed is the Lincoln one. For some reason it wouldn't work. As for the rising tone at the end of sentences. When you work with Aussies you know exactly how it's found its way into the English language. I blame Home and Away along with Neighbours. All those single mothers with nothing to do other than smoke fags and watch daytime telly with their Kylie and Jason asbo wannabee brats! Drives me nuts.
I move to Hanoi next week and that might present a different challenge on matchday.
