What next for TUFC and why?

Post by kevgull »

We are now left with a 13 game run until the end of the season. 3 of these teams have playoff credentials the others are either fighting relagation or mid table mediocraty.

What should our objectives be for the rest of season and why?

Achieve 55 points ASAP?
Nullify any chance of relegation

7 games unbeaten at Home?
Keep the home fans from deserting and emptying the coffers still further

Agreeing a points tally, say 24 out of the 39 available?
Prove that the Manager and squad are good enough for a playoff push next season.

Get Bowman and Young scoring regularly?
Recreate the early season style of attacking football

7 clean sheets?
Demonstrate that we are capable of defending as a team

I fear that unless clearly defined objectives are set, we will bumble aimlessly over the 50 point barrier and then fall apart.

Key for me is monentum,

Let's finish this season strongly with some very winnable home games and then start next season in the same manner

Agreed Roar. Don't think any manager can or will look at things and think 3 wins, or 4 wins, or lets get to 55 points quickly, Chris Hargreaves from now until the end of the season has to look at every aspect of the team management, from what work is being done on and off the training ground by our players, is it right, can it be better, does it need modifying, what are these players doing after training, yes it's their free time, however the manager has the right to control it, if an individual player isn't living his life in the right manner.

Chris Hargreaves needs to look at his own management style, from man management, to match day management, does it need changing, can he get an extra 10-15% out of these players, is he making substitutions or tactical changes for the right reasons, CH needs to figure what his best line up is, best game plan (tactics) are and stick to it (none of this 4-4-2 at home because it's Telford, and 4-2-3-1-1 because it's Grimsby, keep it simple and relevant) then refresh one or two positions as needed.

Momentum is spot on, get the man management right, match day management right, then performance levels will rise, and we'll find results will soon follow, with confidence and trust, and that's two way between players and manager results are often automatic.

Tempered with the fact all supporters will be turning up on Saturday expecting a performance and a win against Telford and not a repeat performance of last 2 games.
If you look at the fixtures remaining there are games that we should win, Telford at home is one of these games and from here we can look to build.

A loss would give Telford the double over us this season, wouldn't want to contemplate that, would you?

Looking at last year's table Barnet finished 8th and Macclesfield finished 15th. Both teams now hold the 2nd and 3rd places in this year's table respectively. The conference is too unpredictable to really figure out the following season. I say we just get this one out of the way and start strong next season. Roll on 15/16.

A strong finish is still a possibility, though its too late now to have a chance of sneaking the play offs. However, there are a lot of people at the club who have it all to play for. The manager for obvious reasons and a good few of the players who will be looking for work in the close season. Thats one of the reasons why Saturday to me was a disgrace. I know a lot were giving it large to CH but it was the players who were the embarrassment on the day.

Its those kind of games that will attract more attention to you and some of them were shocking. Not just in their substandard play but in their effort. That's what I struggle to accept. Looking at some of them you wouldn't think that unemployment is an approaching reality and from now to the end of the season they really need to up their game. If not for the club then for their own futures.

Totally agree with A Realist as any players not wanted by us will be lucky to find another pro club; they might just as well start planning to follow Seabright's example.

Just have to win as many games as possible, sounds blindingly obvious but also if Hargreaves has any question marks over players then he should start his pre season now. Dawson, Reid, Guegen, McQuilkin and possibly some of the youngsters should play every game, have a good look at them and make some decisions for next seasons. the ones he's decided on that are going shouldn't be involved. Try and get some team spirit and some feel good factor back, that's not easy but new faces be it the trialists/loanees or ideally 2 or 3 of the youth team would help that.

This club is stuck in a horrible rut, no one seemingly enjoys going to games there is a defeatist resignation about Torquay games at the moment and we've got to do something about it. Love to see a board clear out in the summer, a player clear out and a fresh start all round.

Well - who cares. I don't. After Saturdays debacle I won't be attending another game this season. Whats the point - its a complete and utter waste of money.

Spot on. Board clearout is a must if Thea is seriously going to protect her interests and the player clearout is clearly needed.

Good plan! but possibly the bigger picture does not involve the team, but what happens at Board Level. Will the Board be looking at crowd numbers in the remaining home fixtures ( excluding season ticket holders & away supporters ) ? They must already be "doing their sums " Are they thinking of going part time next season? We would not be in this mess if they had supported Ling & not sacked him & appointed a muppet in his place!

Once we've won a couple of games, you'll be back.

You always go back.

Sadly our troubles are far more deeper than getting Young and Bowman playing. Unless there is major change at board level then I still fear we have not reached rock bottom yet!!

Absolutely in agreement, but a scatter-gun approach is not needed. Hopefully, any new investor wont have their Vickers in a twist, but with due diligence will neutralise identified targets. Remember, "hitmen" work in pairs - "spotter and shooter".

Then there are snipers. Plenty on here working in tandem.
