Don't listen to Dave, Scotty, Potts was pretty damn good last night. All this, onto the bar/over the bar nonsense is a poor cover for a guy who KNOWS the 'keeper played well, but doesn't want to admit it.
And I mentioned EoK twice in my write up, so my point is worth double.

Pretty damn good? How exactly? He had next to nothing to do besides the penalty and the "superb" tip onto the bar. If he plays well I'll be the first to applaud him, I just won't be that surprised when he costs us points a la Cheltenham ;-)

SG are you saying that you don't think that potter played well and didn't keep us in the game thus increasing our chances of getting something out of the game, also I have been very critical about potter not being as dominant on corners and crosses but against rotherham who score stacks of goals performed very well considering he has been on the sidlines for best part of the season which show how professional and commited to the cause he is, remember he was a no1 before and came here to compete with bevs and now he is taking his chance and delivering for us, we have been blessed for a few years now with 2 good keepers at this level and not many clubs in this division can do as we do and change the gk seemlessly im not avin a go just making a informed point as i have said i still have some reservations about his strengths as a keeper but as we have seen he is a different cup of tea to bevan.

maybe he did make a mistake but as you know (being a goalie) keepers will make them but it's how you move on from that and get that positive reaction which happened on tuesday night fact.

Well, he made that one good save onto the bar, and saved a penalty, he could do precisely nothing about the goal and didn't make any other errors, so I fail to see your argument against my assertion that he was pretty damn good.

No that isn't what I said.

He saved a penalty, he tipped one onto the bar when making minimal contact with a ball hit straight at him. Tell me, what else did he do to say he had an excellent game? It was the best I've seen him play thus far but that doesn't change my opinion that he isn't a good keeper. He still makes me nervous because he is hesitant and doesn't get off the ground when attempting to make saves. With his lack of height it's probably the most important thing he could work on. When he's playing he has my full support just as he did last night but I don't see the need to make out he put on a wondershow last night when he clearly didn't.

Matt.

The tip onto the bar was NOT a good save, it was a matter of a few inches from being a mistake. That ball shouldn't have even gone close to the bar but been pushed way over it. Penalty? He guessed right. So in essence, he was pretty damned lucky, lucky got us a point, but he cost us one at Cheltenham for sure and I also think he cost us one at Accrington, another instance where he clearly didn't leap high enough to make a save. So what you fail to see is purely down to your limited insight into the arts of goalkeeping.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

Don't think this was aimed at me, but just in case...

It's all contextual, that which he had to do, he did perfectly well. I can't say nothing of his performance, not since he saved a penalty, I can't say he wasn't good, because he didn't put a foot wrong so I'm left with one option, and that is to suggest that he was pretty damn good. I did qualify that in my report/rant about the game by suggesting he didn't have a massive amount to do, but I really can't critise his performance last night.

he didn't concede a sloppy goal when they went at u for about 20 mins kicked well and kept on talking to the defence which in the second half looked very shabby especially in the cb positions, you don't just have to make world class saves to have a good game as a keeper it's more than that.

I think what you choose to see is down to your dislike of the man, which is fine, but hardly fair. However, you do know more about goalkeeping than I do (I am offcially the world's worst goalie).

I didn't say he had to make any world class saves, I didn't say he had a poor game, I just wouldn't say he was "pretty damn good". I know perfectly well what it takes to be a good keeper and I also know a good performance when I see it. He can be satisfied that he had a "good" game, but he will know and so will Kenny Veysey, that he can be more decisive and more athletic which will make his performances better and more consistent.

I don't dislike him at all. He's a Torquay United player and has my full support when playing. I see someone trying their best, I loved his interaction with the fans at Cheltenham and I hope he has me coming out glowing about his performances, but a lucky save and a penalty stop won't make me go weak at the knees I'm afraid.

Why don't you go there yourself and pat him on the back and tell him how wonderful he is?

While there you could ask Kenny Veysey what he thinks as well. There's a man whose opinion I would respect on the matter.
