Names of contributors

I always keep an eye open for great contributors' names - you know the kind, Senor Ding Dong, Heaven or Hele, that kind of thing. But why get complicated? A fairly new name has appeared which goes straight into my Top 10 of good (i.e. silly) names - yes, you've guessed it: BERT!

One or two contributors have actually worked it out. Some years ago the Gulls played a pre season match at Dawlish, and I was on holiday at the time. Met up with my mate ZippyGull, had SEVERAL beverages, sat on the grass and enthused about a trialist striker

who had a beard you could hide a badger in!

We'd already worked out how the club were going to make £millions from the sale of fake beards, Arab robes and Fezzes and it would be a springboard up the league and into European domination! It was a fantastic business plan and we worked it out in just over an alcoholic driven hour.

Sadly, the manager (cant remember which one..) decided our plan wasn't viable, as he never offered a contract :rules: to the player who sadly disappeared to wherever he came from...........

But the legend was born...................

I was at the game too, which is why I remember him.

He looked pretty decent that day, too.

Yea we thought he played well, ZippyGull went and shook his hand after the match, convinced he'd get a contract even if it was only a short term one.
Alas it didn't happen, and he changed his name to Moeen Ali and became a less than ordinary cricketer..........

(I made that last bit up, the name change not the bit about Ali!!)
