im led to believe that the team stay in a mix of travelodges, premier inns and ramada's and the odd holiday if its

cheap at the time! =D

as for the "journey" to northampton, i thought that the driver "missed" the turn for the M4 at bristol and thats why

they ended up on a guided tour of central england.

idiot. :@

Did think it was a strange route, that they were taking, going that far up the M5, SNW!

Somewhat off topic but could that be because so many locals move away from the bay looking for a more rewarding career (and obv better pay) than the holiday/catering trade?

I know I quite happily buggered off and then moved back twenty odd years later when I could afford to. I did try and get to as many home and away games as I could though

not sure how many fans we have in the london area, but i am london born and bred and for thirty years i've been a torquay supporter :scarf: but believe me, if i could get a job doing what i do, down in the bay, i'd move down tomorrow. nothing particularly nice about this part of the world these days, but having said that, it does make life much easier for most away games !!

back on topic tho - how the hell does a coach driver MISS the M5/M4 junction ?!?!?? apparently, it's the only man made object you can see from the moon

I've never moved away and have done very nicely thank you very much.

Back in the day, you could leave skool(?) at 15 and get an apprenticeship, a real indentured one in engineering/construction. Back then there was a vocational route into university after completion of City & Guilds and HNC/HND (BTEC).

I never went higher education special skool(?), I was too busy putting in the hours and knocking out the money.

For those that now go to higher education special skool(?), can you afford it and how old will you be before the the debt is cleared ? Back in the day we were looking at getting on the first rung of the property ladder on apprenticeship completion (aged 21).

It helps being in the building trade when it comes to getting your place straight. What you don't know or can't do, one of your fellow craftsmen will know and can do.

Don't moan about going off topic because "clerical error" went off topic donkey posts ago. ;-)

Strange that cos I always found it funny getting on the tube at West Ruislip for Orient matches and watching the tube gradually get more and more yellow and blue scarves/shirts at each stop. The vast majority I spoke to over the 10 or so years of doing that (97 to 06 so I probably even met you at some time) were expats though, having moved away in search of the "lucre"

As I am sure have others Troj. There are plenty that do move away though, particularly with the lack of any major employer in the bay (apart from the usual "service based" suspects) since the demise of STC/ITT :(

Not sure exactly which route they ended up taking but being near Cambridge I have to do pretty much the same trip down to Plainmoor. If they went up the M5, M6, M42 then it would usually be quicker as the traffic wouldn't be so bad as on the M4. We can do it in around 4 and a half hours.

I used to do the same sort of journey Camb, to and from the delightful environs of Huntingdon :)

Dont forget on a Friday afternoon, the heavy traffic on the M4 is Bristol bound. Heading towards London that time of day is a lot easier (unlike on a Sunday afternoon).

Always found Oxford/Silverstone/Northampton/Wellie to be the quickest route for me, certainly quicker than the M42 which has been a bloody car park whenever Ive used it on a Friday...

Next time, try the Bedford/Aylesbury/Oxford/Swindon route. That used to be a reasonably quick run and more enjoyable than the motorways :)

I'll admit Fletch that I was fortunate to get the apprenticeship opportunity that came my way when it did. I've had my fair share of working away from home as well, although it's always been for South Devon companys. I've done a couple of stints at STC/ITT/Nortel as an outside contractor, the last stint between 1999/2001 being very lucrative.

I've had my share of the difficult times as well, but nowhere beats the ENGLISH RIVIERA for a place to base and nowhere beats Plainmoor to shout off one's face.

Just as I'm ready to go bed so I can make my early start at the MOD establishment I'm currently working at, they come on here and have their digs with their pointy daggers.
