If we think like that then whats the point in having a football club? I'd much rather see my team get battered every week and never get anywhere, maybe even get relegated so that we can afford it. That would really increase plainmoor attendances! Of course its important to consolidate league status but we should be going all out to get promotion so that we can start to build a bigger more established higher tier club. Like Yeovil have done for example. Yes they have a bigger fanbase but they were a non league club a few years back. The more successful you are, the better teams you play and all the stay at home glory hunting fans will soon come back to plainmoor in their droves ( like all those who turned up at Wembley v Cambridge but would now rather watch Coronation Street than Aldershot at home on a cold wednesday evening! ). I'mtorquay til i die and i bloody well want success for this football club and its real fans and getting promoted is all that matters. I,m not saying i want us to be playing man u and arsenal within 5 years Notts Countyesque, that is quite clearly insanity but what i do want is to be in league 1 and then take it from there.
I see what people mean in regards to the financial constraints, but approach it like Blackpool in that case. I'd love to see us go as we are now - playing fluid, attacking football with some talented young players, and adopt a nothing to lose attitude. So what if we go straight back down?

I agree with going straight back down, we would still get money for finishing in last place? or dont they do that anymore?shaunicus wrote:I see what people mean in regards to the financial constraints, but approach it like Blackpool in that case. BUT! I've grown up to see little old torquay in divition 3/league 2 most of the time, i would want them to get bigger crowds, i liked it when we had to get a draw/win against barnet few years back and jason rees was my favorites player ever. I like my family/friends saying who the f*ck are Torquay.
Thats my torquay and always will be, would never want them to turn in to something like cardiff city.
If anything, stay down this year, next season, maybe try and reach late places of a cup and then get promoted with a bit more money to spend the season after?... Or am I on my own?

Not to be a git, but that it a depressing question. I hope we win the league (not really possible now but hey!). Auto-promotion will be fine although I would love to see Torquay win at Wembley again - hence more money.
I didn't realise the prize money was £5k for finishing 3rd. That takes the piss, some fan could gift us that and not even notice (if we were lucky)

Not at Wembley, it's Old Trafford, but I get your point. :~D
