If i was Benyon i would be regretting it, Yeah they might be a bigger club and in a higher league... how long will they be a league 1 club though? Personally i would of stayed at Torquay simply because not only are we in with a slight chance of actually being in a higher league than Swindon but he would also be getting first team football week in and week out. Bench warming will do nothing for his career.

Also with Swindon deep in the relegation zone, with us having a chance of swapping leagues with them he could be having second thoughts. But with an increased wage and one more goal than Torres with his new club. I guess hes happy.

If a club accepts a bid from another team, the player doesn't have to go, he has a choice. Benyon made it clear he was keen to move on and in an interview after his move he said it was an "easy decision" to move to Swindon. However, I'm very grateful to Benyon for keeping us up last year and doing very well this season and would always welcome him back.

not missed him for a single second tho have we?? barely given him a second thought to tell you the truth, was talking about him at bradford on saturday, couple of them went exeter v swindon and said he was largely anonymous? obviously if the loan players dont stay then we may miss his predatory instincts, but so far its elliot who imho??

Wasn't happy at the time but once again its been proved that Buckle should have everyones faith. Correct decision to let him leave, and we've not missed him at all, Kee, Robinson, Zebs, Tomlin, all imo better players

Once a club has accepted a bid for a player, there's only likely to be one outcome as the player in question knows the club are happy for him to leave. Also, having made a move, a player is unlikely to subsequently say 'well, i didn't really want to come'. People have short memories. His work-rate and predatory instinct would be an asset to any club. The players Bucks has brought in have done excellently - but they are different kinds of players and we are playing a different brand of football. I'd personally welcome him back, and believe that in a better side, he'd score freely. As for regretting it, i don't get the impression Benyon is the kind of player to feel sorry for himself. He'll be working hard, even though he's evidently surrounded by s***.

If you're saying the club were happy for Benyon to leave then I think you're wrong. Most players will do what is best for them and why not?

Benyon - offered more money and a step up to League 1, no contest for a player with ambition. To lay that on the club is simply ridiculous in my opinion.

I admired the effort EB put in while he was a Torquay United player but let's not kid ourselves, he had severe limitations which are going to be much more obvious at a higher level. I said at the time I felt we were a stronger club after using the sale of Benyon to add the likes of Stanley and Robinson and I doubt anyone could deny that's been the case.

To take Benyon back would represent failure for him and also be a backwards step for us. Onwards and upwards.

We are a much better team without Benners. Don't get me wrong, good luck to the boy, I'd give my left nut to swap places with him, but the daft insistence that we had to play him in every match and alone up front on his own was costing us week after week.

On a different note, not absolutely sure why the OP decided to refer to STFC in the manner he has.

I would expect that Swindon sought permission to speak to Benyon. We tell Benyon of the approach and he says he wants to speak to them, they make him an offer, he says he would be happy and then Swindon make an offer to the club. I doubt very much that Benyon felt he wasn't wanted by us as you would care to suggest.

I think most of us saw the limitations in Benyon's game, how many one on one's with the keeper did he fluff in his time with us? I would put Kee miles ahead of Benyon as a finisher, Tomlin also. I don't think Benyon will ever have enough skill or guile about him to be prolific. Don't get me wrong, I liked Benners, but we now have better forwards than him, getting another to add to Kee on a permanent basis is the problem we face.

Well that's where we differ yet again then Dave. I really rate Kee, and Tomlin has come in and done a decent job for us, but i don't consider either of them 'miles ahead of Benyon' as a finisher.

I'd also be very surprised if the club allowed Swindon to talk to Benyon before a deal between the clubs had been agreed in principle. In that scenario, what if Benyon was keen on the move, but the two clubs had failed to agree on a fee? We've suddenly got an unhappy player where once we had a contented one. Very strange way to do things.
