Martin Allen screws Barnet over!

Post by Plymouth Gull »

Signed a deal for the 8 remaining games of the season, gets them playing well, then **** off to Notts County.

What an absolute dick. Sorry, but that really is harsh on Barnet, as they finally seemed to be putting some good stuff together.

I don't see how you can say he's screwed them over. He didn't have long-term security or he wouldn't have been free to leave. He's got them playing well and left them in with a realistic chance of escaping relegation which seemed almost impossible when he joined them. Good luck to him, he'll need it working for that shower up there.

Really? Imagine if we were down there, like we were in 2007. No hope all year, then a manager comes in, is in charge for 3 games and takes 7 points from 9. Gets you level with the team ahead and only in the bottom 2 on goal difference - then he does one and leaves us in the lurch again. That's exactly what he's done to them, and I can't help but feel sorry for them, to be honest.

Your thread title says "Martin Allen screws Barnet over!"

I say he hasn't. Instead I say he's got them playing well and fighting to remain a League club and has left for a bigger club with more potential, nowhere near screwing them over in the process.

I agree with SG, he hasn't screwed them over at all. The guy didn't have any contract with barnet, he stepped in to help them out, and with that in mind he has helped them get 7 from 9 points. the guy has not worked for 8 months, and at most had potential to work for the next month or so with barnet. You can hardly criticise the guy for wanting to accept a 12 month contract with another club, If it was me i would have bitten their hand off as well. If barnet wanted him long term, they should have given him some security and offered him a contract. As it stands he may already have done enough to keep barnet afloat and send those whinney Northampton fans down another division.

I'm not happy with it Nick, I want Barnet to stay up and send NTFC down, but as Dave says, Martin Allen was working there on a non-contract basis, probably for a pittance and with no resources to utilise.
I think this situation needs looking at from a wholly opposing angle, he did them a massive favour by going there for the short time that he did, it's not as if he needs the money, and it certainly wasn't putting him in the shop window for a bigger job. Jolly well done to him for doing as much as he did for a truly bad side. As has been mentioned, good luck to him up at Notts County, they are on a rotten run and it will take a miracle to keep then in L1.

Matt.

Grrrr, do NOT diss Martin Allen :@ :@ :@

It's even worse than being rude about Billy's physique. Nick, please stay in at lunchtime and write 'Good luck Martin Allen' a hundred times. :whip:

I just hope that it works out for him there, he deserves a chance to shine

He wasn't on a contract so you can't blame the guy at all :-/ Barnet may well avoid the drop thanks to his work there anyway. My guess is Burton will fall through the trapdoor along with Stockport but don't have a go at Martin Allen for opting for job security as I think I would do the same thing.

Can't see how anyone can blame him to be honest. Here's his interview discussing the move.
