Plymouths plight

Having worked for Plymouth City Council asset management department, I couldn't agree more though! The only things in Plymouth worth any money are home park and the shopping mall. Everything else is just a pile of sh*t and falling apart on itself.

Its a L1 club run at Championship prices though, there weren't any clauses in the contracts for a relegation wage drop which is just silly considering they were in the bottom half of the league most of their time there.

To be honest, I really don't think we'd survive in the league if we got promoted now. We might just about survive financially but if we have no money to buy players for League 2, we definitely don't have money to buy League 1 players. We wouldn't have the strength in numbers to jump up the football league like Argyle did, we would need to consolidate in each division for at least 4 or 5 years before we look at a genuine promotion push.

Going into administration essentially means that Plymouth Argyle can write off their debts. Companies and individuals owed money by the club for services or products supplied will be lucky to get 6 or 7% of what they are owed.

Debts caused by an appaling Argyle board who overspent, mainly on transfer fees and wages, to try and gain success. They failed big time.

As a direct result of their incompetance, some small business are sure to fold. This was the case when Exeter had problems and a small catering supplier, with just 5 members of staff went to the wall.

Remember, the likes of Paul Stapleton still have the money to go on holiday , whilst the club he chaired owes people money.


.....so all I would ask is that by all means have sympathy for their great supporters who follow them all around the country.....but also have a thought for the lady who cleans in the evening and the man who supplies those cleaning materials to her....as they, unlike the likes of Shaun Wright-Philipps and AWOL Paul Stapleton are the ones who will truely suffer.

To me, misplaced Argyle fans are welcome at Torquay any time.

Less than 1p in the pound? If I was owed that, I would probably refuse the agreement on principle and see the gits fold.
I see the administrator is owed nigh on 1/4 million for what, about 5 or 6 weeks work?

I didnt want them to fold when this first happened but to be honest, im pretty ambivalent towards their fate now

stupid bloody 'football creditors' rule is what gets my goat. Players and other clubs get paid first, before the taxman and the St. John's Ambulance? that's not right. If players get offered a contract that seems too good to be true, they shouldn't be surprised when it all goes tits up. As it is, they know that this unfair rule protects them from the mismanagement of the club

I think you can expect a legal challenge to that one from the taxman soon Chris. I thought it might happen with Pompey but I guess they wanted a slightly lower profile case (and one that looks a dead cert) to set legal precedent...
