Sorry I didn`t mean to invite a debate into who is Torquay`s greatest ever keeper on what is an Alex Bass thread. Its all subjective after all. My main thrust was that the Gulls have historically had its share of talented keepers. Not just my personal opinion as I`m reasonably sure that many on my short list were at some point voted the clubs Player of the Year. Long may it continue, an exceptional keeper is worth 20 points a season,

Sorry but going to continue this debate ,
1. John Turner, as mentioned before on this site a hero of my childhood & when we resigned him from Chesterfield in 1983 I was ecstatic so say the least, then to my horror a certain Mr Webb came in & ripped the heart out of our club.
2. Bobby Olejnik, how the hell did we manage to sign him in the first place, far too good for us a superb keeper in my eyes.I
3. Shaun Macdonald, this boy is special & should be nurtured, one day he will make TUFC some serious cash.

You've re-ignited the good 'keepers memories, L.G. However, it had somehow slipped my mind that Kenny Allen was one of our 'great 'keepers' ..........Launceston Gull wrote: 13 Dec 2018, 22:47 Forgive me, slightly off topic but had me thinking how fortunate we`ve been in that position in the 50 plus years I`ve been spectating..Andy Donnelly, Mike Mahoney, Kenny Allen, Ken Veysey, Neville Southall and Kevin Dearden spring to mind.

I know we are re-hashing this a bit but surely Mike Mahoney - we sold him to Newcastle for £30,000
a lot of money in 1974 and he went on to play 108
games in what is now the Premier League, how many of our keepers have done that? - and started of as loan from Bristol City so the connection has been going a while !

Colin Lee was also a Bristol City loan initially?
Funny how Olejnik went downhill so quickly think he had a full season for Peterborough inthe Championship, but then dropped down to York and spent 2 seasons mainly on the bench
for Exeter and Mansfield.Has been first choice for this season though but now sadly out for10-12 months with ruptured ligaments. Great keeper for us though

Yes, Mr Trojan, you are right about John Dunn. We've had so many good goalies over the years that I did forget him. Bobby Ojelnik was excellent, too, and I'm sorry to hear of his decline.
I'm not sure about Terry Lee and Kenny Allen being in the goalkeeping pantheon, though.
Nevertheless, for all this excellence, Terry Adlington is still the one for me.
