Recall a childhood 1963 FA cup game against Barnet where our goalkeeper Terry Adlington scored a goal playing as a winger. An unusual feat for a goalkeeper. In the days before substitutes he was injured during the game and so played on the wing. Torquay won the game 6-2.

NB. Double Olympic swimming gold medallist Rebecca Adlington is his grandniece

I'd also add Brendan Moore. He proved himself a competent 'keeper when all around him was falling apart.

Three pages and no mentions of Neville Southall! Despicable!

As for Bass, as I understand it he has returned to Portsmouth under the terms of the loan agreement as cover for their injured stopper - once he's back to full fitness then Bass can return to us.

Well, except for the VERY FIRST post that mentioned our good goalkeepers over the years...
Launceston Gull wrote: 13 Dec 2018, 22:47 Forgive me, slightly off topic but had me thinking how fortunate we`ve been in that position in the 50 plus years I`ve been spectating..Andy Donnelly, Mike Mahoney, Kenny Allen, Ken Veysey, Neville Southall and Kevin Dearden spring to mind.

Mike mahoney was the first keeper I saw, very good too. John Turner also excellent and more recently Bobby O.

Blimey Wivel now you`re asking ! Adlington was 1962 -67 (Wiki). To recall/ have seen his predecessor you`d likely need to be born no later than say 1953 ish.... we`re looking for a pensioner, mentally intact, still a Gulls fan and who can use a keyboard. Anyone fit the bill.

Yes Launceston Gull I will rise to the challenge.

My first game 1954 George Webber in goal. Eric Webber No.5 Player Manager. I mention Eric only because I remember him well.

1956/62 Mervyn Gill. Good keeper.

Well Lan'ston - I'm a 'concessionary', occasionally mentally intact, still a gulls fan and can use a eykbrado. So I partially fit the bill. Like Portugull - gawd, I didn't realise he was THAT old - my first goalkeeper memories were George Webber, Bill Hayes and Eddie Marsh (another very good 'keeper). But the top goalkeeper of our 'Cow Shed' days was Peter Wakeham who went on to play for Sunderland I think (but I might not be mentally intact on that). ;-)
