Because you would expect a referee to be able to spot what was tantamount to an obvious dive. How can Hall be blamed? he didn't make a challenge as such.
Brunt didn't have the ball and wasn't anywhere near it. He's running in the direction of the touchline for feck sake when the decision is given. Look at the reaction of Hall afterwards - He doesn't think for a moment that he has committed a foul.
Brunt and the rest of the Bath players can hardly believe it when the penalty is given. Also look at the referee - he isn't certain either as he clearly hesitates. Useless prick.

Unfortunately you just can't see woking losing any games , nor us really. The game at there place we may have to win as they should have been thrashed here in second half but they got a point. Billericay was two points thrown away . We should have 4 more points those two one less.

Agreed, and my point was that I have seen penalties given for this before, call it 'wrong time, wrong place' but Asa still challenged regardless of Brunt running across him or not. At the end of the day we were not undone by the referee but by a crappy performance and lack of professionalism.PhilGull wrote: 22 Jan 2019, 11:50 So why blame the ref? If all the energy that went towards berating refs was directed at the cheating players we may actually be able to change things.

Ref view = split second with 1000 bath fans screaming AND as we all know he just gave us a Pen and for some reason they love to even it up!brucie wrote: 22 Jan 2019, 13:24 Because you would expect a referee to be able to spot what was tantamount to an obvious dive. Our view = watching a video time and time again.
Pissed off with the ref = fine, but to call him a prick for that??? I don't get it.... you prob lost money on the game
He didn't "give us" a penalty though did he?
He could hardly do anything else. Andrews has beaten man and is free in the six yard box. Their player sticks a leg out and brings him down. Stonewall penalty. Watch the ref he doesn't hesitate.
Bath Penalty - Brunt doesn't even have the ball, can't possibly get it. The only possible thing he can do is run across Hall and try and get a penalty.
Watch the ref for the second penalty - he hesitates. You can see he isn't sure, so under those circumstances he can't possibly give it. The refs actually two yards from it.
Big decision - he panicked and got it wrong = Useless prick.

Hesitation by the referee may actually have been consideration or allowing himself time to make a judgement on what he had seen - not things that seem to be part of your experience. The referee may have made an error as the decision was a subjective one and with hindsight he may have changed his mind if afforded the luxury of countless video reviews from numerous angles. However, in this league you don't get scores of Sky cameras and rolling V.A.R. close-ups with views expressed by pundits who have played international football: you just get a jaundiced armchair video 'expert' who seems to think that the sole raison d'etre of match officials is to ensure victory for Torquay Utd.

People forget refs are human too and don't have a replay luxury at this level. The game was ours to lose I think and the penalty was one of a number of factors.
I'm off to go look at the highlights.
