Ross Hannah
It's a long known fact that many semi pro footballers can/do earn as much if not more than any number of league 2 footballers with the wages they draw from there regular jobs cuopled with sometimes upto and above £300 a match for there club side.
But that is not the only consideration,Ross Hannah is going have to decide whether he wants to be a full time professional footballer or not,if his answer to that question is yes, then in all likey hood he will have to take a cut in wages to start with.
There are a number of league 2 club intrested, should he sign for Torquay,or another league 2 club it will be his route into professional football,if he was to continue playing and scoring at in league2 to the level he has achieved at Matlock, then a move to the championship would be in the offing, with the prestige and the £5 grand a week wages i think he would be foolish at 24 not to give the football league a go,whether it is with us,or not.

Thanks for your input 12345, it's clear that Ross Hannah is a cracking player at your level and it's inderstandable that as a fan you would be gutted to see him move on. I'm a little surprised that your Manager has said that he (Hannah) is still considering your contract offer though as it wasn't so long ago that the Non League Paper seemed to give the impression that Hannah was "desperate for a crack at the big time!". Perhaps he (Hannah) is just waiting to see what happens in the summer or perhaps he wants to ensure that he leaves on good terms with both the Manager and fans of Matlock Town and doesn't wish to disrespect them in any way?
I have to say that I would be very surprised if he stays with you next season, regardless of whether he signs for us or not, as the evidence would suggest (nearly 100 goals over the last two seasons isn't it?) that he is clearly considerably better than the level he is playing at, and I mean no disrespect by that but the facts speak for themselves don't they? To score that number of goals at what is a decent level would suggest to me that he should, at the very least, be capable of "making it" two or three levels up the pyramid.
Like you say, he probably earns a decent level combining playing on a part time basis and working as a landscape gardener and it may well be he may not earn any more (perhaps even less) by taking up the offer of a pro contract with us (or anyone else come to that) but at his age (25 now?) it really is now or never. As it is, it may well be that clubs have decided against taking a punt on him in the recent past simply becuase he isn't a raw 18/19 year old who still has plenty of time to progress - as being in his mid 20s he is probably near to reaching his peak.
As for TUFC, you will be hard pushed to find any fan of our little club who has the "big club" arrogance you see from other clubs as quite simply we aren't, never have been and never will be but that doesn't mean to say we can't progress up to the next level (and perhaps one day even to the one beyond - but probably not) . Indeed I can remember the first time I read the NLP when we were relegated to the BSP four years ago and finding it surreal when were described as "the former Football League giants" - that was certainly a new one on us, we're more used to being minnows believe me!
Actually, with that in mind, I think TUFC might be a perfect fit for Hannah as the step up might not be quite so much of a shock to him as say a move to someone like Bradford or even Grimsby might be. Hopefully (if he signs) he will end up having as good a relationship with our fans (like you we consider ourselves very much a family club) as he clearly does with yours and hopefully he will be just as much a local hero down here as he is with you. It's also a pretty nice place to live down here, as I'm sure it is up there, and perhaps that was one of the factors in his recent decision to turn down Barnet?
As others have said, I would be really excited at this signing if it comes true and it would start the summer break off in a really positive way if we were to beat off the competition and secure his signature.

I do think it s more him waiting to see what kind of offers come in for him as what Barnet offered weren t good personal terms which is why he rejected them but i agree it s a surprise for me as i thought he would have moved on by now and have had a side lined up but that doesn t seem to be the case for whatever reason and he seems to be considering Matlock again whether thats due to his success with the club or his feelings towards the clubs and the fans and at 24 maybe another season with Matlock if he couldn t find the right terms would not be such a bad thing in the grand scheme of things as he would still be young enough to have a crack at the big time but it all depends on what terms he has being offered as if it comes with a pay rise which i expect it will have done and he s making good money out of his job then it wouldn t be so difficult to understand why he would stay put.CP Gull wrote:Thanks for your input 12345, it's clear that Ross Hannah is a cracking player at your level and it's inderstandable that as a fan you would be gutted to see him move on. Either way who ever does sign him whether it be ourself s (Matlock), Torquay, Grimsby, Stockport, Port Vale, Bradford etc... will have a cracking player on there hands and a guy who will give 100% for the full 90 minutes and will never stop running from the 1st to the 90th and has a brilliant first touch which would have enabled him to score more if it wasn t for the poor lino s in non league who seem have a mental delay in picking up people s movements, my only criticism of Ross is that he isn t the biggest guy and defenders will try and kick him off the pitch but it s very rarely he has a quiet game as he s always a threat and with a player of height who can knock the ball down for him or hold the ball up for him so he can run on and he has quite a strike on him.

Number guy,
What I meant by the 'what else would he say' thing was this: with games remaining, it would be dressing room suicide for him to announce that he is leaving, or even wishes to leave. The only thing he can possibly say is that he is considering his options carefully and that he hasn't ruled out staying at MTFC. This way, if he does leave (and I'm afraid for your sake to say that I believe, strongly, that he will) he can't be accused of lying.
I see absolutely no reason why there would be animosity between the clubs or their supporters. I understand that you are getting sick of threads about him on your board and with hindsight, I realise that to have mentioned it on there was the wrong thing to do (not done it before or since, not sure why I changed my stance on that one occasion).
We have come across this attitude from Swindon before, the singing from us of Elliot Benyon was greated with a great deal of dirision from their end. A case of 'we are the mighty Swindon Town, we are all of 8 places higher than tiny Torquay, why are we signing some shit striker from L2'. This kind of thing really hacks me off, the only supporters I have ever really had a genuine dislike for are those of Northampton, and that was because of the big time Charlie attitude they persist with because they were in the top division, once, for one season, 60 years ago.
Anyway, hope he signs for us, you don't get that volume of goals without being something special and having seen a load of highlights from the Evostik league, it's hardly pub football either.
Interestingly number man, what has happened at Matlock just recently? You were doing so well and it all now appears to have gone Pete Tong.
Matt.

Matlock s season is over (as of Monday) with no more games to play and the news came out last night after the gaffer spoke to him after the final game and with him now being out of contract as well he could have just picked an option and gone (which is what the newspaper report implied he would do) but I strongly do believe that he is doing as he said and just taking time to look at his options and for whatever reason only known to himself and his agent is that he s see s Matlock as an option but i m pretty sure myself that he will move on although i said that last season.ferrarilover wrote:Number guy,

The reason Matlock s season went belly up in my opinion is due to a small squad and the amount of injuries we suffered which included Ross for a few games which is a shame as if everybody was fit then we may have being able to make a good crack of the league but it wasn t to be.
If you wish to keep up to date with the latest stuff on Hannah s possible move then follow me on twitter (@thematlockfan) as i v being keeping up to date with the story.

Nice one Jimbob, you'd better be funny/irreverent/interesting.
I didn't realise your season was done already, hence my comments. Makes it more likely to be true then, I guess. I still think we'll get him, but perhaps not so immediately as I imagined.

I honestly thought he would go last season and he didn t and i seem to remember similar comments being made but the fact the contract offer hasn t being rejected and he hasn t come out and said he wants to leave is great news but as i said to my father “We ve had players like Ross Hannah before and if he does decide to go then i have faith that he can be replacedâ€ÂÂ, plenty of good players in non league just got to be prepared to put the effort in to scout them.

Making an awful lot of noise about Bradford City on Twitter. Someone get him a DVD of our match up there so he can weigh up his options. Ross, if you're reading this, I'll save you the bother of actually watching the match, we won 3-0 and Bradford, for whatever reason, are genuinely a terrible, woeful, abject side and have been for a while now.
Come to us mate, you stand a chance of actually winning something.

He can't sign a full contract with a league club until the transfer window re-opens, which is, I believe, July the 1st.with him now being out of contract as well he could have just picked an option and gone

He can sign a pre-contract as with any player, the signing would not then go through until 1st July, but it means the player is locked into a contract to say they'll sign a contract. You don't hear of it much in the lower leagues as players like Ross could quite easily have some lower end L1 club make an offer and off he goes.

Is the Evo above or below the waterline for the transfer window though Budleigh??budleigh wrote: He can't sign a full contract with a league club until the transfer window re-opens, which is, I believe, July the 1st.
Answered my own question here...."Clubs in the English non-league pyramid below the Blue Square Premier are not bound by the transfer window system".
But league clubs are, irrespective of where the player is coming from...Clubs in the English non-league pyramid below the Blue Square Premier are not bound by the transfer window system

From my dealings on Football Manager, if the buying club are a League team, they must adhere to the transfer windows. If the buying club are non-league and buying from a league club, they can buy at any time.

Are you 100% sure on that? (FA and FL regs are pretty vague and open to interpretation).budleigh wrote: But league clubs are, irrespective of where the player is coming from...
I only ask cos something sticks in my mind about below tier 5 (and "free agents" as long as not under contract by close of window) being able to sign contracts at any time. I seem to remember something last season about a L1/L2 club signing someone from non league outside the window?
