Best Away Day 2010/2011

Post by NewtonGull »

Yes we all know Rotherham on saturday is sure to be a great day, as would be the play off.
but what has been your most memorable away day this season?

Was it because of the result? The performanmce? The atomosphere?

My best away day this season has to be Wycombe. Atomsphere was tremendous as was the perfomance. I dont think we took many fans (it was a Tuesday night) but the atomosphere great. On the feild we ripped them apart. By far the best performance from a Torquay United team in many years.

Give us your thoughts

Wycombes up there. I enjoyed Bury away. Got completely out played first half and somehow managed to keep the score down to 1-0. And Second Half we turned the tables and were quality and got the win (Bury fans have been saying were one of the best teams to come to Gigg Lane this season)

And Barnet because I got there early and was on the beer all day which is always enjoyable :)

Cheltenham was pretty special, Shrewsbury was good too. Wycombe and Northampton were also memorable. Good turnouts at Oxford, Gillingham, Aldershot and Stevenage as well as Burton and Barnet but the winner has to be Cheltenham for me. We made that place rock.

Our outings early in the season were terrific...the atmosphere generated against Port Vale, Wycombe, Port Vale, Crewe and Stevenage was superb.

But for the sheer gutsy performance and incredible team spirit, it has to be Oxford for me. Playing most of the game with 10 men, we worked so, so hard. When Kee's shot hit the net (after he had squandered a couple of chance earlier), it sparked absolute jubilation amongst the travelling gulls.

Stand-out performances also include Wycombe, Bradford and Port Vale.

For me it has to be Barnet I think.

We created a great atmosphere at Stevenage but the game was so abysmal I've tried to erase it from memory. Mansfield in the FA Cup was an unexpectedly good away day considering there weren't that many of us. Burton last week was great but felt rather deflated after the performance and result. So it has to be Barnet for me - terrific atmosphere, loads of us there, and we gave them an absolute thrashing as well.

I forgot about the Oxford game, I wasn't allowed to take the drum in because the Chairman was on holiday (Loyal Supporter).

Burton was ok, Barnet was so so but was good to have a days worth of drinking with Alex, Wycombe was good, especially as we thought it was going to be Benyon's last game, Cheltenham was fun, Shrews was a laugh, Gillingham was cr@p and the worse trip this year, Northampton would have been better if they didn't score their last goal, Aldershot (which is normally my favourite) was slightly lacking this year compared to last year but to have a favourite I think it might be Wycombe.

i've been to a lot of away games this year, and as i've mentioned many times before, the away support is always special, and regardless of result, often makes the trips worthwhile.

i agree with some of you, and the atmosphere at cheltenham was excellent, but the end result spoilt an otherwise enjoyable night, as was the Burton game last week, in the sun, few pre-match beers, good numbers, and had i been a neutral in the pirelli, that would probably have shaded it, but again, the performance/result spoilt it a tad.

so for me, having considered the whole away day package (travel, pre-match, performance, result and atmosphere), i have a tie for first place...............

Oxford - down to ten men early in the game, incredible performance, supporters were the 11th AND 12th man that night, and a great result.

&

Wycombe - 1-0 down, close to going further behind, yet turned on the style, won 3-1 and could've been many more. smaller following that night, home support very quiet (i even shouted out at wycombe 'keeper about it being quiet - and he agreed !!), but we kept it up for 90mins, and was a great night. coming out, the wycombe fans were saying to me that we were the best side they'd seen there this season.

and the worst ??? for me, Swindon, by a mile. not because of our contribution, but the most anal and pathetic stewarding i've come across in years.

Jeez, how many times have we played at Vale Park this season?

For performance, result & all round brilliant evening has to be Wycombe away, after Beavon's goal It was the usual "here we go" feeling but of course that had changed come 90mins.

As much as I hated the Swindon game / stewards, the worst day out has to be Gillingham.
Cr@p stand, cr@p game (apart from the last 30 seconds when we scored), cr@p weather and hopefully we won't meet them in the play off final.

I only managed to get to 2 away games this season, both on a tuesday night and both were great nights. Wycombe was a great result and the 200 or so fans we took didn't stop singing all night and it was bloody freezing. And the second game I attended was Cheltenham which as all the fans who attended will agree was a fantastic atmosphere despite the end result.

So can I choose which one was the best away day? Well no I can't actually as they were both great. I just hope I can make it to more next season! Work permitting of course.

I've only been to three but Cheltenham was the best of those.

Hereford was shocking, my little girl screaming "Come on Steve!" kept me amused. Still no clue who Steve is but I think she misheard Zebs. Or she made it up. Either way at least she gave it a go.

A few contenders..

Shrewsbury - performance was absolutely fantastic. Best I've seen in a long time.
Burton - Great turnout and great game, to be fair.
Cheltenham - Best atmosphere I've been in for a while.
Vale - Just because it was so unexpected!

Out of those four, Shrewsbury, for the performance and Cheltenham for the atmosphere.
