THE WALK FOR CAROL - SUNDAY 10 JULY
Carol Ann Roach was a beautiful, kind, loving, caring, generous person who always put others before herself. Nine and a half years ago she learned she had breast cancer and battled so hard and bravely to beat it. During her illness she underwent five operations, had chemotherapy three times and radiotherapy once. So often in constant pain she made it so easy for others to be around her and everyone who were lucky enough to know Carol, just loved her so very much. She loved going out for weekend walks with her husband Dave, it could be a coast path walk, one out in the country or even a walk along a disused railway line. During the second week of October 2010, Carol and Dave enjoyed a wonderful week of walking and visiting so many interesting places. It was shortly after this that Carol started to become very ill and yet she continued to fight and do all in her power to win her battle against the cancer. Carol and Dave would talk about their comeback walk they would do once Carol was well enough to do it. On the 11th October 2010 a day Carol was racked in pain but not prepared to let the cancer stop her from doing what she loved doing; she walked the disused railway line between Torrington and Bideford with her husband Dave by her side. The comeback walk was going to be part two of the railway walk from Bideford Station to Fremington Quay. Sadly Carol lost her brave fight on the 8th April 2011. Carol s husband Dave, Carol s sons and all her family will be doing the planned comeback walk in honour of the very beautiful Carol. They want to raise as much money as possible in her name for breast cancer research so that hopefully one day this killer disease will be a thing of the past. Also doing the walk will be friends and work colleagues of Carol and TFF members. We the family of Carol invite everyone who would like to join us on The Walk For Carol. Full details of the walk itself and the part you can play to help raise money for such good a cause can be found on the following pages. Many thanks in advance to everyone who will be doing the walk or just helping by way of sponsorship to raise a good sum of money.
Dave Roach.
The meeting place for The Walk For Carol will be the RIVERSIDE (see map) long stay car park at Bideford, at 10.30am, (cost is just £3 per a day) please remember everyone is welcome to join us on the walk. We hope to set off from the car park at 10.45am and will walk along the Bideford quay then over the old Bideford bridge and then to Bideford old station. We will then start the walk in earnest from the station at 11am. The walk is approximately six and a half miles in length; the pathway is tarmac the whole way and completely flat and children are more than welcome to bring and ride their bicycles on the walk. Four hours in total has been allowed to complete the walk and arrangements have been made with the owner of the Fremington Quay Café (in the old station building) to provide cream teas, refreshments and other food to all those who want it. Cream teas will cost just £3.95 each, please could you let Louise or Dave know if you would like to order a cream tea so we can give the café owner some figures to work with. Other food will be available on the day at the café and if you don t fancy a cream tea, you can order something else on the day. Please check out the cafes website and menu on their website at http://www.fremingtonquay.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There is a .06 mile flat walk from the quay to the main road where a bus can be boarded to take everyone back to Bideford. A full bus timetable has been included and thankfully the route has a very regular service so you won t have to long a wait to catch a bus.
Carols grandchildren will be letting balloons fly into the air along the walk and everyone is welcome to do the same if they wish. Carol will be with us all in spirit each and every step we take on The Walk For Carol and the speed she was able to walk, don t bet against her getting to Fremington Quay in first place.
Please contact Louise Shaw on the following telephone number 077899 02182 or email her at [email protected] to let her know if you will be joining us on The Walk For Carol, or email Dave at [email protected] & we will organise an Infomation Pack & Sponsorship form to be sent to you.
If you are doing the walk then please just use the sponsorship form for yourself, if you are not doing the walk you can use the form to sponsor Dave himself. All money raised on the sponsorship forms will be going to the BREAKTHROUGH BREAST CANCER RESEARCH CHARITY. (http://breakthrough.org.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) alternatively you can make a donation to the CHARITY on our just giving web page at http://www.justgiving.com/walkforcarol" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
All money collected via the sponsorship form can be paid directly to Dave Roach or Louise Shaw, cheques should be payable to Louise Shaw please. (See Sponsor Sheet for Louise s address.
It is very important that you bring your sponsorship form with you please as Louise will take them from you at the start of the walk and log all the details. Louise will then hand back to you the form at the end of the walk so you will be able to collect in all the sponsorship money.
Carol will live in our hearts for ever and will give us all the strength we need to do The Walk For Carol

Hi Guys.
I was asked and thought it a good idea anyway to tell you all about a sponsored walk I am doing on The Tarka Trail on July 10th in aid of Cancer research.
My walk will start at Barnstaple and go to Bideford and then return to Fremington. The distance is just over 15.5 miles which will be a fair old target for me after two or 3 years of bad health.
i have been touched recently by so many friends passing on and what with the members of Both Torquay United and Exeter being likewise touched I feel it is right that I should have a real go and do this now. (It falls just nicely for me as I am on holiday then in that area)
It has been mentioned in this forum before but didn't seem to get much attention which is probably due to our involvement in the playoffs then.
All money raised can be gift aided and this will in turn raise even more money for a very worthy cause.
You can find out more details about the walk which will hopefully also involve a couple of Torquay Players as well.
The main body of walkers are doing Bideford to Fremington which is 6.5 miles.
I am doing 15.
The web site details are
http://www.justgiving.com/walkforcarol" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Breakthrough breast cancer research charity will benifit from the money raised
I ask anyone and everyone who would like to sponsor either me myself and I or anyone one they know who is doing the walk to put their hands in their pockets and pledge what you can to help us raise as much money as is possible.
I am also going to contact as many other supporters of Clubs in the area as I can and hope you will all support us or me in this venture.
You can contact me on 07890 891 345 or 01454 32 21 21 If you wish to sponsor me or if you wish to take part in the walk please contact louise Shaw at [email protected] or ring louise on 07789902182 who will then arrange for a sponsors pack to be sent out to you. All detail can be found onthe thread http://www.torquayfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1541" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or http://torquayfansforum.com/index.cgi?b ... hread=8177" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Please support Daves venture. It is worth it. You never know. One of you may benefit from the results one day
Thankyou for reading this and I hope this raises a lot of money
