I agree with this part. Personally I'd prefer neither, but both are in the same dingy.

However, I don't think we should underestimate the experience Buckle gained up the road when he acted as assistant under a very talented manager in Tisdale. Buckle may have been a newbie in terms of management when appointed Gulls boss, but he did serve his apprenticeship as a No.2, albeit briefly, which helped aid his development as a coach. Hill or Hargreaves haven't yet enjoyed that luxury, nor shown a great willingness to go into management, and so would be going into the job a lot blinder than Buckle did.

In my opinion he didn't serve his apprenticeship at all, he spent a season as understudy to a man who spent more time with Perryman than with him.

I'm not buying into this nonsense that Buckle was experienced when he got here, he plainly wasn't.

As for Hargreaves not showing a willingness to go into management, I believe he's been away getting his badges.

'Experienced' is obviously a loose term. Of course Buckle had no experience as a manager when he came here, but he did gain experience as part of the coaching staff at Exeter. To be honest, I have no idea how much he was involved in first-team affairs, but I doubt he would have been upgraded to assistant if Tisdale didn't want him around or value his work.

I wasn't aware that Hargreaves was away getting his badges. That would be a step in the right direction for him. I know he's been busy recently opening up his shop so had assumed that he saw his immediate future away from football.

Not sure on Harvey either, though if that's the sort of manager we're looking at, what about Steve Fallon, once of Histon? Did very well on a small budget and came close to beating us, especially at their place with his hands very much being tied in terms of having to sell players. He couldn't really help the demise in the end, as it was pretty much inevitable that they were going down.

Someone very successfull in the lower leagues would get my vote!

What makes a good manager is determination, ambition, leadership, tactical knowledge and the ability to make a tough decision when he needs to. I don't care whether someone hasn't had much/any experience, as long as they have the core ingredients needed to become a manager.

However, I think we have a much more serious problem in the long run. If we continue this penny pinching, unless we happen to pick another diamond in the rough like Buckle, we could be looking at being bottom of the league this time next year. Hopefully, we'll have a league between us and the conference though!

This, combined with a lack of spending and ambition that seems to be neither here nor there being shown by the board, could see us being left up a creek without a paddle. I'm generally quite the optimist, like to look at the positives of most things but I find it incredibly hard when time and time again, the club prove themselves to be completely inept at the most basic of tasks. It's only a matter of time before the placards, pitch forks and burning torches come out for this board. Most other club's fans would have been long fed up with the cr*p that we have to put up with.

Whatever happened to the professional way of running our club ?

It ended when a football man left and a wanker came in.

This whole sorry saga of events before our play off games needs to faced. To be precise, we the supporters need to put our faces direct into the faces of those who have mismanaged recent events. I'm not saying drop the nut on anyone, but if that's how it's interpreted then there are consequences, both for doing something and doing nothing.

Which wanker thought it a good idea to tell Paul Buckle during a match that a player wasn't correctly registered to play ?

You've got to spend money to make money.

While excessive and reckless spending is the obvious reason why a business can go bust, just as many businesses fall by the wayside due to excessive penny pinching.

Ultimately, I feel not enough has been done to address the revenue side of the income statement, rather cutting costs is viewed as the only solution. I don't think anything meaningful has been done to increase turnover, bar one or two half hearted, poorly executed measures, other than pray for cup runs every year. Pure cost cutting is not necessarily a less risky position for the long term future of the club.

If we do lose Zebroski and O'kane in the summer and we don't get what we should for them, penny pinching will be harder for people to stomach - as the board haven't taken all the measures necessary in order to prevent it becoming a necessity. It's our boards fault and no one else's if players aren't sold for what they're worth.

If returning league football to the bay, playing good quality attacking football and making the play off finals is not enough to spark interest to drive the revenue side of the business then I'm not sure there is much point in throwing more money at it.
We now have youth and reserve sides and this where the money is being spent for the long term future of the club.

Stockport are a good example of the alternative option.
