Is Wotton the person for the job.
This is not a dig. It's just a thought. But is Paul Wotton the person to take Torquay United forward? Play and results seem to be mirroring GJ. Torquay are there or there abouts, but we are not winning. If not careful, Torquay might slide down the table.
Comments and thoughts would be interesting.

Sorry, but in my view 'a silly thought of yours'.
Just remember where we were in June and what could have been. This squad was built from scratch, quickly assembled and Paul would be the first to admit it's not perfect, yet! Building a squad, playing systems and gaining an understanding takes time. We are 4th in the league, 4 points for top and still building. Yes, we may slide down the table, we may also reach the top.
I will take this over what could have been. I will support the directors, the manager, the players and the club we love. I am sure incoming players will arrive, its still work in progress. However, not this weekend for a FA Trophy game.
Keep believing, COYY

Yes he is. He has a free hit at it this season I think. Football is a strange profession for firing people without giving them a fair crack.
If we are mid-table or worse still in this poxy league this time next year then your question would be worthy of more consideration.

Seems a fair summary.

Appreciate you have made a post to generate some discussion, but this early into Wotton's reign I don't see how this discussion is helpful. 4/5 months with a brand new bunch of players is far too early to give anyone a fair judgement.
Going forward we are currently lacking, but that may come with more time. We have players like Hasani, Mussa and Young that have not yet clicked.
What he has done is made us much better defensively. Current form would have us conceding around 40 goals this season, compared to 70+ last season.
We are also harder to beat with only one team losing less games this year so far. Unbeaten at home, though too many draws, however some of those should have been wins. In a different universe the pen gets given v St Albans, and the dubious offsides v Chelmsford and Tonbridge aren't flagged and we have 3 more wins and 6 more points.
What I see so far is progress on last season and a team still finding its feet.

New squad, effectively a new club, new ideas, may not be to everyone's taste but I will take what we have over what might have been, we still have the warnock factor which cannot be underestimated and I would love to see him in the changing room telling several of the under performers the facts of life and their potential lack of future in the game in a way only warnock could do, without undermining the manager/ player relationship.
Give Wotton the season, he deserves that and probably more.

After what he did at Truro he’ll get time as he should & i like his honesty in interrviews. Think he’ll do well here with a tweak in tactics.
As watching us play Tonbridge though it was painful, playing around at the back with no purpose. Attendances & points will drop if we persist with that tactic.
If we don't even make play offs then that would be a disaster. He’ll be judged end of the season, but honestly right now im worried we will draw far too many games with current system. Time will tell

Really! A few on here (not many I might add) seem to have very short memories as to where the club was at only a few short months ago. I'm sure that the majority of us are just grateful to still be in existence let alone worrying about finishing in play-off spot. New owners, new manager, new team, new tactics... let's give them all a chance to get things right ... which I definitely think they will, maybe not this season (although that would be a bonus) but with a bit of consolidation and the continued backing of the fans, Torquay could well once again be facing the might of Braintree, Tamworth et al in the league above.

Yes really. Im very grateful of course that we still have a club. But we are a full time team in a mostly part time league with a decent budget & fantastic crowds.
Just because we got saved doesn't mean we should accept less than what we can achieve. With that mentality we’ll be stuck in this league for a long time

Laughable.
It took Wotton 5 years to get everything right at Truro, 5 years to build a side that comprehensively played us off the park at Plainmoor last season, and some people are questioning him after 3 months. Patience seems to now be a thing of the past.
He assembled a squad at very short notice, with some players he knows and some he gambled on, and with what was available in that time. Some will work out and some won’t, it takes time to get everyone understanding what he wants, playing how he wants, and some won’t have the temperament or just won’t be able to do it. He said himself that he doesn’t want to be shouting instructions from the sidelines.
This season and even next should be seen as ones of building, where a mid table finish or above this season should be more than acceptable and a sustained promotion push next season maybe expected.
Has the football been great, mostly no. Will attendances drop, probably yes. When everything is in place, you would expect both to improve again. But it will take time.
People saying promotion should be an aim this season, well it would be great, however we’d most likely struggle/be relegated next season. Better to spend time getting everything in place. People expecting promotion this season, expecting us to dominate teams playing free flowing attacking football, deluded.

Nobody is taking anything for granted but promotion is rightfully the aim as stipulated by the consortium leadership on several occasions. To aim for settling in at this level for a few seasons is deluded.
